In the Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade Tour Wheatland, CA Poster shirt and by the same token and last ~3 years of my college time, I joined a few electrical engineering clubs and I participated in the group projects, spending a lot of time outside of my course workload to learn electronics. The projects I participated in, I put those on my resume and I applied for so many embedded engineering/electrical engineering summer internships in my second-to-last year of college. All but one company accepted me for an internship (because I didn’t have a engineering/CS degree). It was an unpaid internship but it was exactly what I wanted to work on. During the internship, I spent a lot of time self-teaching more programming and electrical engineering knowledge. I finished the internship, graduated college in 2020, and was unemployed for 8 months.

During these 8 months, I had applied a lot of embedded systems/software engineering jobs (again, basically what I want to work in). Had maybe 6 calls and sets of interviews from +300 applications. During this time, I continued to study electrical engineering and programming in my free time and I’d work on projects on my own. Let me reiterate that I did not follow a traditional path. I am self-taught in programming and electronics. Look at how much additional stuff I did beyond my degree. And I also want to add that I pissed off a lot of people along the way but I did not step on anyone to have to get to where I am. There were people (engineering majors) in school who hated me for joining the engineering clubs because they thought I didn’t belong. The internship environment was extremely toxic because again, people didn’t think I was qualified to be there and work on the stuff I did so there was a lot of upfront scowling and people refusing to mentor/give guidance towards me. Even my current job, there are people who straight out dislike me and are passive aggressive or just avoid me.
