We still occasionally send each other voice messages these days. Honestly, sometimes it’s just easier and faster to articulate your thoughts by speaking them rather than typing them. I’d rather have someone rant at me about something that happened instead of me reading an essay about it. When I’m working, I can be sending and receiving hundreds of messages a day. If I’m out and about, I have my hands full, or I need to communicate a specific tone that would take more time crafting a text than I actually have, I use voice notes. Plus, not everything NEEDS to be a call. If I was at a restaurant and my phone rang, I’d get up and step outside in order to be considerate of other diners and also to give my friend or colleague the Fundamentals crutch of the talentless shirt besides I will buy this time and attention that they are requesting by making a call. I’ll grant you that they USED to annoy me when I first started receiving them, but after I got used to them I really understand the Fundamentals crutch of the talentless shirt besides I will buy this utility. Easier to voice message while walking. It’s so annoying receiving them though. The whole point of texting for me (or one of the big points) is it makes no noise! I rarely bother to listen to them, but some people are better at expressing themselves when they talk, and some people express themselves better in text. You lose a lot of nuance when you lose the time of voice, and honestly I’d rather they sent me a voice message I could listen to in my own time than interrupted me by calling and making me talk to them. “My brain works this way! How could anyone’s else brain work another way! I just don’t get it!” To paraphrase OP. I love them it’s like getting a little podcast from my mates. I don’t know why people do it for single sentence voice notes, but I love a good ten minute update on my friend’s life. I find them really handy if I’m pushing the pram or walking holding one of my kids hands and I need to send a quick message that doesn’t really need a whole phone call. Like I know if I phone my mum it’ll be 10mins on the phone because she just doesn’t know how to stop talking but I can send her a 2 second voice msg that I dont expect an immediate reply from instead.
