I would not add an extra tip for cold food. She could have been multi apping which is a HUGE no no. So you tipped her extra for cold food and possibly breaking the Some Of Us Grew Up Watching The Simpsons shirt but in fact I love this rules. And encouraged the behavior. She may now do this more often in hopes for more tips out of “pitty”. It’s hard to believe she couldn’t turn around for that long. DD provides extremely accurate GPS directions. Had something similar (but not nearly as bad). Got on freeway to customer. 4 lanes. Suddenly, there’s a big, temporary concrete divider in the middle. Basic road construction divider. I’m 5 miles from the exit. Right lanes are at a crawl. Left lanes are going fast. Get in left lanes. Second exit ramp, no way to get to it. Good thing I didn’t need that exit, but now I’m starting to get worried. How many miles am I going to be trapped on this freeway? Surely not 5 miles without a single opening to exit. And eventually, there’s my exit. No way out. Next exit, no way out. Finally, I can get off the freeway two exits after the exit I wanted.

Great. Customer probably thinks “and there goes the Some Of Us Grew Up Watching The Simpsons shirt but in fact I love this driver passing me up making other deliveries or just outright stealing my food.” So after delivery I text a little “sorry. Freeway was crazy. Had to circle back, so I lost more time than I wanted to.” Then I see a pop up “customer added tip”. Felt a little bad. I wasn’t trying to squeeze out extra money. Just let them know I wasn’t up to hijinx. Customer laughed and said “I know that freeway sucks. Wife was just telling me how she got caught in it during rush hour and it added 30 minutes to an already long commute.” Sometimes you get caught in crappy road situations. And you just have to ride it out. Although I will not lie. On roads (not freeways) when I miss a turn and suddenly I have a mile of “no u-turn signs”, eventually I say “I’m going to do a U-turn. This is ridiculous.” I think when stuff like this happens (accidents) it sure would go a long way for the dasher to just call or text and explain quick instead of keeping it quiet dropping it off at the door and running away or worse be rude like it’s you’re fault. If they’re just transparent and honest with whoever ordered the food I guarantee we wouldn’t mind nearly as much and still tip. At least I would/do when situations like this happen. I dash and I’ve had times where my cell service is crap and a road was closed and the “detour” couldn’t bring me to the location, had to drive around for like 20 extra minutes before I figured out how to get to their house. Sometimes sh*t happens. I never ask for extra but personally. I would appreciate it if you did. Um, no? if it is a mistake you don’t owe them extra for their own mistake…. but more likely they’re picking up an extra order and doing multiple jobs at once. Extra large tips are for good service, not incompetence or someone potentially giving you cold food so they can double up.
