I think anything that doesn’t negatively affect your tips, AND gives you a little bit of joy in your day is fair game. -introvert who will combust if she has to hear one more customer ask “how are you?” when they really don’t care for the answer When I ask I’m asking cause I do actually care. I always engage in conversation with the people who are helping me. I guess it depends but after a certain amount of customers in retail, Satan himself could ask how you’re doing and you wouldn’t notice. That being said, if you are friendly and nice, that’s all you need to be. 🙂 Im kind of an extroverted goofball so stuff like that makes me laugh and makes my day. Would I tip more? Possibly. Same I was a server for years so I have an urge to be social and it does make me miss serving and having regulars in to eat and chat. I wouldn’t necessarily think you’re trying to get a bigger tip (maybe I’m gullible, but I normally top 20% minimum on my deliveries anyway.
