I think that’s just a modern lens — a projection of what you value placed onto people who don’t have the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this same things. If you value comfort, convenience and knowledge — then people who don’t have these things will be less happy and have a tougher life. For one, the Vedas (which date back to around 1800BC) teach that mankind is naturally full of joy. That sadness and difficulty of course exist, but that mankind is naturally and most commonly joyful. This is writing from jungle-dwellers without anything that we have today. It could be that the means to joy are animalistic things that evolved as part of nature, only to atrophy with things like comfort and convenience — that we actually become less happy as we are pessimistic towards how we feel about ourselves as we are forever more reliant on external things for distraction and joy.

Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt: Perfect for Fans

My point is that with family, friends, shelter, food — I have no doubt that many Romans lived perfectly happy lives. Maybe much happier than many around us today. Yeah. I’m thrilled to have been born at a place/point in history where I don’t wake up and wonder if I’ll end the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this day sold into slavery. Gotta be grateful for that. Are you implying mass death? Usually a city collapses due to people leaving because the city isn’t able to support them anymore, not because of a mass death situation. It was mostly shoddy multi storey apartments over a 13sq mile area according to some comment. Cities mostly couldn’t grow larger than reasonable walking distance until the 19th century It is truly amazing (and becomes more amazing the more you read about it) how absolutely incredible ancient Rome (and to some lesser extent other ancient civilizations) was, and how much was lost and not regained for a thousand years after its collapse. You always hear this meme that the moniker “dark ages” is totally inaccurate and that the middle ages were actually not that bad at all, but honestly, I feel it gets overused and people forget that there is quite a bit of truth at its core. European civilization regressed on so many metrics, it could almost be called a post-apocalyptic society. The Franks thought they were clever with their “invention” of feudalism, which allowed them to nominally “control” a comparably large realm even though their population didn’t really have the education and literacy levels required for a true “imperial-style” administrative bureaucracy. After all, what’s the harm in sending cousin Louis to administer that faraway duchy in the king’s name? That way we don’t need to pay for this expensive postal system to constantly send riders and reports back and forth! Oh wait, cousin Louis suddenly isn’t sending us taxes anymore? And he has raised his own army in “his” lands which is only loyal to him? Well, shit… but oh look, he says all he wants is that we promise to give his kid the same “administrator” job after he dies, and if we agree to that he’ll play ball again. Easily done! I’m sure this isn’t gonna come back to haunt us…
They basically put the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this breaks on society for close to a thousand years before an independent class of literate bureaucrats born out of the needs of the guilds and other city trade became available to support more centralized regimes again. some historians estimate Rome’s population never surpassed around 500,000. Quiet a lot of ancient populations are ballparks, estimates, and mathematical equations. Gibbon goes into that in the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire comparing and contrasting the populations of cities in Europe compared to the Roman Empire It’s possible. A thing with population records is that they are incredibly unreliable. Constantinople, for example, was estimated to have a population between 250,000 to 1 million in the 4th and 5th centuries and we’ll probably never know what its population was for sure.

Rome was quite simply mindblowing and it would not be rivaled for that long. Seeing the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this ruins doesn’t do it justice. Here is an accurate 3d reconstruction of Rome: I mean shit, a modern human would walk those streets and be blown away. There’s this push in modern history to not call what followed in Western Europe the “dark ages”, both because it wasn’t that unenlightened and because the eastern Roman Empire didn’t collapse…but the fact is, Europe couldn’t build shit like this again for almost 1,500 fucking years. So I take issue with that. Compared to the Roman Empire, what became of Western Europe was god damned post apocalyptic. The closest thing you can come to this feeling of going back in time today is walking through the ruins of Pompeii, which I think everyone should do if they are able to visit Italy. You can literally walk into some random house and see the tiles on their floor and the paintings on their wall. Every day maybe a hundred cows died for Ankh-Morpork. So did a flock of sheep and a herd of pigs, and the gods alone knew how many ducks, chickens, and geese. Flour? He’d heard it was eighty tons, and about the same amount of potatoes, and maybe twenty tons of herring. He didn’t particularly want to know this kind of thing, but once you started having to sort out the everlasting traffic problem, these were the kind of facts that got handed to you.
Every day, forty thousand eggs were laid for the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this city. Every day, hundreds, thousands of carts and boats and barges converged on the city with fish and honey and oysters and olives and eels and lobsters. And then think of the horses dragging this stuff, and the windmills… and the wool coming in, too, every day, the cloth, the tobacco, the spices, the ore, the timber, the cheese, the coal, the fat, the tallow, the hay EVERY DAMN DAY… It wasn’t a city, it was a process, a weight on the world that distorted that land for hundred of miles around. People who’d never see it in their whole life nevertheless spent that life working for it. Thousands and thousands of green acres were part of it, forests were part of it. It drew in and consumed…
It’s widely accepted that ancient Chinese army sized are exaggerated. Massive, yes, but not close to a million men. The early English, The Carolingian Franks, everybody pretended their dick or the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this dick of the enemy they just beat was bigger than it actually was. Often you’d belittle the size of your own and vastly increase the supposed size of your enemy. Makes for much better bragging. Wasn’t Charles Martel supposed to have killed like 500,000 Moors at the battle of Tours lol? I mean, it was probably a decent sized scrap but an army big enough to impress Napoleon? Naahh I recall a story where 900 Jews held their own against 15,000 Roman soldiers. And the Romans, where are they now? i dont know about that, Jews are so big in inbreeding that the entire Ashkenazi Jewish population stems from a population bottle neck of about 350 people around 800 years ago and they suffer from a laundry list of genetic disorders and a predisposition toward schizophrenia from all the endogamy Jesus fuck the ancient world was inefficient. They had to enslave the known world to feed a city up to 1 million. Yeah and how much of that is supported by slavery or slave/like conditions in third world countries? Over 1 billion people in the world still have homes with dirt floors ffs. We aren’t exactly spreading the wealth around very efficiently. I mean, isn’t that’s obvious? The lack of modern engines, refrigeration etc would obviously make sustaining that city incredibly inefficient. It just leads you to Marvel at the Romans’ impressive public works and logistic capabilities
You try doing that without modern technologies like artificial fertilizers, germ theory, medicine and transportation. If you were around 1000 years ago we’d be on hovering skateboards right now getting our dicks sucked by sentient flesh androids designed only to please, am I right chief? Their lives were harsh. Slaves were often whipped, branded or cruelly mistreated. Their owners could also kill them for any reason, and would face no punishment. Although Romans accepted slavery as the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this norm, some people – like the poet and philosopher, Seneca – argued that slaves should at least be treated fairly. Scholars estimate about 10% (but possibly up to 20%) of the Roman empire’s population were enslaved. This would mean, for an estimated Roman empire population of 50 million (in the first century AD) between five and ten million were enslaved.
They had sewers. And they had clean running water either at home, or within a block or so. Public baths with hit and cold water, and steam rooms. They were pretty hygienic I’m sure it’s counting just citizens in what is today Italy. It’s not counting civilians, serfs, and slaves or territory outside of modern day Italy. They owned over half the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this continent. There’s no way it was only a million. That’s not true. Cordova had a million people around 1000 AD, or are we being racist and not counting Muslim Europe again? The economic historian J. Bradford DeLong estimates the city’s population at 400,000 around 1000 AD,[10] while estimates from other historians range from 100,000 to 1,000,000 during the same era.[43] Whatever Córdoba’s population was, the city’s apogee came to an abrupt halt after the 1009 crisis.
It always inspired the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this Romans (memento mori) that everything great ends, like maga, the political nostalgia is always a lie without an echoe of historical reality. Well Rome was fed from farms across the empire, Egypt being a literal breadbasket. It had also been the tradition to hand out bread to the lower classes though I’m not aure when they stopped that. In any case the surrounding countryside couldn’t support a million people at that time unless you had the empire to provide goods elsewhere. Important to note, as the title does, that this is only europe. Prior to the 1800s multiple Chinese cities reached 1 million as did the precursor to Tokyo. Amazing to think that with just draft animals, wind-powered ships/barges and slave labor, Rome was able to feed that many people in one place.
I’ve been employed with this company (in England) about three and a half years, when I joined I had not been in the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this workforce for 35 years (self employed) so had no idea on holiday rights etc. I was told as I was on a zero hour contract, I wasn’t entitled to holiday. I get a daily rate (rather than hourly, so a salaried employee I think it’s called). I’ve never taken any holidays. Last year we were given contracts to sign, I signed mine, it states I have a daily rate for the days I work, plus 28 days paid holiday entitlement. Our boss sent out an email last week saying that there had been business disruption due to people taking holiday and expecting to be paid, he said that a part of the daily rate included an element for holiday pay and to stop taking holidays. He also ordered employees not to talk to each other about it or seek consultation from outside the company. I know this is bullshit, so you don’t need to tell me lol, but is there specific legislation that covers this? I know in schools (because my wife works in one) this is how pay is done but they have the holiday entitlement added to their basic pay not included in it.
So I got a calculator out and started adding things up, if what he says is right and my daily rate includes holiday entitlement, then nothing adds up, they “adjusted” the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this last payslip to include the holiday element but this is a percentage of the total wage and whichever way you add things up, nothing calculates squarely and if I were to believe everything he says, I’ve been underpaid on my daily rate for three and a half years to the tune of nearly four grand because the “holiday entitlement” portion of my present daily rate when deducted from it takes my “base daily rate” below the base pay detailed in my contract. I have raised an “informal grievance” and will be calling ACAS tomorrow, but just wondering if any of you wonderful internet strangers have any advice, or know the specific legislation relating to this that would help, or advise on how to proceed? I’ve had two sleepless nights and am going square eyed at all the stuff I’m reading.
I’ve spoken to colleagues about it over the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this weekend and most simply don’t care and don’t want to rock the boat, so I’m probably on my own fighting this. Thanks in advance….So there is something called “rolled up” holiday pay. This is when instead of holiday entitlement you get paid for this within your hourly rate. However, this should be shown clearly on your payslip as a separate payment. Is this the case? My contract states I get paid £55 per day and have 28 days holiday at the same rate, rolled up isn’t the term used, it but it’s the same thing. I work 189 days a year and am employed, but not working the remaining. So £55 x 28 is £1540 divided by 189 is £8.15, my employer is trying to claim that is included in the £55 and not added to it. The contract states the daily rate is £55 and holiday entitlement is extra. The amount I’m paid hasn’t changed but the separate “holiday” payment that has appeared on the pay slip is a percentage of the total and doesn’t bear any relation to or can not be calculated to equal and part of holiday pay and the basic pay element now takes my pay down to £46.85 a day instead of the £55 in my contract.
Oooh part time, part year worker with rolled up holiday pay. Gather your contract(s), last 2 years’ payslips and go talk to an employment solicitor. The high Court decision on harpur v Brazel is likely to be favourable to you. Funny you should mention that, 4.5 hours at the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this moment we are just scraping over it, but come 1st April we’ll be under the minimum wage too lol You will be 43p/h under minimum wage should you retain your current pay. This takes into account the holiday pay being included in your daily rate. Holiday pay should be paid at the time when annual leave is taken. An employer cannot include an amount for holiday pay in the hourly rate (known as ‘rolled-up holiday pay’). They also can’t advertise a rate that includes holiday pay. I work agency and they advertise + holiday. If they’re paying you minimum wage it has to be advertised as minimum wage, not the sum of minimum + holiday. Heres a good explanation from ACAS your boss is talking out of his behind. Show this to him and ask him to explain it to you. Oh yeah and join a union in case he decides to do something silly. It’s called Rolled Up Holiday Pay. It’s illegal. If you are dismissed for raising a grievance about it, it will be an automatically unfair dismissal, regardless of whether you’ve been there two years or not. Print out and keep a copy of that email. Part of why it’s illegal to pay rolled up pay is that it discourages taking holiday. Him actually putting that into writing pretty much nails his own coffin – it’s proof that it’s not even rolled up holiday pay, but de facto part of your normal pay and intended to stop you taking holiday. It also shows intention to defraud, which is always helpful to encourage a generous payout from tribunals.
Not really relevant to your case, but from 1st April 2024, any new holiday pay years will be allowed to use rolled up pay for irregular workers. It’s not illegal, it’s quite common on lower hour contracts or hospitality but perhaps not fully been examined in the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this courts and such. There’s companies whereby you say work 8 hours a week, at the end of the month the holiday accrued over the month they’ll pay you. It should be clearly defined in your payslip. The ruling on it’s legality from the ECJ (as was) – which determined that the practice was contrary to the purpose of the requirement to paid holiday as set out in the WTD – came with a poorly-thought through decision that was originally intended to insulate employers from potentially massive claims (despite having acted with an honest intention to comply) until the UK made appropriate amendments to the WTR to maintain compliance with the WTD.
The relevant ruling was that employers could offset any holiday pay due by the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this amount that they had paid as rolled up holiday pay, essentially negating any liability for engaging in the practice. Unfortunately, cases at the EAT have multiple times established that this ruling effectively legalised rolled up holiday pay. Is it illegal though? I worked zero hours for a major global UK based organisation which is known for doing things by the book, and they carved out a chunk of my hourly rate and nominated it as holiday/sick pay. Not saying it’s not illegal but I’d be surprised if they’d messed up as they’re so anally retentive. They do this at my wife’s school, she is paid X amount for her job, then Y amount for holiday entitlement, it’s calculated separately and unlike mine, actually makes sense and everything ads up correctly, if she takes a days holiday, it’s classed as unpaid leave – nobody has a problem with this, I think my boss forgot my wife works in a school lol
In schools it works like that because most workers only get 28 paid days holiday, but have more time off work due to the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this length of the school holidays. They get paid monthly, the same amount every month (unless there are extra payments such as overtime) regardless of whether they were at work for all that time or if they’d been off for the six weeks summer holidays. It spreads their pay out so they still have steady income through the school holidays. In your job, presumably you don’t get paid if you’re not at work, unlike your wife who should still be getting paid through the school holidays when she isn’t there. It’s the same, we just work as a contractor in a different part of the education system, like my wife my pay is split equally into 12 monthly payments. This is where I think he’s fucked up, if he is successful at arguing the base rate includes the holiday entitlement (even though my contract says it doesn’t), then it takes my base pay below minimum wage, or means I have been underpaid for 3 years, either way I expect him to try and spout some gibberish and try to wriggle out of it tomorrow, in my view, it doesn’t matter what he does, he’s accumulating enough “you shouldn’t do that” badges to last a lifetime.
It’s my belief that the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this rolled up holiday pay should be added to my daily rate, not included in it, this is what my contract states should happen. It’s a massive grey area, the nhs have continued to use rolled up holiday for their bank workers despite it being illegal since early 2000s… it seems that companies are unwilling to change unless they are specifically being sued for it It’s been ruled unfair where there are irregular hours or seasonal work etc. as holiday pay is based on 52 week prior earnings, so if they fluctuate the fixed 12.07% on a base rate isn’t representative of the 52 weeks earnings. By law, you’re entitled to 5.6 weeks’ statutory paid holiday a year if you work 5 days a week. Even zero-hour contact workers are:
Yeah thanks but this isn’t the Wolverine Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X shirt moreover I love this issue, he says that holiday is included in pay but the calculation doesn’t support this, my contract states I earn X amount per day and if you deduct the holiday entitlement” from it then I’ve been underpaid by some margin. I think he is simply trying to get out of paying paid holiday and this is the way he’s decided to go about it, just hoping most people won’t be bothered to get out a calculator and use it. If you are paid £55/day and that apparently includes your holiday entitlement, you are in fact being paid £49.55 / day. Could you itemise that out for me please? I know the difference is £5.45 but how do you come to that particular part of the calculation?
