These colleges proudly say they are a “ragging free campus”. But the biggest mental torture comes from the faculty itself, not the seniors. And the worst part is, if students react, they may end up getting suspended or their internals reduced. This is the reason I have no nostalgia when I think about my btech days. The faculty was the worst. They had the biggest ego and the students had to suffer. There was even a professor who would behave inappropriately to female students and thinking back now, someone should have reacted then, but no one did fearing their internal marks or other “disciplinary” actions.

Shradha’s unfortunate demise has brought to light many of the major issues at the college. Let me elaborate a few instances: Slut shaming and misogyny: Students are allowed to wear colour dress on Saturdays. Literally on our first day of orientation, the principal started going on rant about how jeans are low class and how girls wear leggings to sexually arouse men. On Saturdays in front of hostel, the warden would stand, scanning students from head to toe, if they are found to wear leggings, jeans or have no shawl, they are instructed to go back and change. The warden of girls hostel was a nun. Avar namade ilatha ammayi ammaye vare theri vilikum. Any girl who dresses fashionably or is outspoken is seen as azhinjathakaari.
