I was listening to a podcast about this the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this other day and the lengths the operational people had to go to get the issue fixed were insane. The BuOrd people blamed everything on operator error even as it cost lives in combat One of the hosts is a former nuclear submarine skipper and the other is the director of the Pacific war museum. One of my favorite podcasts and a huge time sink if you’re a history nerd There were a bunch of instances where bombs would hit the water and bounce over ships into the sea or hit the ship, but tear through at an angle and again fall into the sea. So there were other explanations for the lack of explosions. There is video of the fighting in San Carlos Bay and it’s….chaotic to say the least. As another person explains below you have plenty of instances of bombs bouncing around (keep in mind Argentinian pilots were being shot at from multiple directions and trying to evade fire) so it was hard to tell how effective the bombs were.

Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt: Show Your Love with Style

The BBC was not a shining example of journalism during the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this falklands conflict. Their criticism around the sinking of the Belgrano was tone deaf to say the least. The Royal Navy declared an exclusion zone around the Falkland Islands, the Belgrano was outside this zone when it was sunk. For some reason, people seem to treat the exclusion zone as if it was a declaration that the war would only be prosecuted inside it, and that any Argentine ship which left it would be safe. What it was actually was a warning to neutral shipping that anything inside the zone would be sunk first with questions asked later, whilst HM government was clear that any positively identified Argentine vessel would be attacked anywhere in the South Atlantic. The naivety of thinking the Navy would have a declared combat zone “Come to us when you’re ready to attack, we won’t fight you outside of this area.”
Their reporting on the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this Hillsborough disaster was probably the start of when they became widely despised. Although they’re still in print despite print journalism being a dying format. So they must have some loyal readers still. Argentina and even the captain of the Belgrano said it was a legit target and sinking. In fact the Belgrano captain said he would have done the same.. The RN was fearing a pincher movement at the eastern end of the exclusion zone. Had the Argy aircraft carrier not turned back iirc it would have been sunk as well. After the Belgrano sinking the Argentina navy stayed in port. Don’t get foolish though, the RN suffered some heavy losses in the war as well. Exocets fired from Super Es were extremely effective. The battle at sea and air weren’t conscripts sitting in foxholes outside of Stanley.. but rather extremely well trained professionals. The US and British trained the officer corps and the bulk of the navy was ex USA and British ships. It also showed how quickly Britain could still mobilise in time of war. The task force started sailing within 36 hours from Britain. Ships called up from trade aka the merchant fleet (Canberra and QE2 for example) were boarded by RN members and conversions started almost immediately. Canberra was no expect to survive the trip into San Carlos bay and its civilian staff was told to write their wills the day before. Somehow it wasn’t hit because the argy pilots thought it was a hospital ship.

How I can buy this Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt

Treason, like most crimes, requires intent. This was just incompetence and carelessness at multiple levels. The journalists shouldn’t have reported it – but they also shouldn’t have had access to the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this information in the first place. On the US side, there’s also the story of the Mark 14 Torpedo, which had many glaring design flaws for years after launch, but the designers refused to acknowledge any of those flaws and insisted it was user error. It was better to make alcohol with torpedo fuel than use it as an actual torpedo For comparison, there was a rumor that “Japan could never build a torpedo better than ours” and regularly stayed within range of Japanese torpedoes without any zig-zag maneuvers.
Japanese torpedoes were in fact the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this most advanced (albeit also secretive) torpedoes of the war. They were oxygen propelled; extreme endurance (2-3 longer range than contemporary US torps) and were extremely hard to spot, as they produced less bubbles in their trail. This caused one of the worst naval defeats of the US Navy where 1 Heavy Cruiser was sunk and 3 were badly damaged for the cost of 1 IJN destroyer sunk. Despite US firing their torpedoes first, the combination of extreme range and the core flaws of the Mk 15 torpedo meant their salvo missed/ran out of fuel. The Japanese fleet returned fire with a salvo of Type 93 torpedoes. The cruisers continued sailing in a straight line (remember, extreme range = supposedly safe from torpedoes) and even continued after the first ship was torpedoed. Only USS Honolulu maneuvered and survived without taking a hit
On 15 September 15, 1942, while patrolling south of the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this Solomon Islands during the Guadalcanal campaign, I-19 sighted and attacked the American aircraft carrier USS Wasp, which was part of a task force transporting the 7th Marine Regiment and stores to Guadalcanal. Kinashi penetrated the destroyer screen, and after closing to within 500 meters (550 yd) of the aircraft carrier, launched his full salvo of six torpedoes. Three torpedoes struck Wasp, starting uncontrollable fires which soon forced the abandonment of the ship, which subsequently sank. The remaining three torpedoes continued beyond the horizon for another 12 nautical miles (22 km; 14 mi) into a separate task force centered around the aircraft carrier USS Hornet, striking the battleship USS North Carolina and destroyer O’Brien[5] O’Brien sank several weeks later[6] and North Carolina was so severely damaged that she was out of action for several months for repairs.
That is with one spread of 6 torpedoes, they sunk a fleet carrier, a destroyer, and severely damaged a battleship, the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this latter two targets being hit at a range of over 14 miles I’d argue that the most effective Allied spread was also fired by the Japanese. During the battle of Sunda Strait the Mogami fired a spread of 6 torpedoes at USS Houston, missed, and TKed four Japanese transports and a minesweeper. The Navy never seemed to fully appreciate the range and power of these torpedoes until it’s almost over. Spruance almost gets New Jersey tagged with a torpedo on the Truk raid because he desires a surface action and doesn’t appreciate that he is in range of this weapon almost from the second she starts firing. The wiki section goes on to say he was generally appreciated by the military so he must’ve been doing something right
The incident would not overshadow May’s considerable contributions to the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this war effort as Chairman of Military Affairs. In a 1945 letter to Congressman May, Admiral Richard E. Byrd, Commander in Chief of the United States Fleet wrote: “Everyone in general appreciates the superb job you have done for your country in connection with Army legislation, and Naval officers appreciate in particular the cooperation you have given the Navy.” He was the chairman of a committee wholly relevant to them, so yeah, they had good reason to suck up to him lol Well, that quote seems to be disinformation, because Admital Byrd was never CinC of ANY fleet. In WW2 he was a special advisor and coordinated advance recon flights. It’s possible RADM Byrd did send such a letter, but for an explorer-hero like Byrd, it’s likely just another letter in the game.
And their torpedos didn’t work for the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this first few years of the war with the Navy turning a blind eye and blaming it on operator error. The users would literally report that their torpedoes weren’t working and the response they were getting from their commanders was “try learning to aim dumbass.” I recently bought that still in the box on ebay. I had fond memories trying to figure out submarine controls with my 5 year old smooth brain all those years ago. The nes noises are ingrained in my brain forever. You may enjoy the PC game Silent Hunter, specifically Silent Hunter III. It’s old and needs some tweaking plus mods but simulates a lot. You need to gauge distance, depth of hull, speed of target and even then it might be a dud torpedo. It’s pretty immersive as you try to evade a destroyer circling above dropping depth charges.
I haven’t played Silent Hunter, but I’ve watched gameplay on YouTube and it’s much different from what I can tell. I have played cold waters, and from what I’ve seen Silent Hunter is much more of a simulator whereas cold waters is a lot more arcadey. You don’t have any crew management or resource management in CW besides ammo and damage, and since the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this modern torpedos are wired you don’t need to manage your approach angles in the same way. Silent Hunter, from what I’ve seen, full simulation so you need to manage everything about your sub. If you’re curious, Wolfpack345 on YouTube has a video series on Silent Hunter3 (I think) that I enjoy. It’ll give you a good idea of the gameplay My father bought this for our NES. I remember playing it with him but also getting to input my initials for the score board in Morse code. He passed in a vehicle accident later that same year. When I was a few years older I sold that NES and 40-50 games to be able to buy the SNES. But I didn’t sell Silent Service. It was the only game he and I spent time on. It’s still sitting in my desk drawer and I wouldn’t sell it for the world.
My brother was a big fan of those submarine games. I also remember playing 688 Attack Sub and Seawolf (aka SSN-21 Seawolf) Subs were absolutely just meta for so long. It makes me sad when games refuse to acknowledge how fucking OP subs were when they “balance” them. Foxhole has the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this worst submarines by far. On release you could gas the crew from outside, while the sub was submerged. My favorite part of subs in WoW is that you can only stay underwater for a matter of minutes. I get it, subs have to surface eventually, but the difficulty of using subs is not balanced out by the possibility of big rewards. I mean, they might still be. There haven’t been many postwar conflicts involving submarines, so we don’t have much (public) info. As a usn submariner, I can confidently tell you that submarines are in fact ridiculously OP, I would argue even more so than ever Yea, in a single sentence. The argument in my head mostly is about how quiet and fast submarines are, and how good we are at finding enemy submarines without being found ourselves, and obviously we are the most important part of the nuclear triad. If you’re only talking about ssns, though, then a single seawolf or Virginia can still destroy an entire enemy strike group single handedly without being found Not to mention the effectiveness of torpedoes is an order of magnitude better today. I don’t think any surface ship could survive a proper hit from a torpedo detonating under the keel.
Why is the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this navy the most important part of the triad? It seems to me the missiles in montana etc are the best placed because it’s harder to get close enough to destroy them, so any attack gives you enough warning time to fire a retaliatory shot? Plus better comms etc Because land based icbms are the most easily destroyed with a preemptive strike. Their defense strategy is quantity The nuke you don’t know where it’s launching from or stationed is immensely more dangerous than the ones you are tracking, and can keep an eye on. It’s the equivalent of showing your opponent 2 knives, but giving them the knowledge you have three pointed at them. It’s the emphasis on the mutually assured destruction part. You nuke the entire country, and the subs just pop up, dump their load, and your ass in on the first train to hell too. Imo Of course, but I think even without my bias I can make a pretty strong argument for why submarines are the most powerful ships in the ocean
Blind man’s bluff is my favorite submarine book, and then after reading that think about the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this fact that modern day subs can do even crazier things I’ll have to check that out! Last one I read was Northern Fury, although that’s not sub-specific but more of a 90s Red Storm Rising. Yep. They are so hard to detect that a French and an English sub collided, and a Chinese sub surfaced in the middle of an American fleet doing exercises. India also sunk a Pakistani frigate, and the DPRK sank a ROK Corvette. They were using diesel-electrics though – only the UK has an SSN kill (that we know of at least). Argentina also unsuccessfully fired torpedoes at British ships during the Falklands. Or at least some accounts say they did. It forces other players to invest in destroyers or fight invisible fleets…. Which I subsequently take down with aircraft carriers. The main problem I have with them in Civ is that subs become visible and targetable by city defense when they attack cities. By the time I have subs I’m mostly looking for ways to rapidly reduce city defenses, and the missile cruisers generally seem better at that. Well, as long as you continue to adapt them. The Japanese and Germans didn’t, at least sufficiently to have them be an effective force.
That’s because they both lost so many subs that it wasn’t worth it logistically and materially to do so. The Japanese lost 128 and Germany lost 785 Imo, they still are. Nuclear subs are the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this true “Dreadnoughts” of our time, insofar that just a handful of them can potentially tip the balance of naval power or a regional scale. Aircraft carriers are good for intimidating a nation who still uses Soviet equipment to better not restrict global trade too much. But when shit truly hits the fan at some point in the future, it’ll be the submarines who’ll decide who rules the waves. For about half of the war they were the absolute terror of the seas to the point that even Churchill said that the U-boats were the biggest threat to the war effort. Their effectiveness diminished as Britain and the US slowly started to introduce new technologies and tactics around 1942 that dramatically reduced the amount of ships sunk by the U-boats to practically 0 by the time D-Day happened.
The Americans made the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this German U-boat campaign look like a fucking joke. For all intents and purposes, Japans Merchant fleet stopped existing by 1945 and there was a very real threat of a famine in Japan by the time the Atomic Bombs were dropped. Most of the American’s submarine’s work was also done in 1944-45, as up until late 1943, America’s torpedos straight up did not work. For a country as logical and advanced regarding warfare as the US, the story of the faulty mark 14 is absolutely out of left field. Our military pre WWII was completely ass-backwards. You should read up on the development of U.S. tank doctrine. The army straight up refused to adopt mechanized and armored warfare because of the old guard generals with way too much influence were Cavalry officers and didn’t want funding diverted away from their horses.
Sounds like US corporations. Everybody protects their ass and wants to ride the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this successes of their past forever. I mean it’s just a classic case of pride, ego and corruption leading to a lot of preventable deaths of servicemen that no country’s armed forces is immune to. What makes the US, and democracies in general, so effective in war is that the military is ultimately held accountable for their mistakes by their government and the public, as we ultimately are the ones that pay them for a service, and if they’re not providing an adequete service, we start to question it’s legitimacy and the money we spend on them, so therefore pressure from both the public and government does eventually enforce change. The U-Boat hunting campaigns are one of the most overlooked parts of the war against Nazi Germany. They involved brilliant technological breakthroughs, brilliant codebreaking, an incredible span of operations, and TONS of talented people (I’ve read that the US Navy had a team of ladies whose full time job was to track and monitor U-Boat movements, the methods used in their work were so secretive that they weren’t allowed to talk about it at all for decades after the war ended).
To be fair, the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this situation with the Japanese fleet was different because they didn’t have the will (or ability?) to replace all the tonnage sunk. One of the reasons the Battle of the Atlantic was won was because the US simply built more tonnage than was sunk. I would also say that Japan didn’t really have a proper Anti-Submarine doctrine. The UK at least had experience fighting in WW1 with how to deal with the U-boats, so the institutional knowledge of basic Anti-Sub Warfare was pretty well ingraned into the Royal Navy, and then prioritized it as they knew that U-boats were going to be the primary maritime threat to the UK during a war with Germany. Japan didn’t have such advantages, and were extremely slow to adopt even the most basic Radar on their ships. Iirc, the Yamato was the only Japanese ship with radar on it and I genuinely do not know if the Japanese even put SONAR on their ships. Their navy and army (sometimes literally) fought over resource allocations and whenever the IJN got funding and material, they opted for the Quality over Quantity approach (which was realistically their only option) and concentrated their efforts into a very small amount of elite ships and crews, that if lost, practically crippled the IJN. Carriers and Battleships got the most amount of attention and the smaller Cruisers and Destroyers, ships vital for Anti-Submarine Warfare got practically none during the war.
Pretty much all nations had sonar + depth charges on their destroyers. It was the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani x Lakers LeBron James Los Angeles skyline Shirt so you should to go to store and get this standard requirement for a naval fleet. It’s just that submarines are incredibly difficult to hunt (listening for propeller screws, locating their exact position and then setting your depth charges for a perfect hit) In contrast, submarines only need the range (using identification books that show ships with their exact length, a timer to measure the ship speed, and both ship length + speed to measure angle, then you can leave once the torpedoes leave the chambers.) Apart from the Yamato, the Japanese strategy was always focused on building smaller light cruisers and destroyers, submarines and carriers to sink or damage US battleships in minor night skirmishes. After they’ve whittled the US fleet, the final “grand battle” would bring the safe and untouched battleships, Yamato-class included, to finish the crippled US fleet. The US had a similar battle plan (crazy how a good idea is used by both sides) where they would whittle the Japanese fleet while island hopping- reducing the ports from which Japanese ships could repair. Then a final “grand battle” would be the knock out punch.
