It’s hard to stay focused at times. Twice now I’ve not had to actually do anything, probably won’t get called up a third time as even twice is more than most people. Do you have access to any assisted listening devices? Eg Roger Table mics, Oticon Connect clip or Roger ON? They would help massively with hearing in court rooms and round tables with lots of people even with dodgy hearing aids. I know from personal experience that although courts say they have loop systems and infrared systems installed they are usually shite. I am deaf and have a whole whack of stuff to help me hear at a distance. Happy to give you more info if it would help. I can’t go into depth for obvious reasons, but the thing that made it difficult was that the defendant seemed a bit vulnerable and I felt like he wasn’t really able to give a good account of himself. The whole process rests on the assumption that people behave in a way that makes sense, and people always make sense when they’re telling the truth, but I’m not sure I believe that.
