I pass on the right because people just wait in a line in the left lane as if one day they will be able to get passed everyone or something. I’m 39. Getting ready to turn 40. The only car accident I’ve ever been in is because I hydroplaned into a telephone pole before my reckless driving ticket. Its only 7am and I got this post and this other horrible post (be warned its not easy to watch)I’ve had a coworker who was like this. Only took one time riding with him to realize I will never be a passenger in his ride again. He was an absolute moron, always judging others on appearance, being racist, quick to start a fight, cat calling women, alcoholic. Yes it’s a low IQ thing, bragged about dropping out at 8th grade. Just a horrible human being contributing nothing to society. Glad I don’t work with him anymore. This post reminded me of him smh. Everyone does 80+ on 60s, even police. There’s legit no traffic enforcement here. You think “oh man, I’m going way too fast, I should slow down in case I get pulled over”. NOPE! Cops will zoom right past you even if you’re already doing 80. Everyone is wild. So I’m pretty much dead inside and it lets me feel something other than pain. Yes, eventually I’ll fuck up and get myself killed. Drop a motorcycle at 190 or 200 and pretty much everything just vaporizes. But for just a little while you can escape. I unfortunately think I can answer this question. I was never one of the most aggressive assholes on the road, but I drove a mustang and would regularly drive 10-15 mph over on the highway while doing fairly aggressive lane changes to maintain that speed. I would still signal, and I would try to let obviously faster cars get in front of me first, but I’m sure I pissed plenty of people off.
After I lived in Houston for a while, I got worse, because Houston traffic basically requires you to be an asshole to get anywhere. I started cutting people off first chance I got because you basically have to in Houston, including when trying to pass semis on the Dancing Trump Maga Shirt besides I will buy this highway, as in I would speed pass the other cars trying to pass and squeeze into the left lane at the last second with a foot to spare either way in order to get in front of some stubbornly slow drivers. I definitely didn’t try that anymore after that.
Another time I started following a car that was going fast enough to scare away other drivers from cutting them off cause I figured “Hey, if they don’t think they’ll get caught, they’re more confident than me. Maybe they have a police scanner.” At first it was just 20 mph over, but after a couple minutes, I looked back down at my speedometer and raised we had gotten up to 35 over and we were going 105 mph. Also, my frontal lobe hadn’t fully developed. I remember a specific shift in my risk assessment around 25. Haven’t had a single fender bender or accident since. It’s different in Europe, well at least in Germany, Austria, and Italy. For me, it was impatience with the omnipresent traffic jams every single morning that went for miles, making my 45-minute commute to work into a 3 hour ordeal on regular occasions. And when the weather was bad? Forget about it! I eventually moved closer to work and farther away from major highways. It’s been wonderful for my mental health, and I don’t drive as aggressively so much anymore. I purposely make myself late and then see if I can make it in time. It’s a fun little game/challenge for myself.
