There’s been very few royal sisters in history, so it’s an interesting exercise—it’s fascinating, really—to find out how the Im not fat im just so freakin sexy it overflows shirt moreover I love this sisters interact when they’re not at war with one another, when they’re working together.Your biography of Diana was groundbreaking. If she were alive today, what do you think she would think of the Family? She had fallen out with the family back in 1996, 1997 with the divorce. She would be, I think, very understanding of Meghan walking out on the family and she’d be arguing that “this is a girl from America who has a degree, spoken at the United Nations, is a social media maven, and she couldn’t take it for more than a year. It reinforces my own case.” That is definitely what she would be saying, because towards the end, if you recall, she was talking about getting a place in Malibu. She would have been sympathetic towards Meghan because of her own experience. As the preeminent royal biographer, which royal is the most compelling to you? Who would you love to have tea with?I think Camilla would be fun to have tea with.Endlessly playing Meghan against Kate became a device for spinning racist tales about the biracial duchess. Kate became a foil, the prim, basic “English rose” (a description typically lavished on white women) by which to measure Meghan as difficult and bullying, variations on the “angry Black woman” trope. The Sun report initially alleging Meghan made Kate cry over flower girl dresses marked a turning point—not for the supposed clash between the duchesses, but as the moment when the palace allowed a damning, false story to stand about Meghan, a story that fit with a broader, racist media narrative. “It’s unfortunately an example of how the world allows Black women and women of color to be painted as these demanding, aggressive people,” writer and editor Britt Stephens, who covers the royals, told me. “And then we go to these great lengths to protect white women at all costs.”Meghan telling Oprah that Kate was the one who made her cry was a Rorschach test of sorts. People saw in it what they wanted to see. Some interpreted it as Meghan calling out Kate, a confirmation of their animosity. I, on the other hand, saw the grace with which Meghan emphasized that she was “not sharing that piece about Kate in any way to be disparaging to her,” but because it was “really important for people to understand the truth.” Kate apologized and brought Meghan flowers and a note, she added. “She did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone.”Even as Meghan ostensibly gave fans permission to love both her and Kate, it still feels fraught, perhaps even more after the Oprah interview. “Is it possible to still love both of them? I think absolutely it’s possible,” said Stephens. But “what we learned in the interview has definitely changed my opinion of [Kate], however fair that is.” Meghan’s detailed claims of how the royal family, presumably including Prince William and Kate, did not support her as she struggled through suicidal ideation, has chipped away at the Cambridges’ image, and for some, their credibility as mental health advocates. “How can you say you’re talking about mental health when you’re not even taking care of the mental health concerns in your own family?” Palepu asked. It’s disappointing to me to think that Kate may have failed to support Meghan. I also wonder—as Meghan seemed to herself—to what extent Kate had the power to publicly refute the notorious flower-girl-dress report. “I would hope that she would’ve wanted that corrected,” Meghan told Oprah of Kate, “and maybe in the same way that the palace wouldn’t let anybody else negate it, they wouldn’t let her, because she’s a good person.” Prince Harry made it clear that he believes Prince Charles and Prince William, the direct heirs to the throne, are “trapped” in the firm. Where does such a system leave a wife?Comparing the two duchesses will always be inherently flawed, based on their roles within the institution. As future queen consort, married to one heir and the mother of another, Kate is bound by more rigid rules and expectations, while Meghan, as wife of a prince who is sixth in line, had more freedom (if only marginally) to speak out on feminism or scrawl messages to sex workers on bananas. Meghan’s candor in the Oprah interview is something fans will likely never see from Kate. Meghan became infinitely more interesting to me in recent years, but as Stephens points out, “We’ll never know how interesting Kate really is.”By some estimations, Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah forever solidified the divide between the Sussexes and Cambridges. The fleeting Fab Four moment “was a beautiful illusion,” Lui told me, a fantasy of Will, Kate, Harry, and Meghan as a fresh, youngish quartet who will sex up the monarchy. Now, “I don’t know that these women will ever relate to each other,” Lui said, “especially if, to go back to the real issue, their husbands are so broken.” At the risk of sounding delusional, Kelley is observing glimmers of positivity online—constructive Facebook threads and chains expressing gratitude for a rare safe space at What Kate Wore. When Meghan spoke about her mental health, Courter believes it woke people up. “Do we really have to make nasty comments about either woman, Kate or Meghan? What are they going through? We don’t know,” she said. “People just know them from afar.”

A few weeks ago, the Im not fat im just so freakin sexy it overflows shirt moreover I love this Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s foundation, Archewell, made a donation. The recipient? PressPad, a nonprofit that offers financial and mentoring support to young people with diverse backgrounds looking to break into journalism. (The couple previously stated they “believe in a free, strong, and open media industry, which upholds accuracy and fosters inclusivity, diversity, and tolerance.”)Due to their global celebrity status, it’s unlikely Harry and Meghan will ever stop being newsworthy. Nor should they, or their actions, remain free of scrutiny. But can a balance be struck where the tabloids keep power in check while also holding themselves accountable?Like a virtual trip to Soho Farmhouse, Middleton’s page is awash in golden light, golden retrievers, and wide-wale corduroy. His Lark-filtered British countryside porn is second to none. He carts bales of hay, bee-keeps as a form of meditation, and deftly uses “lamb” as a verb (i.e., “impromptu lambing”). He drives his dogs around in a bicycle-cum-canine-limo, which was stolen in 2019 but, mercifully, found. His pups recently had a dinner party that looks more refined than any I’ve attended in ages.Like Kate, Middleton is an advocate for mental health who has been open about his own struggles. He credits Ella as a source of support in his battles with clinical depression, and the inspiration for his “happiness & wellbeing company for dogs,” Ella & Co. (Middleton is also the creator of Boomf, a personalized marshmallow company.) “My dogs played a vital role in my recovery,” he has written. But his feed is impressively devoid of royal news and/or thirst as it relates to his siblings, his brother-in-law Prince William, or his nieces and nephews. In March 2019, Middleton posted from Buckingham Palace—but not about his famous family. More characteristically, the focus was on his beloved dog Mabel.View on Instagram
