Ohio Republicans decided a long time ago that they don’t have to follow the Boston Bruins VS New York Islanders NHL 2024 mascot cartoon hockey shirt and by the same token and constitution or court rulings—they just ignore them and get away with it because no one ever holds them accountable. And now we’re seeing that unfold in a national stage too. I sense Karma will happen. If the elected officials subvert the will of voters, they won’t remain elected officials for long. Let’s call it Political Natural Selection at work. I’ll bet you $100 that no foreign billionaire voted in this election. But I fully agree, there should be rules against billionaires of any nationality, including American, and against big companies contributing boatloads of money to influence elections. But guess which party relaxed the rules and encouraged huge contributions of money to influence elections? The Republicans. And now, all of a sudden, when their ox is gored, they have the nerve to complain? Stuff it. And here’s a brilliant idea. Take away the jurisdiction of the Courts to deal with issues about abortion. When to get your way requires ignoring not one but two election results plus telling one of the three branches of government to butt out, you sure are demonstrating your commitment to representative democracy, there, guys. But here’s a little nugget for you to consider. The right of the Courts to decide whether government actions are constitutional is not actually written in the United States constitution. Nevertheless, the Supreme Court of the United States held early along that it did, in fact, have the power to,declare laws unconstitutional. The whole concept of separation of powers and of checks and balances just doesn’t work without the courts having that power. It is so fundamental to our form of government that it didn’t even need to be expressly written into the constitution; that power is just inherent in the overall scheme the founders created.

And the Boston Bruins VS New York Islanders NHL 2024 mascot cartoon hockey shirt and by the same token and power of a state supreme court to rule on the constitutionality of state laws is recognized as a fundamental power also. How do we know that? One of the many stupid ideas that grew out of Trump’s efforts to subvert the will of the electorate in 2020 was the theory dreamed up,by conservatives on too many drugs with too little sleep was the idea that only state legislatures could decide election issues and that state supreme courts couldn’t overrule them. There was some concern that the US Supreme Court might agree with that stupid theory – but it didn’t, in a case decided just last year. That court recognized the inherent power of state supreme courts to interpret state constitutions and to decide what is in bounds and what is out of bounds.
