I am dying to be able to use this but there is no equivalent in English. I just end up saying “Apparently such and such happened.” It is close, but not the same. 3- How in the world isnt there a question format in English that covers “How manyth?”. In Turkish it is “Kaçıncı? Kaçı?”. I want to ask “How manyth am I in this line?” Or “How manyth of the month is it? 11th of November? Cool.” Or “How manyth drink is this? Time to have some water..” or whatever..

We Norwegians do these confirming “mmm” sounds when actively listening to someone telling a story or talking about something in general. There are so many variants of the ‘mmhm’ and every norwegian does it. If you are a Norwegian, you will find yourself “mmhh’ing at this description and then getting confused by it just happening. We are so programmed to use this sounds that trying to have a group of Norwegians talk without it is impossible.
