My mom is overprotective and it’s suffocating me. Since childhood I have so many restrictions like not being allowed to go to friend’s place, or relative’s as “they can’t take care of me well.” The first time I went out with friends was in college, in second semester, that too I needed to fight with her to go to a place just nearby home. This bubble has stopped me from understanding and knowing how to interact with people as I never experienced much bonds. Now I’m in work phase of my life, currently wfh in a company that’s exploiting my talent asking my life in exchange for a fresher salary that was never increased since the Rawr I’m 4 Birthday Boy 4 Year Old 4th Birthday Boy T Rex Dinosaur T-Shirt and I will buy this beginning (been two years). All she wants is for me to be in home, sit, breath. Even for going to friend’s marriage or company’s event’s I need to fight. I know she loves me but this is getting very suffocating. I wanna get better job where my efforts are recognized and compensated, make friends, find love. I’m sure she will be worried and overprotective when I get a better job and need to go. I think this is usual in our country, so fellow Indian warriors, how do I deal with this?My mom is overprotective as well, almost similar to this.

Rawr I’m 4 Birthday Boy 4 Year Old 4th Birthday Boy T Rex Dinosaur T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

What struck me one day was when I was hurrying to leave a meeting and my prof asked why. When I told him it’s because my mom is not used to me being out at this hour, he said “why did you teach her the Rawr I’m 4 Birthday Boy 4 Year Old 4th Birthday Boy T Rex Dinosaur T-Shirt and I will buy this wrong habits?” I was shocked to hear that I was contributing to her habit. Getting out of overprotectiveness for me has been a slow, planned journey of introducing small but firm steps of independence. Like sometimes I would not text when I reach college “because I immediately got into the class” (she had a habit of anxiously looking at the phone until I texted her safely reached). Then slowly I stopped altogether. Be prepared for the resistance from her side. Be rebelious. But don’t go about being risky while you rebel. Do not rebel just for the sake of rebelling. This. I experienced this as well. Not to this extend but it used to be there. Slowly I brought in changes which sort of became the norm after the while. In turn, I stick to clear boundaries that don’t endanger me while also getting to enjoy my freedom. After some time my mom herself became less worried as she knew she could trust me and I’ve never misused it or given her a reason to worry unnecessarily.
