Until the internet happened (because where else are you going to see that flag?), I thought it was a clothes brand symbol. The brand still exists. I’ve heard it being referred to as “our own Abercrombie and Fitch”. The flag was part of the logo for about 45 years. It wasn’t til recently (late 2010s) that they slowly phased it out. Assuming you aren’t American, in which case your comment makes sense. But for Americans, we generally see it in History books. I grew up before the internet, and have always known damned well what it is/means (not good things).
