67 more repliesI got called up last year and it was pretty boring unfortunately. The first day didn’t get called for a trial so ended up going home an hour or so early. Second day, about 12 of us were called up but then they only needed 8 or 10 so we went back in to the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this big hall where everyone waits. After lunch sat around for a few hours and then was told we were no longer needed for that week and to go home so finished early again. The second week I went in on the Monday and after an hour or so everyone was told that if your name wasn’t called for a trial you weren’t needed for the week and could return back to work. My name wasn’t called so I went home and was back in work the following day. I knew a woman who had served on a jury in a notorious murder case. I asked her afterwards what it was like. It had been a painful experience for her and she didn’t want to talk about it. All she would say was: “It’s a hard thing to send a kid away for life even when you know he’s guilty.”

Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt description

Found it frustrating. Was on a trial where the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this defendent was accused of inappropriate touching of a minor he employed. Everyone bar me went not guilty, not because they thought he didn’t do it but because the prosecution hadn’t “proved it conclusively”. A few years later he was in the paper, was sent down for possession of child pornography, abuse of a minor. I found it really interesting. Took oodles of notes because that’s my style. Everything significant was summed up or repeated so doubt your hearing aid would be a significant barrier. My entire experience went as far as spending 4 days in a waiting room, before being told to go home after dinner. A friend of mine was on the jury of a very long and boring fraud case, with multiple defendants. I’m probably not remembering it correctly, but something is ringing a bell about him being on jury duty for 7 months, but there was loads of waiting around and days where he’d need to be at court but not used.
I was 40 when I got called up for the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this first time…. I absolutely loved the experience, but it took a lot out of me emotionally, which I didn’t realise until after. Embrace the situation…. You could have the most boring/mundane of cases, or you could end up like mine and have a 4 week rollercoaster. I did two weeks, many years ago. I really enjoyed being away from my retail job at the time. Saw three cases with eight days in court, and read quite a lot of my book in between! We had a couple of moments straight out of a TV drama, where the victim says how much wine she’d had that night and the next day her partner quoted it verbatim. It was so obvious they’d agreed what to say, then there was an outburst from him which we were told to ignore, but it was clear to us that they were setting up the accused. Despite this, he was found guilty, since he admitted doing the thing even though he was led on. Other cases were a traffic one which was quite routine, and an assault one that got ceased after the first days witnesses and such, I think the guy changed his plea or something? Can’t recall!

Mine was an interesting one! I got to do it I think 3 years ago now (was like 21 and most definitely the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this youngest fucker there). We got in the post a letter saying one of the trials may be particularly long as opposed to the usual 2 week thing. Said specify if this is an issue etc etc. At the time I was on a 6 month work contract and didn’t mind either way, not that I would be able to opt in or anything regardless. Well, as luck would have it I was drawn for that case! It was a double kidnapping split into 2 trial groups (there were like 8 different people on trial or so, and we had 4 of them, the main perpetrators) everyone was 16-18 in our group of 4, as it was kids that kidnapped their ‘friend’ twice over the course of a year, holding him captive and beating him up over weed money (allegedly).
We found all but one guilty, for both kidnappings. One we only found guilty for one, as the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this evidence for the second was sketchy cctv that literally could have been anyone as it was only hair to judge them by which was too ambiguous. Our group of jurors for the case were deemed ‘abnormal’ by the people we had interactions with (I think the chairman? Was the one who came and got us from the jurors little room we sat in together) he said we were wayyy more talkative and chatty than any other jury group he’d seen as everyone was just casually hanging out whenever waiting. People shared snacks, all went out for biryani at lunch together etc. Was fun to be around them. I won’t lie, I 100% fell asleep in the court multiple times lol. Luckily, it was all incredibly dull boring stuff that was lamented over and (in everyone’s opinion) wholly unnecessary information. They essentially on Google maps walked the street view down a road that was driven down when providing context for people on locations. The locations of people were never disputed, and later covered through cctv making the many hours of slow cctv waddling via Google maps entirely redundant. Great nap though. Nobody called me out on it despite probably being able to notice. Having said this, your fellow jurors usually are all given paper/pens for notes and a folder that you can review with necessary details in it for later on to re-read when making decisions.
All in all, this took like 3-4 months and I ended up not returning back to my work placement as it went past the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this end. Meant I didn’t get a job offer but hey, interesting story to share now. I was called up for jury service during lockdown. Instead of the jurors coming in to court and waiting around to be selected for a case, they asked the jurors to wait at home and wait for a phone call if we are selected for a case, and only come in if we get a phone call. I never received any phone call so never actually served as a juror. Four days into my two week jury service, they thanked me for my service and I was discharged. A really really nasty child abuse case where the dad was doing his daughters and sharing them. The details were horribly graphic and I wish I hadn’t been picked. One tip that we found useful during the trial was that if a juror had a genuine question or wanted something clarifying you could write a note and it would be passed to the judge.
Rock up, sign in, stand about in a corridor for 2 hours, go into courtroom, get told they are talking about legal issues so come back at 1pm. Get back at 1pm, stand about for another 2 hours. Get called in to the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this courtroom, judge says thank you for your important service and dismissed us all. Day 3 they said don’t bother coming in but you need to be ready if we need you. So I sat around doing nothing at home. I was on a jury for a domestic abuse case around 2018ish. The experience itself was really interesting, but the case was a bit harrowing. The defendant was quite possibly the stupidest man I’ve ever seen – a major component of the prosecution’s evidence were videos he filmed himself of his extremely distressed teenage girlfriend (he was in his 30s) trying to get herself and their baby out of a locked house while he monologued about how “crazy” she was and how he was filming her to report to social services. I won’t go into the details, but her condition made it clear they were filmed immediately following attacks on her person. From what I could tell, social services had been involved since the baby was born, but the mum really was trying her best. There was an incident involving the baby’s safety relayed in evidence from a social worker but it really stuck with me that when asked “Well what was Mum doing then, if this was such a dangerous situation?” by the defense lawyer, the social worker replied “She was the one who phoned us. She was beside me the whole time, telling him she would do go with him and do whatever he wanted but please just give the baby to me so he could be taken somewhere warm and dry”. Broke my fucking heart honestly.
Was summoned for jury duty in Scotland (UK)….. phoned up given number in letter if I needed assistance with anything and told them I won’t be attending because of travel issues they said they would reimburse every penny I told them that’s not the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this issue but the fact that I live in South Wales (UK) they said sorry we’ll update the system and won’t bother you again Take a book, a crossword, an audiobook, your phone fully charged. I sat for 3 1/2 days in a holding room just to get sent home. If you get a trial there’s still lots of waiting. Look up somewhere nice to go for lunch as you get approx. £7.50/day to eat. If you get public transport there save your tickets and get a form to claim them back.
Check your bag and look up what you are and aren’t allowed to take in. I got my pencil sharpener confiscated as a bladed article. No advice on actual trial as didn’t get that far, they only had 12 week trials and work asked me to try and put them off (work is not a get out for jury service but they went with the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this people that were more easily available). I wish I did though. The final one was handling stolen goods. The defendant swore at the judge and asked if he was “fucking stupid”. He was a really charming fellow, but quite entertaining. Overall there’s a lot of sitting around and waiting for things to happen. There is lots of talking that could be consolidated into 10 minutes from 1hr + from all the lawyers/judges etc. It’s pretty boring, but did get me out of work for 2 weeks, which was nice.
Except the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this guy was let off because 4 jurors believed that as he swore on the bible/ under oath he couldn’t possibly be lying. Be prepared to argue with fellow jurors who think they understand the law because they’ve watched TV shows. We had very long discussions about what Reasonable Doubt meant and how in our case it really it was just one person’s word against another as we had no evidence (rape case). It was quite depressing, because as a woman I wanted to convict a rapist, but we really didn’t have enough to go on to do so. But otherwise, the experience was interesting and worthwhile. I got called up once. Got a letter saying trial could last up to 8 weeks so managed to get 8 weeks paid leave. Then I got a letter saying they already had enough people and I wasn’t required which was kind of a shame Did mine just after 21st birthday 20 years ago. Lots of scummy bastards on trial, many scummy judgmental jurors (he looks like he did it, probably did it) incapable of digesting the information provided.
I got called up last year. I don’t know if I was lucky a mild annoyance but I was called a bit after my 19th birthday and proceeded to not get called for any of the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this cases. Went in, had my free breakfast, watched Jeremy Kyle for half an hour then got sent home unpicked. Until about 5 days in, I got picked, I was a very excited to be chosen. Was quite a boring case, it carried over to the next day and I had to resign because I’d ended up at a party with the defendants. I had visited the magistrates when in secondary school for observation of the legal system and I found that interesting. The first day as mentioned by other commenters is a whole load of sitting around, picking people out and it can be pretty tedious, they used to be arsey about having phones but hope that’s passed now, I managed to make do with a DS and a couple of books.
The cases are interesting, but they can be pretty intense and you really have no indication how bad it’s going to be until you’re actually called in. My very first case was centred around a child rape, having to watch the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this girls therapy sessions was absolutely heartbreaking. It did impact me at the time but I’m glad I was a part of that process in the end, it felt like we were helping and it gave me a good dose of reality at such a formative stage of my adult life. However I still occasionally think back at the way the mother of the defendant wailed when we gave our verdict, honestly even though we were 100% certain he was guilty it really made you question things – so do be prepared to live with doubts.
2nd case was a battery, which was like the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this most comical thing ever as it was caught on camera and the defendant was so chavvy and proud of herself for being in and out of prison, I felt sorry for the guy defending her… But it did make up for the previous case in terms of bringing a bit more light to the ordeal. 3rd was a teacher/student molestation case… That one was weird and made me very sceptical about just believing the victim immediately, that was a very in depth case and provided a look at how good a defence can be when they’re truly innocent. I’m that rare beast that’s done it twice. First time was pub brawls and minor drugs cases. Second time was an under age girl raped by a stranger. The process is interesting but be prepared to carry some trauma afterwards. I did a low level drugs import case about ten years ago. Getting ketamine through the post, and somehow the police had intercepted it, posed as the postman and then nicked the guy as he signed for the package. Pretty much an open and shut case based on the judge’s directions on the law concerned. What I found really powerful was the absolute seriousness that all the jury treated it with. We deliberated for a day and a half as we weren’t unanimous. The foreman was brilliant in managing the discussion. I hope that if I’m ever in the dock I’d get the same consideration.
Prior to that I’d waited about 4 days, so was nearly half way through the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this second week when my next case began. Within 15 minutes of being sworn in, one of the jurors complained that some scrote in the pubic gallery was giving them the evil eye and we were all discharged, and that was me done. Loved it, to a degree, murder case, killed the other parent in front of their baby son. Was big news in 2011 in the area it happened. Longest 2 weeks of my life when I did it about 15 years ago. No smartphones or wifi so managed some old studying from course books and did some reading by that soon felt like too much work. Got selected for 15 on the Friday of the first week but not the final 12 and only got my other case the Tuesday after. The second case only lasted a few days, made us wonder why it got to court as it was pretty much he said, she said evidence and we spent longer it seemed arguing with one other juror that she had a funny feeling about the accused.
That’s all very good but she couldn’t get it into her head that we can’t convict someone because you felt a bit off about him! For me there was a lot of waiting around and even more shuffling around, someone in my same jury duty block was waiting in the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this courthouse for 5 days before actually being selected on a case, so be prepped for that possibility with a good book or something similar. Same goes for mental prep as of the details might be grim. Look after yourself and that includes bringing food and snacks. The food at mine wasn’t awful, but it was by no means good either and that was at The Old Bailey. Also my god the number of times we got called into the court room just to be told the printer wasn’t working and we’d have to wait a while was absurd. Mountains upon mountains of red tape and protocol. I swear I went up and down in that lift so many times I got altitude sickness.
Also when it comes for the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this time to deliberate, what might happen is that as soon as you all get into the deliberating room, some well meaning member will say something like “right so who thinks they’re guilty?” and call for a hands up vote or something. DON’T let people vote this way, because without meaning to, people can get entrenched in the way they first voted in front of everyone else and can be reluctant to change their minds. If you need a unanimous vote it’ll be that much harder to sway them one way or the other. Also with regards to your hearing aid, don’t be afraid take notes. I’m sure other jurors will help with that and the court staff will give assistance to whoever needs it. Finally do follow the instructions of the court staff, don’t talk about the case to anyone else and try to get along with your fellow jurors. You might be with them a while. Luckily I had a decent group ranging from 18 all the way to people in their sixties. If you approach it with an open mind, you can develop quite the camaraderie through what is quite a novel experience.
I did coroners court jury service, which is a bit different, where there is some question over the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this circumstances of the death. We had two cases and both were very sad, a contractor killed at work and an old man who died from medicine given by his GP. It was a smaller group, and there was no waiting around. It was all very interesting though and I’d happily do it again. My mum was on one for a few weeks, a policeman accused of rape in his car, and it was very upsetting although she was glad to have contributed. I am 64 and have never been called for jury duty. I know a couple of people that have been called twice. I have no criminal record. What did I do? Do it for sure,i got called 9 years ago at 27, it was great, was home by lunchtime the first week everyday due to not having a case, got a case on the monday the next week,a rape case which was really open and shut, the accused chap was completely innocent but it went on for a week and a half, maybe 3 full days at court in total over 8 days, lunch and travel paid for, so essentially if you would like a couple of weeks of basically paid holiday,go do it and its a learning curve in life too, getting 12 completely different people to agree one outcome is most definately interesting but feels like a game of cluedo also
In self employed, I’d hate to have to do jury duty as I would lose too much money (that would be my main reason for getting out of it) I was called on the Donald Trump And Elon Musk Make Detroit Great Again Ugly Christmas Sweater 2024 shirt Apart from…,I will love this first trial of the day on my first day and it turned out to be a four week long, rather technical fraud trial. While there were a couple of days boredom while legal arguments were discussed and we had to go out, the rest was really quite enjoyable. I got elected as chair, and had the very enjoyable privilege of declaring an obviously innocent guy not guilty and an obviously guilty as sin chap guilty. I have never been so cross in my life. In my 2 weeks I was on the jury 3 times. Twice we ended up in massive deadlocked arguments due to some of the jury people being complete illogical arseholes. I enjoyed my experience a hell of a lot more than the group who was picked for a child trafficking case estimated to take minimum 12 weeks though. They were traumatised from watching/hearing the evidence. There was also one police officer who was not picked for a jury even once, so he started to bring a pillow with him and spent 2 weeks sleeping in the waiting room. Oh, let’s not forget the guy who wanted out of the selection process and so came in dressed as a pirate (eyepatch too) and was going up and down the corridors on a skateboard for 2 days. After that I didn’t see him again, so probably successful.
