A woman walks home alone at night, a man rapes/kills her. The general consensus is the Fright-Rags Priceless Shirt Besides,I will do this man is in the wrong? No, the woman is at fault for walking home at night. You can’t have it both ways, a woman is bad for ‘stereotyping’ men when it’s a possible real danger but it’s her fault if said man happens to kill her too. I truly wish men would stop taking it personally when women protect themselves from real danger. Please look at all the comments berating women for ‘getting themselves’ murdered before saying silly things like, it’s awful of them to treat men like threats and they shouldn’t do that…. It doesn’t have to be a life and death situation for the generalization to be practical. A guy who is striking up a conversation with another guy at a bar might start talking about things like football, video games, etc. A guy trying to pick up a girl? She might be into video games but any sensible guy sure as hell isn’t going to open with that.

Back to the Fright-Rags Priceless Shirt Besides,I will do this example I used- stereotyping and generalizing are treated like 4 letter words and they’re not. What’s bad is making and using negative generalizations that don’t serve practical purposes “I’ll never hire X person because they are part of Y group” or if you don’t give someone the opportunity to deviate from your perception of that generalization when you have the chance to do so. On that note, back to the example, women who stereotype men who seem to be following them in a precarious situation and take safeguards are not doing anything wrong- stereotypes are useful when you don’t have more information or aren’t in a position to get more. Yo what the hell, this is not the general consensus. It might be the opinion of a messed up minority, but I don’t agree with your characterization of this being how most men react. Interestingly, it seems like most of the books I read where I feel like there is a realistic take on female characters is when they’re written all as just neutral characters and the author goes through afterwards and sometimes almost randomly determines their sexes afterwards. In that way, they are all just treated as people and it makes way more sense when done that way to me. The differences between people are far fewer than our similarities and sometimes we focus on those differences way too often.
