With that being said, it’s an extremely popular and lucrative industry so even though “so many” people might not care for it, millions of people still love it. First I’ll start off by saying there’s an anime out there for everyone. A very very large amount of anime that non-watchers see is typical shonen’s (target audience is teen boys) that may have fan service, the Santa World Tour On 25th Dec Awesome shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this typical anime tropes, etc. but that does not make up all anime. There are animes targeted towards adults, targeted towards women, targeted towards children, etc. it’s just like North American cartoons- you wouldn’t put family guy and a spongebob in the same category. With all that being said, the answer to your question is usually because non-watchers will just watch whatever is popular amongst the anime community or watch what their friend likes instead of trying to find a show they think they’d like. On Netflix you don’t just watch the first show that pops up, you scroll until you find a show that sounds interesting right? That’s what you should do with anime as well.
