How do I do it? I destroy my soul commuting 3hrs/day dealing with completely incompetent and demanding nyc agencies as clients just to make a salary that would be a king’s ransom in most of the I would rather be collecting legendary comic book heroes T-Shirt and by the same token and world but barely supports a family of five here so I can pay for a ridiculous mortgage and watch my kids enjoy an amazing childhood experience blissfully ignorant of how good they have it Ouch, man. I’m sorry. This is the situation I’m trying to avoid. My wife and I haven’t had kids specifically to avoid this situation. I say it in a self-deprecating way and I definitely have my down days or weeks, but don’t cry a river for me we’re getting by alright. I love raising my kids here, and they seem to be truly happy. They love day trips to the beach and the natural history museum. Sesame place, Legoland, local parks all the time, hopefully skiing/boarding starting next year for the eldest. Where else are we going to have all that so accessible? It’s not even a choice to me honestly. Took me 6-figure college loans and a decade+ of toiling after that just to have any semblance of a family life here. It’s not for everyone, for sure. Wish you the best in your plight! You sound like my Dad in terms how well you treat your kids. My dad is a great guy. I bet your kids love you tons. 🙂

Make over 100k combined and can’t afford to buy. And by the I would rather be collecting legendary comic book heroes T-Shirt and by the same token and time we have more saved, we will continue to be priced out. We been renting our place for a while and that’s the only reason we are not spending more of our income on housing. Yeah I was making myself suicidally miserable for a while with a much higher paying job and I was no closer to being a homeowner so I quit. I just want to say that my heart goes out to you. When we were house hunting in 2014, we were shown a huge 7-bedroom house for $750k that we passed on because it was out of our budget, but I keep thinking about that because the house we did buy back then is now “worth” closer to $750k than what we paid for it. Every small house in my neighborhood is bought by a builder who knocks it down and puts up a 1mil+ house. And I really feel that it has such a horrible effect on the community. Why are there no starter homes anymore? Who decided that the only people worthy of buying a home are the ones with lots of money? You can’t even save up for a house… It’s impossible. Yeah man, that’s where we are. And starter homes don’t make as much profit as mega mansions. So people build mega mansions.I got into an affordable housing condo luckily just before covid. No way I would be able to rent or purchase something now if I didn’t do that
