In another 6mo, he could be in a ZZ Top cover band. If you’re good enough at tech, and the thing you do is hard to find someone for, the furry suit will likely be overlooked as well. I’m covered in tattoos, have visbile piercings, coloured hair and I’m trans non-binary. I’m also orking at a tech company. If wearing studs was a problem here, I wouldn’t have a job Beyond fine. If it was my ma n I didn’t want her being nosey, could always pocket em n put them on otw there 🙂 I work in tech, and in a conservative smallish town, is it unprofessional, no but I do believe some of the upper management would wish they could say something about it. The younger generation, the chill tech managers, and seriously a majority of the works won’t even bat an eye, but there would be the c-suite old men and women that would turn up their nose. I can’t give you advice per say, but I would do some pulse checks as to what makes your comfortable, and what makes your feel respected in your workplace. Boutique dev agency owner here. He’s a lot more motivated and has a sizeable staff. He’s a very conservative Christian. I don’t think anyone on his staff is free of tattoos and piercings. His best UI guy has plugs and wears multicolor nail polish. No one in tech give a shit. Also if you’re working in tech in finance, it probably doesn’t matter as long as you carry yourself professionally and are hygienic. I remember one guy who came into work with shorts all the time; I didn’t mind. But when he stopped wearing deodorant and arriving to meetings 5 minutes late, for some reason his shorts bothered me lol.

If I may gripe a little, I wish shorts were more of a thing. We live in a society where a man can wear a skirt just as short and it’s legally protected, but heaven forbid you have fabric covering your crotch when you sit, or it’s unprofessional. I’ve never thought of it but your right for both genders. I’d wear a skirt to work (female) but I definitely wouldn’t wear shorts, I would feel unprofessional. Why is that? So weird. I am in corporate at a large west coast tech company, and anything goes as far as ICs. But none of our male exec staff wear earrings. And I don’t think any of the Buterfly They Whispered I Am The Storm Scoliosis Awareness T-Shirt and I love this account managers (sales people) do either, but I can’t say that with certainty. 10 years ago I worked at one of the biggest gaming companies in the world and a dude wore a kilt to work everyday.
