These are the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this most important points that come to mind. If any one of these aren’t fulfilled, it’s an immediate dealbreaker for me. Obviously, there are many other factors to consider as well. On a sidenote, I’m surprised you’re struggling to find a partner when it seems like you have your shit together if I am to take what you’re saying to be the truth. However, it’s not like I know everything about you either. A lot of failed relationships isn’t a very good look, even if they didn’t fail because of you. You’re also in your early 30s. Do you possibly have a kid or kids? I’m sure you already know how much more challenging it can get if you do. This may sound shallow but what is the inherent value of marriage? It often doesn’t directly lead to anything tangible. Lots of men hear horror stories of divorce, and it often ends better on the woman’s end of the deal. Marriage was invented when the human life expectantly was around 30 years old, it was a technology that wasn’t intended to be used as long as it is now days. I think a lot of younger men I’ve met just have the idea that, life is OK when you’re not married. Frankly having a girlfriend is satisfying and fulfilling and sometimes we wonder why do you need to get married, why does an external party need to “verify” our relationship? At the end of the day marriage is really just a concept, and I think in a sense the “veil is lifted” kinda thing. Seeing it for what it really is rather than just going along with societal expectations. I see similarities in how younger people are not wanting to go to college, it’s more about the principle of the matter and thinking about it beyond “its just what everyone is expected to do with their life”. Not an inherit hate for marriage

Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt: get your shirt now

Frankly I’m head over heels for my girlfriend and I don’t see why me not wanting to get officially married should imply any level of disinterest, lack of love, lack of commitment. At the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this end of the day, for me personally, I don’t see much value from having the local courts approve of our love if it’s already there. I think its really a deep rooted social thing, which is why even typing this out makes me feel a little weird, it’s so ingrained into our minds that you HAVE to get married. I’d you’re in a relationship with someone for more than two years and you don’t know their stance on marriage and why they do or do not want it, something is afoot about your communication. The topic needs to come up at some point in a serious way, because it’s once of those things that’s guaranteed to be a source of differing expectations somehow.
The kind of guy you’re looking for is going to be able to pull a very hot 20’s girl with no previous kids. How do you expect to compete? Have seen 90% of marriages end. Usually horribly. Also in today’s society there’s no real reason to socially or legally They think they might be able to do better. Aren’t willing to commit, but will often drag relationships on for years if not decades, while secretly hoping for better. I encourage you to look for opportunities to understand your guy more deeply and learn how to support him emotionally more effectively. Over the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this years we picked up some helpful tips from various guests on Focus on the Family radio. These are marriage counselors who have written books on various topics related to relationships. While FoF is a Christian org, a number of the books are not explicitly religious, they are the fruit of the counselors years of work with couples. Some that come to mind: Chapman’s The Five Love Languages, Shaunti Feldhan’s sociology work. If you are Christian check out E. Eggerich Love and Respect.

Description for Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt

We all have psychological nicks and scratches from growing up with imperfect parents and siblings. I like the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this work of Milan and Kay Yerkovich, How We Love, which helps people get a better feel for the relationship dynamics that are influenced by our early years. For example this is a somewhat humorous clip from their FoF interview Start by just being happy with yourself without being married. That will be the best way to attract someone into a committed relationship like marriage. No one wants to be the end all part of a relationship—that’s too much pressure. It might be the single mother thing, might be your making more money than they are, and it embarrasses them. Could be anything. There was a woman before my wife that I was close to marrying. She was fun and quirky. She liked anime and video games. She was 5 years younger than me (mid 20s) and just seemed behind in handling how to do adulting. I recognized the age gap and just thought she needed time to grow up. I gave her almost 3 years of my life and numerous discussions about various childish actions and how they would impact our life in the long term if she didn’t get her life together more. For example, paying bills on time (her credit cards, I payed all the rent and utilities), doing taxes on time, taking care of her body better (she was eating fast food to spend more time on her hobbies 3-4 times a week), doing her share of the chores, and taking her car in to get looked at a couple times a year (oil change, inspection etc). It just never stuck. I realized I would be babysitting this woman her whole life. I needed a partner to go through life together. I also wanted children and couldn’t imagine her taking care of a child when she couldn’t even do the basics of taking care of herself.
Massive debt. Social media obsession. Materialism. Emotional entitlement. Or if she doesn’t seem like she’ll be much fun. You’re making too much money and he feels insecure. So you’re baiting guys into the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this hook of a sugar mama just looking for a fling. Even if you “say” you’re lookin for commitment, they don’t care because it’s been used by so many whores just looking for a better quality dick. But ya, leave the income and lie about your job for a few months, see what you get on the hook “Will I still madly love this person 20 years from now or do I think there is someone out there a better fit for me” do you have hobbies? I mean are you passionate about something (and have been for a long time) or is it just brunches and shoes?
It’s the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this opposite. Men, by default, generally aren’t looking to marry a woman. We can enjoy her company, enjoy being physically and emotionally intimate with her, appreciate everything she does for us, etc., but does that mean we want to commit our life to being with her? It’s not even about just the commitment, but the risks associated with it. Everything we are giving up. Everything we are risking. All the billions of attractive women out there that we could theoretically meet. The risk of divorce, having a family and a home that is taken away from us. Etc. There are MANY reasons for a man to not want to get married. What makes us decide to marry a woman isn’t a characteristic. It’s how we feel. That’s it. Our feelings for her must be so strong that our rational brain shuts down and we decide we want her more than everything else. We are effectively saying “I’d be willing to risk destroying my life to have a chance at building a life with her.” BTW, nothing you said is why a guy will marry you. Guys generally don’t care if you make a lot of money. Instead, does the man feel like his life is better with you in it? This is likely to turn guys off more than attract them. Being good at cooking and cleaning is nice, but that’s a maid and hiring a maid is much cheaper than a wife. Instead, does the man feel like you are his home?
165 more repliesAsk yourself why do you even want to get married? Are you worried he could “just break up”with you at any time ? Do you feel he is not committed? What if he did marry you ? Could he also not just “divorce you” at any time ? First off: if I’m with someone who is obsessed over getting married, that’s more red flags than a Nazi party rally. It’s really, really desperate and creepy. I knew a girl who had her entire thing planned, like she wanted to be engaged at Age A, married at B, kids at C. It was gross and weird. Also, guys are becoming more and more anti-marriage after seeing so many dudes get utterly fucked in divorce/custody court. If I have a 50% or greater chance of losing everything if I do something, or I have a 0% chance if I do nothing, the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this answer is simple in that context.
I thought I wanted to get engaged to one girl but I told myself stick to 2 years. Holy shit by 1.5 I wanted to get up to a stop light and just get out of the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this car. Half your shit is now gone. 401k? Gone due to divorce costs or giving half away. Savings? Checking account? Gone. If you have children, they are fcked if you and your ex are not on good terms, plus the courts fcking hate fathers who are actively involved with their children. Alimony….for what reason? Oh yeah, your wife, according to Oprah “has the most difficult job in the world…. She’s a mother.” Oh gawd. Really? Like being roofer in the middle of July as a redhead isn’t harder? All those men who got black lung disease working in the coal mines had it easier than the mom playing dvds or an iPad in front of their kids so they can have a drink and watch the price is right?!? (credit: Bill Burr). Then. Then there is society’s judgement on your role as a father; involved with them in sports? Their school? Activities outside the home? Oh, and the costs for all of that… f*ck that truck you wanted or that hunting trip you take every fall with the guys… Gone. All of it… your freedom to come and go when you want… always having a “honey due list”. Ugh. Exhausting.
If you are part of the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this 40% that makes marriage work, great! Majority of people I know who have been married (then divorced) have no desire to marry again. And those that are not married have no interest, and don’t get me started on bringing a child into this shit world. 51F I had never been in love. I saw my guy and knew (not only did we both feel we knew each other but I had seen his eyes in a dream) we are married now but when we met it certainly wasn’t love at first sight but I was so shocked I almost went to my knees. I knew with certainty I felt a connection. It was extremely difficult, we both had extremely abusive pasts, but the transformation we made? The trauma we worked through? It made the bond so strong we glow together when we are happy.
You should never be in a relationship for more than a year if you are not both on the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this same page as to where the relationship is going. And how long you truly want it to take to get there. Don’t know enough to give accurate advice but I can give my immediate thoughts from reading your post. First, I don’t care how much you make. It may be because every relationship I’ve been in has matched the “my money is mine, your money is ours” thing. Also, a job paying that much probably means somewhat long work hours and you having to balance your priorities between me/family and your job. The second thing that comes to mind is the fact that there isn’t much to gain from marriage as a guy. I can get all of the same things while dating, without many of the risks. I would have to be madly in love with someone before I’d even consider it, and that feeling is just rare. One of my exes was obsessed with the notion of us getting married. I wasn’t necessarily opposed, but she couldn’t ever make it a full week without complaining or starting a fight about it.
The cost to risk ratio says it’s a bad investment. 40%-50% of marriages fail, those are not good odds. 75% are initiated by the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this woman. Something like 80% fail if the woman is college educated. If you want a religious ceremony, cool I can do that. But I’m not filing anything at the courthouse saying you can decide to leave because you get bored and now I have to pay you. I am selfish and I am not risking paying for an expensive wedding, an even more expensive divorce, and alimony on top of it for a 20% chance that it works out. I was dating a girl and just when it seemed to be going well, I overheard her screaming at her dog for doing dog stuff. She was livid and out of control of herself (Girlfriend, not the dog). In that one moment, I decided that this girl is not the one I want to marry. Do you ever talked about marriage with them? Usually couples have this talk together before proposing. It’s not like in the movies where the guy propose her out of nowhere. Irl the guy should know she will say yes cause they had convo about getting married in the future.
But, any woman who thinks that all men like the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this same things shows a remarkable degree of immaturity and lack of awareness. And I just don’t have time for that. Are you too pretty? Sometimes men don’t want to deal with a beautiful woman who knows it. It’s nice dating a pretty woman but gets to be too much trouble after a while. Well I’m not a man, but I am a woman who accidentally fielded 4 bended-knee proposals (& 2 more “I’m ready to get engaged/propose” conversations initiated by the guys— which is much more rational than jumping right to the proposal, 2 of mine caught me totally off guard!) Making life fun is kind of a personality thing, but I really do love being alive & I think that shows, and there was always a lot of laughter, joy, celebrating each other, sweet moments etc in my relationships. I also very aggressively had my shit together, which ironically I think makes life more fun, because you’re not stressing about the basics.
Self-respect is my unpopular opinion I think. It always hurt to watch my female friends let guys treat them badly (cheating, stringing them along, or just not being too enthusiastic about the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this relationship) & hope the dude would change instead of accepting that he just wasn’t that committed & moving on. If someone wasn’t obviously enthusiastic about me I would move on ASAP. I never had sex with anyone until we’d dated exclusively for a couple of months & were falling in love. And I never even entertained living with someone before we were engaged— that was the biggest trap I saw friends falling into, they’d date someone for 3, 4, 5, 6 years and then ultimately break up. If they were content with that fine, but it very much wasn’t what they wanted & would not have been okay with me. “Move out” is such a tough breakup & a higher bar compared to “let’s stop seeing each other” & people would drag their feet & put up with a lot of unhappiness first.
I think men are by you intimidated on some level. You probably make more than they do. You are self sufficient. I know this sounds dark, but many men want to find a wife who is somewhat dependent on them – financially, especially – so they can maintain some level of control over her and she is less able to leave if she wants to. What would make YOU want to marry a man? That is the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this real question. Marriage can create a lot of burdens for a woman, but many seem to think being “picked” by a man is some amazing accomplishment. Many women do NOT thrive in marriages and are actually dragged down emotionally, financially, physically, and spiritually. Have you ever given that level of commitment? True love doesn’t exist. Relationships where you work every day to worthy do. For many years I was under the assumption that time was like piling relationship money in the bank. In reality it’s the opposite. I strive everyday to be worthy of my partner and take nothing for granted. Gonna be real with you. We don’t want to deal with your kid, baggage from baby daddy, and potential entitlement that comes with a high earning woman, considering you will out earn 90% of men. Not saying you have these qualities, but that’s the first thing that comes to mind for a lot of conservative men.
On top of that, men that are on your income level are marrying younger, more attractive women now. Your best luck is to consider marrying down. If you are in your early 30’s and you’ve had relationships of 4, 5, and 6 years, that means they’ve likely begun in your teens and there was very little time in between, unless there was overlap which would be another issue. Finding someone compatible enough for a long term relationship is not easy, but to basically do it 3 times back to back to back is almost unheard of. Either you’ve been extremely lucky finding these people (at least initially) or you are just looking for any relationship and try to make it work any way possible. A friend of mine had a girl like that and it took him too long to realize that she was not being herself but rather trying to be what she thinks he wanted her to be. Once he realized he started to end thing
I don’t have the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this answer, but I’m sorry you feel that way. How they felt at that time is nothing to do with what you deserve. I don’t know them and I don’t know you, but I do know that it’s possible to roll a 6 twenty times in a row, so it could be just a bad run that feels like a pattern. Or maybe it’s something else. There can be philosophical reasons. Seeing marriage as a superficial agreement, because they see their love not dependent on a governmentally regulated contract or see it as a financial burden considering expected social events. The latter is especially the case if there are expectations of a grand “fantasy ceremony”. Most men see marriage as a step to take when prepared for it, financially and economy/their position not allowing that.
I was together for 11 years before marring my partner becuase of philosophical reasons. It simply didn’t matter for us (no-big-deal/waste of money), we basically married, because it was easier to for some visa reasons during the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this pandemic. We had a small party with family and close friends, and that’s it. We both are secular atheists/humanists (with some Christian cultural background), so there was no real pressure form a belief/religion standpoint to marry. Marriage is a serious matter. You become in many ways a collective, a family. You want to be sure that both parties are on the same level of what they want from life, have great honest communication, and be aware life is not an easy road. You should know each other’s hopes, fears, wishes but also discuss possible negative outcomes beforehand. In general I would say it takes great trust and you should already live together for some time, before considering marriage. You should not marry when you can imagine a live together, but when you reaize that you can’t live without them because you see them as your equal (and not for a financial/psychological dependency reasons).
If you fall in love, you’re on a hormonal high. You have metaphorical rose colored glasses on. This last about two years, before the Keep it up and I’ll make you a character in my Shirt in other words I will buy this hormonal high ebbs down to normal levels and the glasses come off. What you realistically bulid in that time in trust, intimacy, communication etc. decides how well the relationship will do when the hormones come down. But, its hard to make out red flags with rose colored glasses, if you don’t know what to look for. Wanting to marry ASAP is a red flag for many people. It usually is a sign for either naivité, high dependence/insecurity, FOMO, or worse (malicious intent, baby-trapping, monetary intentions, etc.). That is, when marriage was never seriously discussed, maybe they thought you do not care for it, want to keep the “wild marriage” status instead? Do not know about your culture and expectations about marriage/proposal, but maybe your partners were not into the traditional mindset that the man has to initiate and eventually propose?
