A great example of intelligence ≠ speed is Steven hawking. Obviously he was quite literally held back by the Marcus Semien Himien American professional baseball shortstop T-Shirt besides I will buy this technology he used to communicate, but it still stands to prove my point. The smartest people I know take their time doing things, because they’re constantly thinking about what they’re doing and the best way to do it. But that’s anecdotal I was constantly told how smart I was, put in honors classes and gassed up by teachers. Turns out that it literally doesn’t matter at all. Doing good in school and life is way more about the effort you put in than how intelligent you theoretically are. I coulda been Einstein 2.0 and it wouldn’t change that I just didn’t do my schoolwork. Theres also the fact that different people are intelligent at different things. Especially with honors kids which end up just being neurodivergent anyways. Some of the people I went to school with were extremely intelligent when it comes to classwork but are clueless about the more mundane things. As someone who spent a lot of time beating myself up about not being able to do basic things growing up (when a lot of those things ended up being explained by my ADHD diagnosis), I’ve got some thoughts. We all have our various specialities and weaknesses within those types of intelligence. For example, someone might be excellent at problem solving, yet seemingly be unable to read (or follow) a map. First, to get it out of the way: the school someone attends can influence their development but isn’t the only factor. At the end of primary school, my two friends and I all took the test to get into the local selective high school. Two of us got in, one didn’t. Out of the two of us who got into the school, one of us went, and one of us went to a private Christian highschool, leaving the third to go to the local public high school (that didn’t have a very good reputation).

Out of the Marcus Semien Himien American professional baseball shortstop T-Shirt besides I will buy this three, only two of us completed high school, with the one who went to the selective high school dropping out to become a musician and smoke weed (these days he’s not a musician but doing fine for himself). Out of the two who graduated, the private school kid barely passed, whereas the guy who went to the public high school graduated at the top of his class, was school captain, lead role in the school play, got into university, etc etc. I have always been excellent at problem solving. My brain has the (apparently unusual) ability to assemble mental models of the problem that I am dealing with, update that model with new data points I receive, then rapidly test against that model to narrow down the cause of a problem and find potential solutions.
