I was attempting to come up with an example of inability to consent that could occur within an otherwise capable adult. Surgery is rare, but hormone suppressants and counseling is becoming increasingly common. Those start as early as possible, well before 13 at times, to mitigate the effects of the person’s birth sex. Maybe this is a side conversation, but parents make irreversible decisions for their infant kids about their genitals every day. Has no one else heard of circumcision? That was pretty accurate to describe intense teenage gender dysphoria. Watching physical changes happen and being desperate but powerless to stop them.

Thank you for explaining all this. I have struggled with how to understand the Life Is Short, Eat The Fruit And Wear The Shirt! T-Shirt it is in the first place but trans community without media bias one way or another. Your comment has given me insight into the situation trans people deal with that I have been unable to find. I won’t say that I fully understand it yet, but at least this comment gave me insight and empathy I’m going to be using the dog analogy I think, thank you for that. My son is 15 and trans, he’s been on blockers since 10 and is on a low dose male hormone now. He starts T in 5 months. People have a lot of wild assumptions about the morality of hormonal transition and about agendas and not letting a kid be who they are. But this is who he is. I don’t want to watch my son suffer through developing breasts and getting his period and all of the physical changes of female development if he doesn’t have to. The amount of damage that would cause would be catastrophic. He’s a boy, he’s always been a boy, he’s excited to see the changes of boy puberty and he is comfortable and happy with himself. This is what people don’t understand about trans kids and it drives me crazy.
