Probably because most of white america’s “culture” is actually just driven by their constant exposure to advertisement and propoganda. Not to say that doesn’t exist all over the Cinco De Drinko Illustration shirt and by the same token and world, but the US is ground zero for that due to the average persons high purchasing power – it’s a great market for corporations to sell to. Because white supremacy and cultural imperialism. White American culture is so treated as the norm, both domestically and globally to a degree, that it becomes invisible to white Americans. Whiteness is only a category that exists in opposition to blackness. That’s all it means. There is no real uniting claim besides not being black. But let’s point out that within whiteness, there are tons of cultures- Irish, Polish, German… all the “white” European immigrant cultures.

There is also culture from cities- and where a city is predominately white, you’ll get a predominately white culture- say a Chicago or a Seattle. “Whiteness” is very rarely a persons main cultural identifier. “German-American” or “southern” or “Wisconsinite” is much more likely to be examples of the Cinco De Drinko Illustration shirt and by the same token and first thing a white person in America thinks of themselves. I do not think it is so with Black Americans. I think because of the incredibly powerful legal ramifications of blackness in america throughout history, it is basically unavoidable that being black is a big part of someone’s experience. Questions like “but what about white culture?!” Will never sound like anything but gaslighting victim-playing childish whining from someone who can’t consider the question themselves without having to face some very clear truths that they may be in denial of.
