I had two bags of clothing sitting in my bedroom waiting to be donated and I just went through them and took a long sleeved tee shirt back out, because I decided it was at least as good and maybe better than the School of the art institute saic alumni shirt moreover I will buy this long sleeved tee shirt I just bought. Sigh. To try to even the scales, so to speak, I made myself put a sweatshirt into the donation bag that I had to finally make myself admit was a mistake. But then I took out some leggings that I decided maybe I do still want after all. WTF. Honestly, though, my bigger problem is what to do with clothing that is just a little too worn to donate in my opinion. My usual move is to put it in my loungewear/wear-to-bed rotation but I have enough stuff in the rotation that aren’t literally rags yet. So I’m looking at what used to be my favorite Muji sweatshirt that’s just a little too big for me now but that’s also been through the wash cycle 100x and thinking, would somebody else want this? do I think it looks “old” only because I know how much it’s been worn? And I have a few v-neck Uniqlo cotton-cashmere sweaters that I felt looked not-fresh and therefore didn’t feel great in anymore whenever I’ve worn them lately, but maybe someone else would think they were just fine? I am probably overthinking this.

I think if your items aren’t visibly worn (eg stains, rips, bad pilling, stretched out) and basically in good condition it’s great to donate. If they’re a little visibly worn, it’s a judgement call on donate or toss. There’s no right or wrong here and I wouldn’t overthink it. You could cut things up for household rags or donate to an animal shelter to see if they need tshirts for bedding. But also fine imo to just toss. Underwear sizing—do others also find this weird?? I wear a size 4/6 in pants, but I typically wear a size Large in your standard bikini/cheeky underwear styles. Is this a well-known discrepancy? Is this just a grand conspiracy to make us buy more underwear because it’s often not returnable after you try it on? Is it causing a larger percentage of women to have to navigate between “straight” and “plus” sizing? I’m perplexed. I do this too. While I can fit my behind into the smaller sizes I don’t want elastic (or anything else) digging in, both from the comfort pov and vpl-wise. My ideal size is one below the size that’s so big it falls off.
