That is with one spread of 6 torpedoes, they sunk a fleet carrier, a destroyer, and severely damaged a battleship, the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this latter two targets being hit at a range of over 14 miles I’d argue that the most effective Allied spread was also fired by the Japanese. During the battle of Sunda Strait the Mogami fired a spread of 6 torpedoes at USS Houston, missed, and TKed four Japanese transports and a minesweeper. The Navy never seemed to fully appreciate the range and power of these torpedoes until it’s almost over. Spruance almost gets New Jersey tagged with a torpedo on the Truk raid because he desires a surface action and doesn’t appreciate that he is in range of this weapon almost from the second she starts firing. The wiki section goes on to say he was generally appreciated by the military so he must’ve been doing something right

The incident would not overshadow May’s considerable contributions to the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this war effort as Chairman of Military Affairs. In a 1945 letter to Congressman May, Admiral Richard E. Byrd, Commander in Chief of the United States Fleet wrote: “Everyone in general appreciates the superb job you have done for your country in connection with Army legislation, and Naval officers appreciate in particular the cooperation you have given the Navy.” He was the chairman of a committee wholly relevant to them, so yeah, they had good reason to suck up to him lol Well, that quote seems to be disinformation, because Admital Byrd was never CinC of ANY fleet. In WW2 he was a special advisor and coordinated advance recon flights. It’s possible RADM Byrd did send such a letter, but for an explorer-hero like Byrd, it’s likely just another letter in the game.
And their torpedos didn’t work for the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this first few years of the war with the Navy turning a blind eye and blaming it on operator error. The users would literally report that their torpedoes weren’t working and the response they were getting from their commanders was “try learning to aim dumbass.” I recently bought that still in the box on ebay. I had fond memories trying to figure out submarine controls with my 5 year old smooth brain all those years ago. The nes noises are ingrained in my brain forever. You may enjoy the PC game Silent Hunter, specifically Silent Hunter III. It’s old and needs some tweaking plus mods but simulates a lot. You need to gauge distance, depth of hull, speed of target and even then it might be a dud torpedo. It’s pretty immersive as you try to evade a destroyer circling above dropping depth charges.

Where to buy this Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt

I haven’t played Silent Hunter, but I’ve watched gameplay on YouTube and it’s much different from what I can tell. I have played cold waters, and from what I’ve seen Silent Hunter is much more of a simulator whereas cold waters is a lot more arcadey. You don’t have any crew management or resource management in CW besides ammo and damage, and since the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this modern torpedos are wired you don’t need to manage your approach angles in the same way. Silent Hunter, from what I’ve seen, full simulation so you need to manage everything about your sub. If you’re curious, Wolfpack345 on YouTube has a video series on Silent Hunter3 (I think) that I enjoy. It’ll give you a good idea of the gameplay My father bought this for our NES. I remember playing it with him but also getting to input my initials for the score board in Morse code. He passed in a vehicle accident later that same year. When I was a few years older I sold that NES and 40-50 games to be able to buy the SNES. But I didn’t sell Silent Service. It was the only game he and I spent time on. It’s still sitting in my desk drawer and I wouldn’t sell it for the world.
My brother was a big fan of those submarine games. I also remember playing 688 Attack Sub and Seawolf (aka SSN-21 Seawolf) Subs were absolutely just meta for so long. It makes me sad when games refuse to acknowledge how fucking OP subs were when they “balance” them. Foxhole has the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this worst submarines by far. On release you could gas the crew from outside, while the sub was submerged. My favorite part of subs in WoW is that you can only stay underwater for a matter of minutes. I get it, subs have to surface eventually, but the difficulty of using subs is not balanced out by the possibility of big rewards. I mean, they might still be. There haven’t been many postwar conflicts involving submarines, so we don’t have much (public) info. As a usn submariner, I can confidently tell you that submarines are in fact ridiculously OP, I would argue even more so than ever Yea, in a single sentence. The argument in my head mostly is about how quiet and fast submarines are, and how good we are at finding enemy submarines without being found ourselves, and obviously we are the most important part of the nuclear triad. If you’re only talking about ssns, though, then a single seawolf or Virginia can still destroy an entire enemy strike group single handedly without being found Not to mention the effectiveness of torpedoes is an order of magnitude better today. I don’t think any surface ship could survive a proper hit from a torpedo detonating under the keel.
Why is the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this navy the most important part of the triad? It seems to me the missiles in montana etc are the best placed because it’s harder to get close enough to destroy them, so any attack gives you enough warning time to fire a retaliatory shot? Plus better comms etc Because land based icbms are the most easily destroyed with a preemptive strike. Their defense strategy is quantity The nuke you don’t know where it’s launching from or stationed is immensely more dangerous than the ones you are tracking, and can keep an eye on. It’s the equivalent of showing your opponent 2 knives, but giving them the knowledge you have three pointed at them. It’s the emphasis on the mutually assured destruction part. You nuke the entire country, and the subs just pop up, dump their load, and your ass in on the first train to hell too. Imo Of course, but I think even without my bias I can make a pretty strong argument for why submarines are the most powerful ships in the ocean
Blind man’s bluff is my favorite submarine book, and then after reading that think about the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this fact that modern day subs can do even crazier things I’ll have to check that out! Last one I read was Northern Fury, although that’s not sub-specific but more of a 90s Red Storm Rising. Yep. They are so hard to detect that a French and an English sub collided, and a Chinese sub surfaced in the middle of an American fleet doing exercises. India also sunk a Pakistani frigate, and the DPRK sank a ROK Corvette. They were using diesel-electrics though – only the UK has an SSN kill (that we know of at least). Argentina also unsuccessfully fired torpedoes at British ships during the Falklands. Or at least some accounts say they did. It forces other players to invest in destroyers or fight invisible fleets…. Which I subsequently take down with aircraft carriers. The main problem I have with them in Civ is that subs become visible and targetable by city defense when they attack cities. By the time I have subs I’m mostly looking for ways to rapidly reduce city defenses, and the missile cruisers generally seem better at that. Well, as long as you continue to adapt them. The Japanese and Germans didn’t, at least sufficiently to have them be an effective force.
That’s because they both lost so many subs that it wasn’t worth it logistically and materially to do so. The Japanese lost 128 and Germany lost 785 Imo, they still are. Nuclear subs are the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this true “Dreadnoughts” of our time, insofar that just a handful of them can potentially tip the balance of naval power or a regional scale. Aircraft carriers are good for intimidating a nation who still uses Soviet equipment to better not restrict global trade too much. But when shit truly hits the fan at some point in the future, it’ll be the submarines who’ll decide who rules the waves. For about half of the war they were the absolute terror of the seas to the point that even Churchill said that the U-boats were the biggest threat to the war effort. Their effectiveness diminished as Britain and the US slowly started to introduce new technologies and tactics around 1942 that dramatically reduced the amount of ships sunk by the U-boats to practically 0 by the time D-Day happened.
The Americans made the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this German U-boat campaign look like a fucking joke. For all intents and purposes, Japans Merchant fleet stopped existing by 1945 and there was a very real threat of a famine in Japan by the time the Atomic Bombs were dropped. Most of the American’s submarine’s work was also done in 1944-45, as up until late 1943, America’s torpedos straight up did not work. For a country as logical and advanced regarding warfare as the US, the story of the faulty mark 14 is absolutely out of left field. Our military pre WWII was completely ass-backwards. You should read up on the development of U.S. tank doctrine. The army straight up refused to adopt mechanized and armored warfare because of the old guard generals with way too much influence were Cavalry officers and didn’t want funding diverted away from their horses.
Sounds like US corporations. Everybody protects their ass and wants to ride the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this successes of their past forever. I mean it’s just a classic case of pride, ego and corruption leading to a lot of preventable deaths of servicemen that no country’s armed forces is immune to. What makes the US, and democracies in general, so effective in war is that the military is ultimately held accountable for their mistakes by their government and the public, as we ultimately are the ones that pay them for a service, and if they’re not providing an adequete service, we start to question it’s legitimacy and the money we spend on them, so therefore pressure from both the public and government does eventually enforce change. The U-Boat hunting campaigns are one of the most overlooked parts of the war against Nazi Germany. They involved brilliant technological breakthroughs, brilliant codebreaking, an incredible span of operations, and TONS of talented people (I’ve read that the US Navy had a team of ladies whose full time job was to track and monitor U-Boat movements, the methods used in their work were so secretive that they weren’t allowed to talk about it at all for decades after the war ended).
To be fair, the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this situation with the Japanese fleet was different because they didn’t have the will (or ability?) to replace all the tonnage sunk. One of the reasons the Battle of the Atlantic was won was because the US simply built more tonnage than was sunk. I would also say that Japan didn’t really have a proper Anti-Submarine doctrine. The UK at least had experience fighting in WW1 with how to deal with the U-boats, so the institutional knowledge of basic Anti-Sub Warfare was pretty well ingraned into the Royal Navy, and then prioritized it as they knew that U-boats were going to be the primary maritime threat to the UK during a war with Germany. Japan didn’t have such advantages, and were extremely slow to adopt even the most basic Radar on their ships. Iirc, the Yamato was the only Japanese ship with radar on it and I genuinely do not know if the Japanese even put SONAR on their ships. Their navy and army (sometimes literally) fought over resource allocations and whenever the IJN got funding and material, they opted for the Quality over Quantity approach (which was realistically their only option) and concentrated their efforts into a very small amount of elite ships and crews, that if lost, practically crippled the IJN. Carriers and Battleships got the most amount of attention and the smaller Cruisers and Destroyers, ships vital for Anti-Submarine Warfare got practically none during the war.
Pretty much all nations had sonar + depth charges on their destroyers. It was the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this standard requirement for a naval fleet. It’s just that submarines are incredibly difficult to hunt (listening for propeller screws, locating their exact position and then setting your depth charges for a perfect hit) In contrast, submarines only need the range (using identification books that show ships with their exact length, a timer to measure the ship speed, and both ship length + speed to measure angle, then you can leave once the torpedoes leave the chambers.) Apart from the Yamato, the Japanese strategy was always focused on building smaller light cruisers and destroyers, submarines and carriers to sink or damage US battleships in minor night skirmishes. After they’ve whittled the US fleet, the final “grand battle” would bring the safe and untouched battleships, Yamato-class included, to finish the crippled US fleet. The US had a similar battle plan (crazy how a good idea is used by both sides) where they would whittle the Japanese fleet while island hopping- reducing the ports from which Japanese ships could repair. Then a final “grand battle” would be the knock out punch.
The biggest difference is that Japan focused on crippling battleships, the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this US focused on crippling the Japanese fleet, any vessel and submarines included. Funnily enough, the Germans had major issues with their torpedoes too, especially early in the war, extending right up until the defeat in the Atlantic Campaign in ’43. They even called it “Torpedokrise”, torpedo crisis. Issues with the magnetic fuze (it was so awful Dönitz eventually ordered the submariners to always fire with impact fuze) and with depthkeeping forced the gunners to aim higher than desirable, making hits much less dangerous. Operation Drumbeat, during which German U-Boats sank 3 milion tons of shipping in half a year off the American coast, could’ve been much worse, for example.
I always find it weird how much Wehraboos fawn over German tanks, which weren’t as great as made out, when the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this U-Boat service was much more significant to the overall war effort. The people that crewed the US subs and the hit rates they were seeing were incredible. They were let down by the failure of the Mk14 torpedo and the willingness of the navy brass to cover it up. The faulty magnetic detonator it used cost the US hundreds of thousands of tons of ships that did not sink due to dud torpedos. Navy brass was actively trying to reprimand sub crews for turning off the magnetic detonator and turning on the impact fuse which saw the dud rate go down significantly. That’s overly simplistic. It was the Navy ordinance board who obstructed and also slow walked the mark 18 because they didn’t design it. The Admiral in charge of submarines ended up setting up his own test range to determine that the detonator were too fragile, the magnetic detonation didn’t work due to variations in magnetic fields throughout the earth, and they were running too deep. Makes sense when you consider how small the German and Italian navies were in comparison, not that Italy’s was small by any means but not Japan large or capable. The Royal Navy made pretty quick work of the Regia Marina If I recall, and I can look up the stats in a book later, but it took one engagement in the Mediterranean with UK and Mussolini ordered his fleet to remain docked after a net loss of ships. Port Arthur was attacked by hurricane Rita, but it has looked like it’s been shelled during war for generations now
The Royal Navy did not make quick work of the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this regia marina. They lost control of the Mediterranean temporarily after they had a couple of battleships blown up by frogmen, the bulk of allied shipping got redirected around africa for years and what couldn’t be to bases like Malta was contested, Italy was able to send shipping albeit contested to north Africa, allied ships that could have been sent to protect Atlantic traffic and defend against the Japanese were tied down waiting for opportunities to strike at the italians and protect shipping. It took years to neutralize the Italian navy. The Regina marina is usually regarded as the best preforming Italian branch of the war even if they lost the majority of the battles.
The Regia Marina also outperformed the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this Kriegsmarine by pretty much any measure you care to apply. The British devoted far more assets to the Mediterranean than the North Sea. TBF, the Kriegsmarine surface fleet was mostly locked up in the Baltic where the British couldn’t get at them and vice versa. The Regia Marina would have loved to do that if they geographically could. Queen Elizabeth and Valiant were not ‘blown up’ by frogmen, they were both damaged but Valiant was back in action within a couple of months, QE took a bit longer. The only Royal Navy battleship that was ‘blown up’ in the Mediterranean was Barham, which was torpedoed by a German submarine. How can you write something so wrong so confidently? And people invote it then, really makes me wonder how many people on this sub are more interested in glorifying their own countries military rather than actually looking at the facts. Not sure what part you are saying makes sense. The number seems low seeing as submarines are basically designed to sink ships. Also the Axis sank much more than the US That statistic is amazing when you figure. In the fact that they were armed with defective torpedoes for the first two years of the war On the other hand the Japanese long lance torpedo was the best in the war, but Japanese high command didn’t value submarine warfare, so didn’t maximise their use… They could have been far more devestating.
Japanese use of torpedoes by destroyers were probably the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this best. Like you said though, it certainly doesn’t make up for the lack of submarine warfare which is where torpedo focus should be. Destroyers have the tendency of not exactly being stealthy while also being outgunned. Yeah, the US submarine effort in the PTO is, for some reason, completely overshadowed by the German effort in the Battle of the Atlantic, despite being drastically more succescul. German Submarines sunk 14,5 million gross tons of allied shipping in WWI and and 13,5 million gross tons in WWII. US Submarines though set records in sinking military vessels (Battleships, Cruisers etc) in WWII with 201, followed by Germany with 148.
USN submarines however were far more successful. By war’s end near the Pacers Vs Bucks It’s Ok If You Don’t Like My Teams Not Everyone Has Good Taste Shirt in addition I really love this entirety of Japan’s pre-war merchant fleet was resting on the ocean floor, Japan had long been critically short of nearly every resource it needed to effectively wage war (particularly fuel), and the country was under effective blockade and teetering on the edge of starvation. Well it’s hard for the US to sink shipping vessels when you are the invading country and the other 2 are a land army and a shrinking empire who was leaving their troops under supplied on islands as their sphere shrank. That‘s correct. Finding targets was a challange for Allied submarines. From that POV 5 mill tons are very impressive. to be fair, the Uboats twice were causes for the US to enter a World War. Most history classes and interest are going to follow the causes, even if it unfortunately casts a shadow on what won us the war
