On hat day in middle school and elementary school we could wear a hat, but only if we paid three dollars!! Only when I got to high school and hats were suddenly allowed year round did I realize how stupid that was. It’s been around for as long as I can remember. Donations are always better than charging in my opinion. I could see trying to make kids see the Hookline Sinkers 90’s Team shirt Additionally,I will love this art has worth from a sale or something, but this defeats the entire purpose of teaching that creativity brings equity. Not everyone has money, and if anything teaches that poor people don’t deserve beauty, which is fucking wrong. Which makes me okay with us donating for some things but not these two. Still did it but because we love our kids. My private school used to have us kids make Christmas ornaments to be sold at the holiday fair. I was so proud of my glittery popsicle stick snowflake. But momma bought my most hated classmate’s pom pom snowman instead. I see this ornament every year when we decorate the tree and it fills me with an unreasonable amount of rage. Yeah. Literally on Halloween it’s one kind of dress for the haves and another for the have-nots and anybody with eyes could look around the room and see who’s who. Sad for the kiddos. I can’t believe these teachers and admins were trained on diversity and inclusion and then…did this.
