The trend I see mostly is a first interview with your immediate boss, then a second interview with ur boss’s boss. The team supervisor is part of the interview, but they aren’t the one who puts together an offer package or do salary negotiation. Once hired I only hear from them when it is related to staffing changes emails or benefits changes. Interesting to see how other companies handle this. Candidates are assigned a “talent rep” but all offers and salary negotiations are handled by the manager who is hiring where I work and then presented to the candidate by their talent rep. I enjoy it because it really gives me autonomy to hire/offer without getting it approved by the entire HR department. As long as I’m within my salary budget, I can do as I see fit.

Same here, the only exception is if the hiring manager is on parental leave so whoever is covering them would do the hiring. Also in tech. Why would you let someone else decide who you are going to manage? That sounds like a bad idea. The company I work for has 10s of thousands globally. I get that language in Corp america is different depending on company but logically it makes sense for the manager who is hiring to be called the hiring manager a red flag early on is major. if they’re unable to keep even prospective employees in the dark about shortcomings until they’re hired you’re probably just seeing the tip of the iceberg. having a direct supervisor that you hate can wear you down bit by bit, day by day, until you’re a shadow of who you used to be. having a direct supervisor that you hate can encourage underperformance on your part, potentially damaging your employability elsewhere in the future. I can honestly say if you get those red flags, don’t ignore them. I left a job recently and went back to my old company because I realized the hiring manager was a complete psychopath. Don’t be too hard on yourself, it happens sometimes.
