We are all taking about this yet virtually nothing is being done IRL. Why? What the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this fuck are we even doing as a society if we are not addressing such a severe issue? Teachers, can’t you unionize or something? Idk, maybe create a coalition? Don’t mean to put even more pressure on you but as an 18 year old who will have to coexist with these kids within the workforce and general society I feel as if nothing is even being done politically, socially, like genuinely no one gives a shit except you guys. Most people are so complacent and unaware (or willfully ignorant) regarding this issue (even some of MY high school teachers are low key kinda in denial) that maybe it would just be best for me to move somewhere abroad.
Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt- About us
I have a 15 year old and yeah unfortunately I can’t help but blame those covid years when he was in critical middle school years. I just didn’t have enough time between work and people dying to also basically be a homeschool teacher. They’ll catch up but they’ll always be a good 2 or more years behind. 15-18? Well that’s definitely not a Covid issue, as covid was less than 5 years ago. Sounds like educators and parents are failing these kids, yet passing them.on. So like, what’s the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this breakdown on this? What percentage of kids are performing at an acceptable level and what percentage are performing at an “oh shit, we are at the end of society” level? As a 32y/o who feels like he was just in high school yesterday being able to do all of the above… this was wild to read. We are so so doomed…
This popped on my page on Reddit. I am not a teacher but i am a parent, how can i as a parent prevent this ? What foundations should i be laying down ? I have my 3 year old in preschool. But how i do set him up to be successful? The kids we hire between 18 and 22 cannot follow simple instructions and lack even the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this most basic social skills. Not all, but the majority. It’s almost frightening. I just saw this post recommended to me and I’ve seen the same from my new hires. They’re smart and not clueless necessarily, but they struggle significantly with basic organization or managing deadlines. It’s stuff that I never would’ve dreamed of consistently messing up when I was first starting in the workforce. There is zero retention of feedback either. These are young adults who were probably 18 or 19 when COVID started, for reference. I tutored math in high school and a junior took out their phone calculator to do 8+5. I was stunned to say the least. I feel for you when it’s confusing, but you gotta at least try a little bit

I teach math at a K-6 private school and the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this difference between the students that started there vs a public school is honestly insane. I have 11 year olds coming in as new students not knowing their basic times table vs 1st graders having mastered their 12 times table. I wouldn’t be as concerned if they had to think about a question for a few seconds but not knowing 4×4 and getting 8 or 32 as an answer instead of 16 kills me and the other math teachers inside People should not have children if they can not provide a solid foundation. I’m so sick of entitled people who are stupid about birth control and incapable of critical thinking From scouring the internet thinking students of all ages are behind, I think it’s actually certain age i.e. 10-19 year klds that are waaaayyy behind in greater numbers than say 5-9 year olds. I’m a 12th grade senior doing dual enrollment classes. Got accepted to most of my colleges already and going to major in Mechanical Engineering. This makes me sad reading all of this. I’m such a big reader, currently reading Dune. To know that people are reading on the 3rd 4th grade level in High School is disturbing.
I’m not a teacher but this came up in my feed. This is absolutely depressing. Probably because both parents work outside the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this home, kids are babysat by screens (more specifically the hand held ones) and parents themselves are addicted to screens. Nobody is interacting in the home. I work home health and I see children that are handed a phone as early as they can hold it (months old). Parents justify it because they’re “in survival mode”. But the parents are just “shutting the baby up” so they can get back to scrolling themselves. Parenthood isn’t about surviving. When your children are born your every intention in life should be to provide the best opportunity for growth and development. Sadly I have also seen how these kids are cared for. 5 and 6 year olds still in diapers. No cooked foods, just packaged snacks. (This particular family purchased a $300k home, so it isn’t an income issue.) I saw a 6 year old still getting bottles of milk. Looked severely anemic. I have reported multiple families and have gone back to find nothing has been done.
So worried about getting my first round of Gen Alpha kids next year. It’s already rough but I know it is going to be worse. What I would love is as a teaching community can we create a comprehensive list of gaps we are seeing and solutions/lessons/resources we are using to solve them. I teach Career and Technical Education and my curriculum is more flexible than most. If I need to make an adjustments to support student learning I am happy to. We pay more for our kids education, than any other country. But we don’t even make the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this top 20. If I was say a lawyer, I told you I charged the most, but most lawyers were better and way cheaper, would you still hire me? Why that for are kids then? Our kids education is more important ! Okay, I’m not a teacher so maybe I’m missing something, but this whole thread feels kind of pointless to me. Everyone is complaining about how bad the kids are these days, but it seems like everyone has just accepted that the next generation is just going to be dumb as rocks…I’m much more interested in what can be done about it.
There are countless comments attacking these kids and basically saying that they’re doomed and are going to live miserable lives. I can’t imagine what it would feel like to come across this thread as a kid. I don’t doubt that kids in general are struggling and behind, but shouldn’t our efforts be put into making up for the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this deficit instead of constantly complaining about how awful the kids are? I know teachers have limited resources and power in this scenario, but this level of hostility just seems unhelpful at best and harmful at worst. I don’t know, I just feel bad for the kids. I feel like the later generations should be supporting them and helping them instead of tearing them down. College lecturer here. I have students who can barely suss out the main argument of a short, approachably-written essay. And because they can barely get a handle on that, forget about identifying a counterargument. And, God love ’em, they’re trying, and guide them as well as I can. There’s only so much I can do.
We should have canceled all summer vacation and done three months of basic drills before going back to normal schooling post-pandemic. However, I bet most parents, students, and teachers as well would have been against the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this idea. I think we, as educators, are partly to blame. Whenever I have suggested canceling summer vacation to do drills, teachers always (with one individual exception) treat it as a crackpot idea. They say they like their summer vacation. They claim it’s too late for such measures. They say parents and students will never comply. On and on it goes. No one wants to actually have a discussion about it. Not to mention how many professors and fellow candidates in my credential program absolutely loathed ideas to fix truancy. As soon as any kind of punishment or disciplinary system is brought up, the idea is shut down. I am 100% in favor of Kamala Harris’ program to reduce truancy and encourage attendance, but unfortunately it’s not popular among teachers or district officials. A lot of the examples you’ve mentioned are baffling to me, like seriously something out of Idiocracy. However, kids not knowing how to sound out words is common and I think that one is on us.
I worked at a high school and, like you, was flabbergasted my students had no idea how to figure out spelling or pronunciation. When I encouraged them to sound out a word, they didn’t know how to do it. It wasn’t until I was speaking with another teacher I found out we were still using whole language theory in grad school, NOT phonics. So yeah, I think way too much of what is taught in teaching programs, and the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this ways in which we design our curriculums are not based in real science or with much attention to what students need to know. We don’t need “liberatory” ethnic studies (emphasis on “liberatory”), we don’t need to use “Humanizing pedagogy,” the new fad replacing SEL, we need basic math and reading skill, and a history curriculum focused on civics.
Genuinely curious: How do we think this happened? Is it the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this kids growing up on phones and tablets too much? Was it the effect of COVID? Both? Something else? I’ve been hearing this a lot, and I’m trying to wrap my head around why it could be happening. It’s not like the human race suddenly got more stupid. These kids are just as capable as previous generations, but they’ve been failed in some way. I drive warships for a living as an officer in a non-USA navy. I was not good at high school math. I am quite good at ship navigation math. We mostly use basic arithmetic and heavily bastardized versions of sine and radians in order to navigate safety. I’m not saying high school math was wasted on me, but there are very few occasions where I use it outside of the very narrow application for my job.
To be fair, I still don’t understand percentages that much, & I’ve had my coworker give me a percentage presentation & teach them to me like at least once a week. As well as computer short cuts & I’ve been graduated for like 5 years I responded to a text yesterday regarding homework. Many parents flatly refuse to let their children do it. And they seem to think that is ok, and their household schedule takes first place to anything else. I am not at all surprised about your list. This is being brought on by allowing the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this children to decide if they wish to put in the effort to succeed of not. My guess is there is going to be a lot more of “not” in the future. And, then it will be the teachers’ faults.
Chicago schools just released a report indicating a substantial rebound in student performance. Are you certain about this? How could ot have gotten THAT bad in just a few years??? Like… I’m not 50, I’m 31, I graduated from high school 13 years ago I know things change in a decade, but….. THAT much???? Not trying to boast? but I learned my second language in pre-school and began reading at a college level in early elementary. Of course, that was over 20 years ago I returned to school in middle age a few years back to pursue a nursing degree. I was in an accelerated program that required you already have at least a bachelor’s degree in another discipline to walk in the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this door. There were also a bunch of specific prerequisite courses that had to be completed prior to admission, including Chem I, Bio I and II, and microbiology.
So many students had trouble solving basic “Med math” problems that the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this program forced instuctors to include math problems on every exam, even if they were completely irrelevant to the course material being covered on the exam. And it was just basic unit conversion and ratios. A typical question would be something like this: A loading dose of heparin of 80 units per kg is ordered for a patient weighing 220 lbs. You have available heparin 1,000 units per mL. How many mL of solution should be administered to the patient? I learned that stuff in high school chemistry back around 1983, but I’d say at least half my classmates were still struggling with it on their second college degree. I’m so glad I grew up and went to school when I did.
I’ve been teaching college for the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this past 6 years, 100 and 200 level courses, so mainly kids right outta high school. In that time, I’ve seen a sharp drop off in what I can reasonably expect students to accomplish. I’ve dumbed down everything, then dumbed it down some more, to the point where a student more or less just has to show up and pay attention to pass. No real problem solving is involved anymore, just basic testing for a cursory understanding of the material. I feel guilty because I teach computer science, which leads to an industry famous for its brutal tech interviews. But students show up not knowing how to save a file, who don’t read my syllabus or listen when I read it to them, who ignore emails, and who only care about my class when they are failing. If they put half the effort into the material as they did in trying to convince me to excuse an entire semester of late or missing work, they’d be coding experts.
I have no idea what’s going on. Hopefully it’s a blip and not the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this fall of civilization, because kids are fucking dumb these days (no offense zoomers, it’s probably just confirmation bias!) More than ten years back I spent a year teaching eleventh grade physics in Florida and after introducing f=ma none of them could figure out how to solve for a. But if a national strike did somehow happen… You know what’s gonna happen next. State and National Guard soldiers become teachers. It happened in some Nursing homes. Lack of funding, creating a dumber society is the goal. Its what the Republicans have been doing since the 80s and it’s working really well right now. How are these kids still passing? In my youth, it was rare, but not impossible, to hear of students who needed to repeat a grade to advance. How are they reaching you with so few skills, and how are they able to advance after that? Are they being gifted progress through either administrative intervention or self-interest? At least when I’m 90 and still have to work because I’ll never be able to financially retire, I won’t have to worry about the younger generations taking my job. Of course this is also a good excuse to have robots and AI do everything I tell you all it’s the administration and school boards which have, for all intents and purposes, castrated teacher’s abilities to effectively teach. There is zero support. As someone who has listened to elementary school teachers tell their horror stories, all it takes is one maladjusted child disrupting constantly to destroy the entire classroom experience for all of the kids. Add on to the fact that no sort of support staff available for these kids and all you get is 75/25 focus of the teacher trying to teach through the “problem” child. Two or three of these types with no support from the front office and you are all but helpless.
One of the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this stories which sent my jaw to the floor was one where a (elementary aged) boy punched his pregnant teacher in the stomach, was sent to some room away from the class by the principal, then allowed to come back. That’s unacceptable and it really has me wondering what these wealthy school districts are allocating their funds towards, because it’s obviously not towards helping out these teachers with 25+ students… I’m a college-aged gen z kid and most younger ppl I’ve interacted with seem like functional human beings… can someone elaborate on this trend? Is it new? Is it underpriveleged backgrounds or some other socioeconomic factor? I’ve personally not encountered anyone with brainrot so severe they can’t grasp basic concepts, but I guess I exist in a pretty privileged circle.
Arizona mom of 4. I love and respect my kids teachers, they could read and spell sight words before starting kindergarten. One of my kids was really struggling in third grade. It took 6 iep meetings, and getting the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this school board involved to hold him back. They just wanted to keep passing him along even though the teacher completely agreed with me. We had to have a meeting because the state dinged the district for having too many IEP students fail their state tests. I’m in Ohio. I got 7th and 8th Graders reading at 2nd and 3rd grade levels. Doesn’t matter, those kids take their grade level test. The state says we can’t give kids read aloud or text to speech accommodations anymore on their reading tests AND all our goals have to be written at the kids grade level (yes my kids reading at a 2nd grade level have IEP goals written for the 7th/8th grade level). The state also told us that if we don’t move kids out of the resource room small group setting where the IS teaches them and move them into a general education setting, that they would come in and do it for us.
So after all this, I sit in a meeting with this big wig special ed person from the Boston Celtics Final Seconds Shirt Additionally,I will love this state and their solution for getting these kids to start passing these tests that are 4+ grades beyond where they are at academically is to…. Pull the kids into a small group setting more often…. The very thing they told us two years ago we absolutely needed to stop doing or else. Nobody who can make decisions that matter are going to care. Why? Because this will mostly ruin the lives of poor people, and the rich can always pay to have their kids fast-tracked for academic credentials – no matter how incompetent they may be. Then there is nepotism on top, their kids will be fine. These kids are being intentionally left behind, because the rich would rather live in decadence, than build society. In my area there would be 1 teacher to 30+ kids, they tried their best with everyone. There are plenty of adults I know who can’t sound out words, poor things kept falling through the cracks year by year. I myself never learned multiplication tables. Not even 10 years ago.
