I live next door to my property and spend a lot of time there. I carefully run quality checks before each guest checks in. While I think staying in a place definitely helps, a lot of it just comes down to the mentality of the host. Many hosts try to cut corners and go with the cheapest possible stuff and skimp on things. Others value guest experience and think about what it’s like to actually use a place and consider it an investment in a well run rental. I’m the latter.

That said, some items like pots and pans and knives are impossible to keep nice. I won’t buy a “good set” because they’ll get destroyed within a week. You’d be shocked at how hard most guests are on stuff like that. I always wonder if they actually treat their own stuff like they do in an Airbnb or if they just don’t care since it’s a rental. We buy new pot/pan and knife sets every year and they still get absolutely destroyed pretty quickly.
