I was in the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and military for 9 years, knew some incredibly intelligent people – Doctors, Pilots, Engineers and so on – and you’d be surprised how many are borderline crayon munchers when it comes to every day tasks. Like I knew one engineer, so fucking intelligent when it came to engineering, mathematics and physics but couldn’t wash his clothes properly. His uniform trousers in particular he put on too hot a wash on multiple occasions and shrunk. Once you can write off, when you do it 3/4/5 times you’re a fucking moron. There was a Doctor, incredibly intelligent, would have to put their hands out in front of them at time and make the L shape to work out which was her left and right. And it wasn’t for show either, she wasn’t being funny. I’d see her get in her car with nobody nearby and do it, it was fucking bizarre.

Just because you’re intelligent and can pass tests/retain/repeat knowledge doesn’t necessarily mean you can function in a way the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and average person does The smartest guy I ever met couldn’t change a lightbulb. Practical skills and theoretical knowledge are two completely different things. Different people are different people. I like to believe that there are different types of intelligence and wisdom too, simple as that. I used to work in a biomedical research building years ago, and the number of lab staff doing research I could never dream of understanding who also couldn’t operate a fax machine was astounding. Some people are just different types of smart Doing well in school is all about memory. School is just trying to remember the information that the teacher wants and them giving it back to them. I always have had a bad memory which is why I had to put a lot of time into studying. Some people have a great memory and remember information that is given to them one time. These people are not necessarily “smarter”, they just have a better memory I’m “slow” academically. It takes me time to understand certain things. Banking, financial, mortgages, government, anything like that is very overwhelming for me and very confusing. I need it explained as if I am 3 years old. Book smarts and street smarts are not the same thing. She may take her rime or be distractible or trying to multitask too much. It’s not a measure of her intelligence but maybe an indication that she needs to focus and apply herself more on certain tasks. Or… she could be utilizing Weaponized incompetence.
My dad’s one of the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and smartest and hardworking men I’ve ever seen. Runs a business solo plus sales and constantly super involved in all his family and friends lives. It takes him ages to read a sentence. Sometimes it just happens like that My partner was way academically brighter than me and yet she can’t cook , like can’t boil an egg without messing it up level . YOU COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER; WHICH IS WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN IN SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGES….THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS THAT YOU HAVE FOUND YOUR SOULMATE AND GET ON WITH THE BUSINESS OF LOVING AND SUPPORTING EACH OTHER…ENJOY A LONG AND LOVING RELATIONSHIP ON YOUR JOURNEY……..MOM It doesn’t matter if you accomplish a basic task faster if you’re doing it incorrectly or substandard. I can vacuum the floor in 5 minutes and it might be passably clean, or I can spend 20 minutes and it might be immaculately clean. I can clean a cooking pot in 2 minutes or I can spend 10 minutes and make it look like it is fresh from the factory.

What you see as slow might just be your interpretation of methodical. So it really depends on the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and tasks you’re critiquing. Books smarts vs common sense/Street smarts. There is a tremendous difference, and you are witnessing that first hand. My wife is from rural upstate New York – she and her brother are sharp as hell and appear to have received a magnificent education Human brains are weird. The functions that are lost useful in academic success are only useful in a narrow subset of jobs, while other functions rarely tested for will prove vastly functional across a lifetime. I was a governor’s scholar, but I can barely remember how to navigate the roads in my own city. I forgot the directions to a street where I used to work for 6 years.. I’d be helpless without GPS, but thankfully for me, spacial processing isn’t tested for in school, so on paper I look very smart. He decided it would be a good idea to climb a ladder, in the rain, wearing sandals because he thought that the steam coming off my roof in the summer meant the house was on fire. He is physically uncoordinated by the way. School or intelligence smart and street smart are not the same. I know some very intelligent smart people who can’t hold a conversation about anything that they don’t have a degree in. I wonder how some of them survive in every day situations. one of my friends is a very very intelligent woman has degrees and god knows what other qualifications piling up high but honestly I think how has she got to where she is. There is no practical or common sense at all. She doesn’t know one end of a baby from the other, household appliances are a no go. She pays out all sorts of money for people to do everything for her because she is so dim! I don’t mean that bad as I tell her to her face and she knows I’m right. I wouldn’t say it’s because she’s sheltered or anything far from it. I think maybe she grew up with rich parents who were the same and never showed her any life skills.
My wife is a doctor (oncology). I am an engineer with a Masters (M.Eng). We BOTH work in Healthcare, but our “intelligence” is just geared differently. The things my wife suggest are just simple and profound, and often times i can’t believe i didn’t think of it first. There is a lot of wisdom in her words. And her words can have dual meaning. She comes across as wise and kind and responsible. People ask her for advice. I’m nothing like that. My words are sharp, pointy, and backed by SQL. They give me A, B, and C, and i’ll extrapolate to F+ with accuracy. I come off as a nutty wizard. I’m here to see the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and future with my crystal ball and Data Warehousing. People ask me to solve a problem. The other day, I built a 12/1 reduction gear out of a block of aluminum but couldn’t get the head light on an old van down enough to register for a single use need. Worked on it for an hour.
The truly fortunate and gifted are well rounded. Good enough at math to function. Often attributed to women, a high “emotional IQ” to be a decent human. And do normal tasks. Like not sit at green lites wondering what the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and pretty colors mean. snork My husband is very book smart, knows lots of things, it takes him at least 20 minutes to load the dishwasher after breakfast or lunch. Different people are faster at different things is part of it, part of it is just practice. Maybe she is completing tasks deliberately with meaningfulness and a high level of completeness and you’re flying around half assing it because you’re not bright enough to realize you’re fucking everything up. Those are different cognitive skills. You might excel at remembering stuff or thinking logically, but managing a household or making plans for a few days ahead requires different kinds of skills that are not “tested” or “practiced” in a lot of schools.
Intelligence usually becomes more specialized/narrow as you go up in IQ, savants & genius tend to be savants & genius’s in 1-2 specific areas, and are mediocre to incompetent in most everything else. Some people are good at rote learning/test taking, but are completely useless when it comes to practical knowledge. Intelligence doesn’t really equate to being fast at daily tasks. I’m rather smart if standardized tests are the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and measuring tool and I am a decently high-earning lawyer, but I was always a bit slow as a dishwasher/waiter/shelf stocker way back in the day. Lots of folks are commenting on the different types of intelligence and that’s definitely a part of it. But one thing that I’ve noticed having gone through the honors classes is that sometimes I feel like I did everything out of order? School always came super easy for me, I didn’t have to work at it, so I was put in the gifted classes. But I think the idea is that because you’re gifted in one area and you can hold a conversation with adults you’re more mature so they assume you know things like time management, social skills, and generally how to be a human being beyond your years, but that’s not always the case. I did really well in school but as an adult I’ve often found that I have to learn or relearn things that feel really basic. I’m not complaining, I enjoyed being in school and I had a great childhood, but there’s a lot of things I wish I had learned that I just didn’t.
Being smart in school is typically done by being good at remember information for tests/exams. Doesn’t really mean they were smart. People tell me I’m really really smart but you wouldn’t know if if you watched me trying to do chores or anything around the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and house. Executive dysfunction is a thing. I have a friend who was well on their way to being an accomplished musician (violin), had to leave that dream behind due to neck injury, and pivoted into medicine. Master’s, residency, all that jazz. Extremely smart person. Meanwhile, I played trumpet for fun in highschool – no aspirations of going pro or anything – and stopped education after my BA because I didn’t want to go into debt for more. (I had a scholarship for my BA.)
This absolutely brilliant person confessed to me one day that they were jealous of my ability to play music by-ear & improv accompaniment. Quite confused I asked them WTF they meant, they had played paid gigs with recognized bands. This friend revealed to me that with all of their musical accomplishments, they could only play by reading sheet music, or from memory when they’d repeated a piece enough times. This same friend also needed my help in reconnecting their sink plug to the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and release plunger, because they had tried for half an hour and couldn’t get it to work right. They kept trying to attach it in the fully “down” position, locking it into a permanent “plugged” position. They were fucking astounded when I fixed it in under 30 seconds without even sticking my head under the sink, going by touch-of-hand.
Some people think faster but it doesn’t mean they come up with better solutions to problems. Your wife may just be a smart woman who just takes her time to consider more options. I grew up in the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and mid 2000’s and went to high school in the early 2010’s. Looking back at my grade school career it’s seems as though a lot of our best teachers were the advanced placements teachers. This in my opinion allowed anyone placed in those classes in a better learning situation regardless of their innate abilities. I took the regular classes until I was a sophomore in high school where I was bumped into remedial classes. Took my one semester to test out of the three years of math I was behind on and another year to catch up on everything else. Most of the classes were just reading out of the text book. Turns out that I just don’t learn well when the teacher is a doofus. Still wish I had a better grasp on English and grammar but what I know seems to suffice. To sum it up I believe that honors, regular and remedial classes aren’t an indicator of intelligence. Often times outside factors or just bad/good luck is to blame.
I find that some people are genuinely good at studying and others aren’t. Also, test anxiety I think is real where you may know a lot of info and when the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and test rolls around you can’t recall and panic sets in a bit which doesn’t help. 576 more repliesI think it is likely that this is much more a matter of personality than it is intelligence, but maybe the traits that tend towards higher academic performance are involved here. I have the same dynamic in my household, but the roles are reversed. My wife is not the more academic type but I am, and when it comes to normal household tasks the outcome is the same; she tends to be faster at them and I tend to be slower. I wonder if this applies in your situation? My observation is that I tend to be a more detail obsessed person, where my wife will speed through things and tends to maybe cut corners a little or miss certain things that I wouldn’t. She’s generally less concerned with making an error than I am. I’m not sure that there’s an objectively better method either. She gets certain things done faster, but occasionally her cut corners lead to rework, where rework is seldom an issue with something I do but it takes me longer.
Just because someone can mimic answers they’ve read from a book on a test doesn’t at all make them smart. It only means they have good memory. My girlfriends cousin has a masters and is one of the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and least intelligent people I’ve ever met. Not only do I have very little concept of time, but the job isn’t done until it’s done perfectly. You’ve likely already finished the job and it’s good enough. I’m still thinking about how to optimally approach the job so that it’s done perfectly with the least amount of work. Also what is time? I have a family member who works as an accountant. They graduated top of their class and could do the work they do in their head. But they aren’t allowed to have a credit card or open access to their spouses account because they can’t balance their own spending to save their life. They can’t apply their skills to real world situations. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. It makes us well rounded She is probably doing things carefully and methodically rather than as fast as possible. Which is also why she was an honors student.
The gifted classes usually do things that are more theoretical. At certain levels of math, they use letters and imaginary numbers and stuff instead. The remedial classes were much more practical. Knowing that there’s 25.4mm in an inch means ½” is between 12mm and 13mm is much more practical than knowing how much force each of your lug studs will experience. Normally the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and really smart people are smart in a specific field and focus their soul on that subject but couldn’t buy a train ticket if their life depended on it, they say it’s close to be autistic or some are, I barely scraped out of high school and I intellectually run circles around her…I guess it’s a domain specificity thing… but damn its frustrating lol
Some people are really good at school and not as good at other things. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. My lovely husband is the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and smartest man I know. His degree is in physics and works in software. Yet, he struggles with the order of the months. We are all just humans. I think this is a mixture of a selection biais and a biais due to different level of expectation. We have high expectations for people with degrees and we very easily target them if they can’t use a loundry machine. On the other hand if your average plumber can’t use a loundry machine we just don’t notice it that much, let alone remember it. Truth is, loundry machines are complicated af and most people struggles with them…. Right? … Book smart street smart. My mom used to tell me of the times she was a student working as an assistant for a bunch of PH.d’s in college years ago. Very smart guys in their fields, but not much common sense among them. She also used to say my handwriting was as good as theirs was. I’m not quite sure that was a compliment though…
Do you mean literally fast, as in, time to complete? I don’t see a connection to smartness and “being slow” is a euphemism, not literal. Did your wife grow up in the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and south? The education is severely lacking down there and they routinely grade people subjectively. People do things differently. Being faster at daily task doesn’t make you smart or a good student. Hell, it doesn’t even mean you’re good at those tasks. Has nothing to do with school. You came from a place with a faster pace of life, time as commodity has a different value than it does in rural areas. I have worked IT in several highly educated, degree required fields: medical, financial, legal, etc. these people have studied their craft for decades, could explain the minutiae of their specialty for hours…who did not understand a computer had to be turned on in order to be used. I’ve had to explain that power is required for certain machines to be used. I’ve had to tell them multiple times we do not know your passwords, we will never know your passwords, we cannot assist you other than resetting that password.
Some people min-max their knowledge. Instead of it being well rounded, it’s hyper focused on intellectual pursuits while ignoring daily practical skills. I was an instructor in a leadership development school in the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and US Army. I found that frequently the students with the highest academic grades could barely pass the hands on tests. And some of the most skilled hands on soldiers got only average grades. Book smarts vs real world smarts are two completely different things. I have seen this over and over. Most of the straight A students in my high school class can barely put gas in a car let alone fix anything around the house, but they can tell you about some obscure thing from history class 30 years ago. Being good at school is not the same as being smart. It’s especially not the same as being “street” or “everyday” smart.
School measures your ability to follow directions and your willingness to work. Not necessarily your intelligence. I went to HS in rural central New York. My 10th grade English class stalled out when the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and teacher was trying to delineate the difference between nouns and verbs. Kids just couldn’t grasp what she was talking about. Definitely some different standards could be at play. Some people are super smart but the menial every day either puzzles them or just simply doesn’t interest them at all so they really suck at it. I dated a woman with a PhD and a few other degrees. She worked as a scientist and couldn’t poor piss out of a boot. Doing things slowly but well usually gets you ahead in school, but the workplace is way more oriented towards fast but half-assed. So sometimes the people who weren’t doing well in school end up champions in the real world. There is a difference between intelligence and education. There is also some people that understand the pareto principle, and some that don’t. Both of these will make a difference in speed. Because there’s different types of intelligence and skills. Being able to achieve at school means nothing in relation to other forms of intelligence. I once had a GF who I knew in highschool and it was almost the same thing she was in honor/AP classes. Long story short I lent her my mower when I was out of town bc hers sucked and at the time I was working out of town for lengthy amounts of time. She called me one day telling me not to be mad at her and that she had gotten into a small fight with the lawn mower. I asked her to elaborate. She then tells me about how the grass shoot was getting blocked off bc of tall overgrown grass and she just thought she could reach down and clear it with her HAND! Luckily she only sliced the tip of her index finger and it was stitched or glued shut. After that I got to thinking about how I absolutely can not share my DNA with her and if I got her pregnant I could possibly expect kids that would not make it to adulthood. I broke it off with her when I came back in town. Took the mower away from her for her safety. I always wondered who the safety stickers where there for…
School is a terrible way to measure intelligence. I fell out of Honors classes in high school because I was going through a pretty rough period of depression, and I realized that quite a few of the Grinch an American tradition USA flag shirt and by the same token and people in my “smart kids” class were genuinely some of the dumbest people I’d ever met. It gave edgy 15-year-old me another reason to feel like it was all pointless, because the highest level classes of my public high school was shared with someone that didn’t know Palm Trees were real. Plus, we all ended up going to the same local colleges anyway. Honors classes in public schools don’t really mean much at all. Conversely I have a friend who was in remedial classes in high school…he is now a welder foe the railroad in a union and makes 6 figures annually. Another guy that was in special Ed is a cop for a neardby small town and a third works in a meat processing plant.
