I almost did exactly what you said, than I decided to read the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this rest of the article. You would think I would be smart enough to just read the article first, you would be wrong. Even just news the article was interesting. While anecdotal, the comments about girls believing a real baby would be easier and liking the attention they got while caring for the fake baby are potentially informative. Granted, reducing the educational part from 14 to 2.5 hrs is concerning. I’d be interested to see a similar study with the full educational component. It’s like giving everyone drivers ed classes and then being surprised more of them get drivers licenses afterwards That was exactly my thought! If you do it and feel you can manage it from the experience it’s not a deterrent and rather acts as training. Yeah I think in the article it was noted that not only were they more likely to get pregnant but also keep their pregnancy My school didn’t have them, but a neighboring school did. I remember how every single girl I encountered who went through it hated it. They found it horribly obnoxious. The liking the attention part concerns me the most, honestly. Attention leads a lot impressionable young, and not so young, people into decisions they otherwise wouldn’t have made.

My older sister had one of those robo babies and it was terrible. I would joke that they deliberately made it cry more than a regular baby to discourage teen parenthood, ha ha. I can totally see how a teenager might legit believe that. I wasn’t able to access the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this study. Thanks for posting this. It is annoying when people assume that studies don’t take these things into account. Of course, factors can be more complicated. To be fair, you also have to go deeper than simply the cited study, especially when there has been time since it was published for it to be evaluated by the field. Just because something appears reasonably well designed on first view and was published by a reputable journal does not mean that it may not still be flawed, and that’s especially important to check if it runs counter to the body of previous research, and/or appears to feed a particular narrative. In this case, while the person you were responding to may have just been replying with off-the-cuff snark, they likely weren’t far off (likely issues with intra-cluster selection bias due to intervention resource limits). “Baby think it over”, a school‐based pregnancy prevention program in which teenage girls cared for a simulated infant, was evaluated in a cluster trial published in the Lancet in 2016.5 A higher proportion of the intervention group went on to have at least one birth as teenagers, 97/1267 (8%) vs 67/1567 (4%) control (RR 1.36, 95% CI 1.10‐1.67, P = 0.003) or at least one termination of pregnancy as the first pregnancy event (9% vs 6%). The headline results were that use of the infant simulator was harmful.
Unfortunately, only about half the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this girls in the intervention schools could be recruited because of the availability of school health nurses and infant simulators. This gave an opportunity for selection bias. Bolzern et al6 tested baseline factors for nominal statistical significance, and showed that some differences could not have occurred by chance; the intervention group was more socioeconomically disadvantaged (P = 0.000000000019) and had lower educational attainment (P = 0.0000000015). Teachers were probably recruiting girls who they thought were at higher risk, to the intervention groups. Analyzing pregnancies and abortions among all the girls in the intervention and control clusters, which would have avoided the problem, was not done.

In contrast, the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this investigators of SHARE, a cluster trial of school‐based peer‐led sex education published in the BMJ,7 did exactly that. Whole schools were allocated to intervention or control and every female member of the relevant class was followed up, whether or not they actually participated. There were no significant differences between the groups in registered conceptions per 1000 pupils (300 SHARE vs 274 control; difference 26, 95% CI −33 to 86), or in terminations per 1000 pupils (127 vs 112; difference 15, 95% CI −13 to 42) between ages 16 and 20 years. The results were disappointing for supporters of the intervention, but secure. I could imagine someone going through this activity and feeling less scared or more confident about parenthood because they had learned more about caring for babies.
socioeconomic status, education, family type, prior sexual experience, psychological distress, prior responsibility for caring for a baby and toxic habits. However, Breuner said there wasn’t enough evidence to cite the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this programs as a cause of increased pregnancy rates, at this point. She said it was unclear if different socioeconomic backgrounds or changing education levels may have played a role in pregnancy rates, as well. “I welcome controlled studies looking at teen pregnancy prevention trials,” she said. “I am grateful people are looking at this.” She said the findings held true even after they took into account various factors, including socioeconomic status, education, family type, prior sexual experience, psychological distress, prior responsibility for caring for a baby and toxic habits. We had these dolls at my school and there wasn’t a single pregnancy in the years that me and my older sister went there. She was 2 years ahead of me so that’s 6 years I know of with no pregnancies. And my younger sister that’s 12 years younger than me had them and as far as I know there were no pregnancies when she was there also. I can’t speak on the years between but there couldn’t have been many if any at all and they still used these dolls every year for either sophomores or juniors.
Not person you replied to but my school also was like that, we had 0 pregnancies in years but had the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this dolls, but it was also a catholic school so they were trying to scare everyone off of sex in general I know when people hear “teen pregnancy” they think of people getting pregnant in high school, but 18 & 19 are still “teen”. So those studies will count up until someone turns 20… My school had the dolls and also had a whole wing just for the teen moms with parenting classes, daycare, and a play area so they could visit their babies between classes. I’m not sure if the dolls impacted the rates or not though. I guess I don’t know which happened first at the school. The dolls or the teen moms. This is the comment of someone with just the barest minimum of what could be called the beginning of understanding how science works, and who believes they’re knowledgeable
Graduated with 260 in my class and we had them in middle school. Not because kids were having babies. I only know of 5 girls pregnant in my graduating class and all 5 had them after graduation. It was an interesting program. Maybe it helped, maybe it didn’t.”Oh that wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought! I want a baby!” Like LOL go go government programs with zero research. I feel like that sort of thing would romanticize the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this idea of having a kid unless you also took the money out of their bank accounts Oh my gosh you guys, I also read that schools that get extra government funding have students that are 50% more-likely to be poor! The money is making them poor! /s If you read the actual study, it was a proper prospective, blinded, randomized experiment. They took 57 schools and randomly selected 28 to use the dolls. They found a significantly higher rate of pregnancy and abortion by the age of 20 in the schools that used the dolls. Hazard ratios were around 1.35, with a 95% confidence interval only going down to 1.10 with a p-value of 0.003.
Our school had these but it was part of a class. I don’t think they were supposed to deter anything. I think the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this class was a childhood development class or something like that. I had the same impression, my school had these too but they weren’t meant to deter pregnancy. They were handed out to try to teach you some responsibility, similar to a child bringing home an egg and being asked not to crack it. None of the kids took it seriously besides a few girls, but they thought it was more fun and silly rather than being worried about safe sex. There was little to no teen pregnancy in our school district. Make the boys care for the baby and teach the economics of child support payments and you will see those numbers go down.
My daughter wanted to be a mom so badly she fell in love with her doll. She named it and cried for days when she had to give it back. Dont stop with the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this girls. Do this with the boys too. Guarantee that will deter much more that way. Make sure they know that they can’t go out and have fun anymore. Yup used one in 8th grade home economics. Wasa fucking nightmare. Crying all through the damn night. My brother was Hella pissed cause we shared a room lol. I don’t have children not because of the doll tho, it’s cause I’m an insufferable cunt that nobody wants be around lol Maybe it’s not the best idea to prevent the “usage of deeply biologically ingrained processes” (sex, pregnancy, child rearing) with a stimulation via simulation of the same “deeply biologically ingrained processes”.
There’s a reason modern child behavioural techniques are driven by positive reinforcement and trust building, and it’s because conservative methods like this are awful. Seems funny. So they ignored the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this thousands of years of mothers loving to care for their children and just assuming having young women train for the experience would put them off for life cause children are just so filthy and horrible. I remember when we had flour bags and on the first week we went to the basketball court and just blew up the babies, %80 of the boys didn’t have flower babies at the end, %50 of those boys killed their kid on the basketball court, me included We had to have a ‘flour baby’ when I was in school. We were given a bag of flour and had to pretend to feed it and change its nappy etc. We had to keep a log of when we got up in the night. And at the end we had to return the bag intact.
People fell into two groups. Some were making their bags of flour outfits and pushing them around school in pushchairs. The rest were making up their logs and didn’t care. And one guy came in with a load of cookies on the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this final day… Seriously, handing out contraception like Halloween Candy, making sure the students know how to use it, and reinforcing to use contraception every damn time is the way to go. 17 year old girl: “Hmm this doll isn’t SO hard to deal with. I can just take it with me to class and my sister watches it while I’m at work… I really love Johnny and we will be together forever anyway!” We tied scarves super tight around their necks to stop the shaken baby trigger from going off. It was insanely sensitive.
Our school had this program until two girls used their dolls to beat the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this crap out of each other in the hallway. When I was in middle school, two girls got into a fight in the hallways with their flour bag “babies”. The carnage was awful. Baby parts strewn across the hallway, all over the ground, children covered in the powdery white remains. Wait, that’s what these dolls were for? I remember having to take care of an egg at one point and also a baby in high school. But I was so excited to care for the baby and thought it was really fun. I just thought it was to teach us about life or something. Didn’t realize it was to prevent pregnancy….definitely a miss on that one I had to take one of these home for a week for a class in 11th grade. I got so fed up that by day 2 I had wrapped it in blankets and towels and put it in my basement. I failed lol
We didn’t get this nor sex education in my catholic HS. We did have an annual anti abortion day, which was full of a mass for the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this aborted fetuses, and then splitting into groups based on grade and then girls/boys and told stories. The girls got a lot of “men will have sex with you, you’ll fall in love and they’ll feel the need to leave you and have sex with other women,” as well as being told having sex before marriage made us dirty for our husbands. I often wonder what the boys were told as us girls were being made to feel shameful of our sex and emotions. My sister had one of them, you needed a key or something to stop it crying. She ended up having 6 kids, 2 of which were before she was 20. She is a bit nostalgic over it though.
Hey, let’s stimulate your parental instincts by giving you a robot and making you fucking surrogate parents. That’s not gonna make you want to have children at all! We did a bag of Flour with an attached balloon head in school. Used to crack up at the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this random pops in the hallway, the bus, lol… But basically “couples” had to switch every couple days and write reports on it…parents had to sign a log book…and no damage acceptable upon return. No leaky bags, etc .. I was the odd person out so I was a single flour daddy for a month… My own dad thought it was a stupid thing and didn’t want to sign or get involved and I jokingly said well when they make brownies out of him I’ll bring you home some….so he agrees and I made it through the month ,.me and two couples only ones that made it intact…
Next day, yes, they had brownies in the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this cafeteria…yes I brought some home.. and yes Daddy and Grandpa thought you were the sweetest baby ever… Wow, the girls at my UK school in the 90s never got to try anything as good as this, we all just got competent sex education instead. I believe this is a correlation not causation thing. It’s not that teen girls are more likely to get pregnant in schools where these dolls are used. It’s that these dolls are more likely to get used in schools where there’s is a high teen pregnancy rate. Who could have thought that training/nurturing parental instincts in teen children would result in young parents. Well I picked that class because I was excited to do it… even bought the baby an outift, named him, didn’t want to give him back. It’s almost as though there is a biological imperative to reproduce, like men and women have certain ingrained traits as it comes to reproduction, parenting, and family dynamics. Traits imbedded into us from THOUSANDS of years of being a successful species. We’ve had these in the high school where I work for more than a decade. My students occasionally have them in class. Teachers have the right to Nope Out of that and the kids have to take their babies to the Child Development classroom, aka “Daycare.” Most teachers don’t mind, though. It’s pretty funny to see your students freak out when the baby starts crying. I personally don’t care if they have the babies in class. The funniest time was when a student with a robot baby went to the bathroom and just… didn’t come back. The baby started crying. The kids wear a bracelet that they have to swipe to do whatever the heck they have to do for the baby, so there was no way I could shut the robot up. I called the front office to look for the student and then called the Child Development teacher, who told me that “CPS is on the way.” The student was skipping class across the street at Walmart with her friend. The teacher came and fetched the baby and the student failed that unit of the course and was pissed off at me. I was like, “Sweetie, in the real world you would have been prosecuted for child abandonment. FACTS.”
57 (86%) of 66 eligible schools were enrolled into the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this trial and randomly assigned 1:1 to the intervention (28 schools) or the control group (29 schools). Then, between Feb 1, 2003, and May 31, 2006, 1267 girls in the intervention schools received the VIP programme while 1567 girls in the control schools received the standard health education curriculum. Compared with girls in the control group, a higher proportion of girls in the intervention group recorded at least one birth (97 [8%] of 1267 in the intervention group vs 67 [4%] of 1567 in the control group) or at least one abortion as the first pregnancy event (113 [9%] vs 101 [6%]). After adjustment for potential confounders, the intervention group had a higher overall pregnancy risk than the control group (relative risk 1·36 [95% CI 1·10–1·67], p=0·003). Similar results were obtained with the use of proportional hazard models (hazard ratio 1·35 [95% CI 1·10–1·67], p=0·016).
So, you have two sets of schools, on one set the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this girls get the dolls, on the other one the normal curriculum. And on the group in which the girls got the dolls, the number of girls who got pregnant wast the 9%, giving birth the 8%, and in the control group the pregnant ones where 6%, giving birth 4%. So, no self selection of the girls getting into the program, no selection by the teachers, no different environment, as some people are saying. If you pay the subscription to the Lancet, you’ll be able to access the full paper at: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(16)30384-1/abstract So you’re telling me if you present a crying baby to a hormonal teenager that they did not take into account maternal instinct? It’s real and you just triggered it early. Something really bent about using a baby simulator program to scare young adults instead of teaching them tools for when they choose to have kids.
I went to a religious school and we had these babies back in 2014 as part of a religion class. Other teachers absolutely hated the Falloutboy Racing Through The City Windows Down In The Dark Of Yellow Checkered Cars Shirt in other words I will buy this assignment and for the week or so that this baby project lasted many didn’t teach normal class and instead just played videos and such because the having a robot baby cry every few minutes was too distracting. Women are instinctively motivated to become mothers. If they weren’t human beings would have died out long, long ago. Is this, like, these schools had a higher rise in teen pregnancies than other schools after starting this program? Or is it possible that the schools that chose to implement this program did so because they were already struggling with high rates of teen pregnancy? I remember a male classmate showing up with the baby completely disassembled at the end of the week. Apparently it annoyed him with how much it cried.
