Had a lady get mad at me because I couldn’t tell her where the Mississippi State Bulldogs Football 2023 It’s In My DNA shirt but in fact I love this food rehydrators were, yea you read that right, rehydrator and not dehydrator This was a few years ago back when I was ON TL at a neighborhood market. I had come in early to help push some of the huge volume of holiday freight and this happened right before close; they had already made several announcements. At my market, we actually turned the registers off at 5 minutes after unless there were still people in line. (Of course we could still run cards if we wanted to, but we didn’t tell anyone that). I was using the electric Jack to pull a pet food pallet and passed this woman standing in the baby aisle obviously looking at diapers. I made eye contact, smiled and nodded and kept moving forward. So I’m dropping off the pet pallet but it’s still in the air while I meneuver it closer to the end cap, and I feel someone grab and shake my shoulder. Of course this is a huge no no with this kind of equipment so I immediately stop and let go of the handle which makes the Jack turn off. This epitome of karendom starts snapping at me about how rude it was for me to ignore her when she needed help with the diapers. I was confused bc she hadn’t said anything to me when I walked by but she insisted that I should’ve realized she needed help bc she was looking at the top stock and clearly needed someone to get something for her. I apologized and asked her to step back so that I could set and drop the pet pallet, take the electric Jack back to it’s station, then help her. She got super mad and started telling me that the customer came first. I explained that I couldn’t leave the electric Jack on the sales floor unattended and I was the only person on the floor certified to touch it. I offered to flag down another employee to help her which she refused bc “it was my job” and I couldn’t just “pawn her off on someone else”. As this is going down the FE announces that we are now closed and the registers are being turned off in a moment. This is the cue for people to make a mad dash up front and immediately check out. This lady is still staring me down and I’m still not moving bc safety. After about two minutes they announce that registers have been turned off and anyone remaining in the store needs to leave and return tomorrow. This woman blows up and says I’ll be lucky to still have a job when she’s done with me, then stomps up front. I finish setting my pallet and have it halfway back to the back room when the FE closer gets on the radio to tell me that a very upset customer up front would like to speak to the MOD. So I finish stowing the Jack and make my way up front to see this woman pacing and verbally abusing my FE person. When she sees me she starts doing this evil laugh and tells me that as soon as the manager gets there she’s gonna have me fired. Just stare at her for a minute and then point to my badge stack which clearly has my TL badge, plus the big yellow MOD one I wore when I was the only TL closing. She pitched a fit and started telling me how I ruined everything bc she had a baby shower to go to in the morning and needed a specific kind of diaper. She mentioned which one it was and I had a little chuckle. She wanted to know what was so funny and I told her. I had stocked infant first thing when I’d gotten there a few hours earlier and the diapers she wanted were definitely on the shelf, I had put them there probably 10 minutes before she came in. She just hasn’t paid enough attention to realize they had changed their packaging. She demanded I go get them and check her out. Instead I told her she could leave or I could call the cops. She left, but the next day I got pulled into the office and told that someone had made a complaint to corporate saying that I had attempted to run them over with a big red electric Jack. I told them what actually happened and they could tell from the footage I was telling the truth. Initially I was going to get a coaching for using the electric Jack while customers were in the store, but I was able to show them an email from the store lead telling me to do it that way after a kid on evenings had run over his own foot and broken his toes trying to stop a pet pallet from hitting a careless customer. So nothing ended up happening to me and I never saw her again.

Code Sam is when you have to reach out to customers. Let them know that you exist to help them. That even though your arms are full of stuff that you can absolutely unlock that cage once they make their decision. I never say “you finding everything okay” cause damn I don’t want to hear “No! You keep moving everything on us!” Like it’s my fault. :/ I wish. I was told by another coworker to ignore. So I ignore. But if you ever do hear “attention all walmart employees, this is your code Sam reminder”, that’s what it is. I’m kinda done with it. Just put me on the truck and leave me alone Because I stopped them from shoplifting. Not sure what kind of support they were looking for when getting mad and screaming but they sure weren’t going to get it there. I mean, yeah, call corporate because you’re mad you were trying to steal shit and got stopped, by all means see how that goes. I’m sure any OGP friends will understand customers trying to get their orders from inside. At least at my store you can’t dispense to customers inside. Only in the parking spaces. When you tell these people we’re not allowed to dispense to them indoors they get so heated. Like if ur coming into the store anyway why even make an order? When I first started at Walmart I was in OGP and it was right after COVID hit and the personal shopping thing got huge. I often got stuck in the back room organizing orders, taking care of exceptions, double checking expiration dates and best of all… Answering the phone. I couldn’t count how many times customers would call to say they’re outside waiting, give no info, then hang up. Id send someone out to see who they were so we could grab their order. 80% of the time it was someone who came way too early, or someone who hasn’t picked their stuff up the day before and decided they were ready now. And of course, if we didn’t have their order ready to go right at that moment they’d pitch a hissy fit. Like, dude, c’mon… We maxed at 17 orders an hour bc we were a small market, but you still can’t expect us to just have every order ready several hours in advance just in case you come at a very different time than you told us you would. And we didn’t have even close to enough room to keep all of the previous days leftover orders.
