Ah…. But I did write another comment point out how fucking stupid these “I turned it into a sound” posts are. Look I turned my flatulence into a sound. This is pretty ridiculous. The idea that a black hole would have “sound” as we perceive it is absurd. This “sound” is basically meaningless noise. Sound can exist in the low-density gas surrounding the black hole. The sound is created by the black hole’s rotation. This is supposed to be sound that was indirectly measured by the observatory and pitch shifted into the audible range.

I’m a bit confused. how did we come to a conclusion that this is even remotely similar to what a black hole sounds like? Still pretty cool. I’m surely wrong, and have not investigated further because I cbf, but have they just used the density/brightness/colour etc. of the literal image as a spectral guide to synthesise this sound? The sound even pans with the play head on the image… There has to be more to it, because if I took a photo of you and threw it in a synth with bitmap capabilities, it wouldn’t exactly be an accurate representation of how ‘you’ sound. Damn it, now I’m interested enough to look. Fuck this planet; I’ll be back in four minutes with a self-correction. From the linked NASA article: “In musical terms, the pitch of the sound generated by the black hole translates into the note of B flat.
