Being descriptive with color is not racist in my opinion. I’ve also had black friends who never had issues with being called black but actually they didn’t like being called African American in casual conversation because it felt more racist then just say black, can’t speak for every person of color though As black/Latina, this is not racist. People get so nervous. Someone was looking for a coworker and describing her as anything but black but a lot of coworkers wear glasses, pants, tall. So I asked “Do you mean the Jon Gruden The Legend Shirt (watermarked) Additionally,I will love this black woman?” And she said “Yeah”. Bro, it’s not offensive if the person is literally black. Not racist, everyone has different skin colours. When people try to avoid saying the colour of a person’s skin to describe them ironically feels low-key racist imo. Also I think calling someone “black” makes a lot more sense than “African-American”, because a lot of black people aren’t African, nor American lol.

Jon Gruden The Legend Shirt (watermarked), hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

It’s not racist. You were using black as a descriptor. If you said “the Jon Gruden The Legend Shirt (watermarked) Additionally,I will love this big guy in the red shirt” it would be the same thing. We are so conditioned not to use race as when describing someone because we don’t want to be labeled racist that we are making race a taboo. The only way to get past racism is to normalize race being used as a descriptor the way as we use hair or eye color. It’s the intent that matters. Rule of thumb: If bringing up hair color would be relevant, then bringing up skin color isn’t racist. As long as you are not afraid to also call people white. I.e- You wouldn’t say, “hey, my brown haired friend Tom and I are going to get drinks after work,” so you don’t need to say “my Black friend and I are going to get drinks after work.” But if your partner then says, “Wait which one is Tom?” it would be appropriate to say “the tall white guy with the brown hair,” so “the tall Black guy,” is all good, too. I used to work with two Aprils. One was older and black and the other was younger and white. When asked if I had seen April, I asked the white or black one? The other guy thought I was being racist and I asked how else was I supposed to differ, “old and young?”
