With enough rewards points to get a $2 discount, I was getting them from $8.90 out the door. But I think they wised up because they no longer accept any promo codes. Good while it lasted, I guess. Yep, but franchisees are free to opt out of their promotions. That code is rejected by my nearest Subway, but it’s valid at other ones further away. Apparently those coupons have franchises selling the sandwiches for less than they have to buy ingredients from subway corporate, so unless you buy a soda or chips they’re going in the negative. Subway will sell a franchise to basically anyone and they have shit margins after you buy ingredients so I get why a lot of stores won’t take them.

I remember it changing to 2/$15 (we went for the priciest one because it’s already expensive for the deal). Then it changed to 2/$20 now it’s 2/$22. Same think with Taco Bell. The quesadilla, my brother’s favorite, is half the size and has almost no cheese now! Same thing with Wendy’s Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers. They used to be $1 and then like $1.25. Now they are like $3.50 Around here, they still have the five dollar Biggie Bag, which is a fairly good deal for what you get (Choice of a few burgers, nuggets, fries, and drink). Several of their cheap items like the bacon cheeseburger and the double stack were/are essentially loss leaders. If you went in and only bought those, it was for less than the store’s cost to make them and in some instances, it was less than for what it cost to buy them. Food costs went up and wages went up so that made those items more difficult to justify selling at that price point. At least in my state, the other problem came when customers started opting for those over the significantly more expensive menu combos. Also, franchisees and corporate has maintained or increased greediness for more profits. It’s mind blowing to see how their net has changed from 2012 ($7.1 million) till now ($177.4 million), though some of that growth can be attributed to a a thousand new stores opening in that time as well as a pretty massive number of stores that stopped being company owned.
