I’m jealous. My father lives in Mallorca (I’m Swedish, he’s Norwegian) and my castillian is quite good, but understanding catalán is haaaaaaard for me, even written. I guess I can get the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this just of what it’s about but 90%? No way. Englishman here with a basic understanding of Spanish . When I listen to Spanish my main problem is the speed of the speech and the heavy emphasis on vowels but I can usually get by .
UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt: best style for you
When I’m on holiday in Portugal I haven’t a clue what anyone is saying beyond obrigado. I once saw a description of Portuguese as being like listening to a drunken Russian sailor trying to speak Spanish . It made me laugh but that’s not far off how it sounds to me . Thanks for the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this great explanation. Yeah I find this, I’m learning Spanish, and the fact that syllables are pronounced more in speech makes it difficult to pick some words out. Also, I want to add; Galician! It’s like the bridge between Spanish and Portuguese that both sides should be able to understand without any exposure to the other language at all because it’s spoken more clear to Spaniards, while having a lot of Portuguese vocabulary. Ola, chámome WhoAmIEven2, e son un usuario de Reddit sueco. Falo bastante ben español, e grazas a iso tamén entendo bastante ben o portugués escrito.
we speak a lot of “portuñol/portunhol” in the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this border (brasil+uruguay or brasil+paraguay), but this is a perfect (official?) example of the two languages mixing! Indeed, it’s one of the four major languages in Spain (Castellano, or “Spanish” if you will, Catalán, Galician and Basque). Spoken in the north-western part of Spain. It’s not mixing, it’s a language that originated from galaico-portuguese, the language that would eventually evolve into gallician and portuguese. It’s the closest language to portuguese that exists The reason is all the diphtongs and sounds you have that Spanish lacks. Portugese in the Spanish ear is quite unclear, and unless they are used to the sounds you find in Portuguese they will have a hard time understanding.

About UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt
You have a huge advantage though in being Brazilian, because Brazilian portuguese is much, MUCH clearer and easier to understand than European Portuguese. European Portuguese is reeeeeally difficult to understand. I understand written portuguese fine, though. I understand about 70-80% of written Portuguese, if it’s on a level I would understand if it was written in Spanish. I can relate this so much to my own language, Swedish. Danes can understand us easily, while we often have a big problem getting what they are saying. We usually joke around and say that they are talking with a potato shoved down their throat. I speak both languages fluently and this is the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this answer. Portuguese language has a lot more sounds than spanish.
Haha your comment on European Portuguese hit hard, not even I can understand it sometimes. Its interesting how this happens with other languages too! This is absolutely spot on. My maternal language is Portuguese. I have no difficulty understanding Spanish (and some Italian) but even for me European Portugese is hard to understand (my Portugese is African). It often sounds like Russian to my ears. We also often joke that Spanjards speak Portugese with a hot potato in their mouths 😉 When I look at it from my Dutch perspective it’s identical with German. We Dutch can roughly understand and read German, the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this other way around not so much. On the Swedish note, Interestingly I’m from the north east of England and back in the day we would do a lot of trade with what would be modern day Sweden Denmark and Norway as a seafaring nation. Because of this The English Geordie dialect actually has quite a lot of similarities with Swedish. As someone who grew up in the north east I was surprised to find when I started learning Swedish I was able to already understand a lot of what was being said. It’s pretty cool. I still remember some video showing a sign in northern England saying something likr “Bairn leika by the creek” or something, or in regular english “Children are playing by the creek”.
If I now write it in Swedish it would be “Barn leker vid bäcken”, it shows how some English dialects are similar, yes! I think the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this last few words were similar as well, but I can’t remember what they were. It says “bairns leck in’t beck”, which makes it even more similar to “barn leker i bäcken”, or “children are playing in the stream”. Nope. Half of the elder generation could, when TV was only 1 channel in Denmark. Many in Jutland watched german TV and many in Zealand watched Swedish TV. My fathers family is from western Jutland and the old generation there all speaks basic german without having learned it in school (since they grew up right after the occupation), and my mothers generation is from Zealand and they all understand swedish quite well (also none of them have had it in school). Today with so much english TV/streaming it’s only those exposed to swedish that understands it. But it IS quite fast to learn, and much faster than danish is for you. I lived 50/50 in Sweden/Denmark for a couple of years and that was enough that I can make myself understandable in Swedish (when you feckers refuse to understand me ) and to understand Swedish if you talk 10% slower than usual, even to this day 10 years without using it.
PS: Our language is the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this worst of north, but how you guys think it sounds like a potato in the mouth is beyond me Hmm maybe I’m just lucky then, but I never have to switch to English when I visit Copenhagen, Skagen or Frederikshavn. They all do have quite a few Swedish tourists though so I guess you get more exposure that way. Isn’t it just that the Swedes you meet refuse to speak slow? That’s often a big problem in my opinion. I’m half Norwegian but I can’t understand my relatives from Bergen when they start going and talk in their regular speed with each other. Spaniard here, Portuguese has sounds that we don’t so if you’re not exposed to them it’s hard for us to understand them. Portuguese has a lot of vowel sounds that Spanish lacks. Also there are consonants missing in Portuguese words that are present in Spanish. For instance Arena is Areia and Luna is Lua. This causes the words to sound garbled to the ears of Spanish speakers. I know because I’ve learned both languages, Spanish first then later Brazilian Portuguese. All the strange vowel sounds was one of hardest parts. Very good question! Same goes to russian and ukrainian (Ukrainians are like Portuguese here). Apparently it is quite common in Europe, wich is very interesting. Also I believe there is a way to answer to that without going into much details like what sounds in particular language are harder to pronounce etc. Isn’t the vocabulary a bit different as well between Ukrainian and Russian? A linguist I once spoke to described Ukrainian as “Polish vocabulary but with Russian grammar”.
You have really good answers here. One point I dont see is effort and exposure. In Portugal since kids we have spanish influences, be cartoons, movies, music, some restaurants, etc. We are used to pass by our neigbours and try to let out some spanish. “Hola como estás?” is almost a mix of portuguese and spanish that both countries understand and in Portugal we tend to joke a bit with this sentences. My personal experience is that the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this same dosent hapen in Spain, we can have 3 or 4 cartoon characters speaking spanish for the sake of it, they will have all of them spanish an 0 portuguese. The exposure of our culture on their side is way less. And then there is the effor part and this I am talking about personal experience here, take it as it is. As I said early im portugal whe tend to like and try the spanish accent, never saw a spanish friend try to even let a portuguese word like “Caralho” (and its one of the words we love to teach to otsiders). Had a teacher in University that she worked ther for 6 year prior to my starting year, every old student tried to get a portuguese word from her, nothing. She literaly teaching in a portuguese university for years withought even haven spoken a portugueses word. She only speaks spanish, fully understands portuguese (I never spoke spanish to her either) and admits that she dosent want to take the effort to try our language “you understand me just fine I have nothign to change, if you dont understan learn spanish we are a way bigger country” was her words when asked. Its not a all spanish are like this, but is my personal experience with this topic.
Behind that is the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this others explanations you got here, probably portuguese is just harder, plus the trade of for them knowing how to speack it is not necessery. This, as a Portuguese person. Whenever we wanna watch some type of international media, unless it’s a children’s movie, we gotta watch it with subtitles or fully in another language. Spanish, English and just Brazilian Portuguese all being options to us. We rarely find things in pt pt. Spain and Brazil are quite big on dubbing stuff so there’s a lot less need for learning other languages/variations of our language. Brazilian Portuguese is almost an accent to us although there’s some different words. Portuguese and Spanish are so similar that originated the most spoken hibrid language in the world, Portunhol. Mostly spoken on the borders between Brasil and Argentina it is also spoken around the border between Portugal and Spain. Funny enough, same thing happens with Brazilian Portuguese. Brazillian Portuguese speakers have difficulty understanding European Portuguese, but not the other way around.
Instead of European Portuguese speakers I should’ve just said Portuguese people, probably more accurate. We can understand Brazilian and Spanish people without problem, but they have a lot of trouble understanding us. Because, Portuguese sounds like Spanish being spoken by deaf person. It’s easy for Portuguese speakers to understand when the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this other speaker is just speaking a language that sounds like their own if it was spoken clearly, but it doesn’t work as well going the opposite direction. Isn’t it curious how Portuguese speakers seem to grasp Spanish effortlessly, while Spanish speakers often struggle with Portuguese comprehension? It’s a linguistic puzzle that has intrigued many. I have no idea mate, but it’s true. Every time I speak with Portuguese people in online games they’re able to understand Spanish. Sometimes they even prefer Spanish rather than English! However when I’m queued with Portuguese people to speak anything but Portuguese (not many tbh) it’s hard for me to understand it. Like, I can get some things but it’s not like the other way around.
Spanish speaker here, albeit as a second language. While I do understand some Portuguese and have no trouble recognizing it when I hear or read it, it’s a challenging language for me. Whereas Spanish is very straightforward and pronounced pretty much the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this way it looks, Portuguese often has all these extra, more elaborate sounds in there. It’s almost like speaking Spanish with extra flair and “zzhuzh” sounds added in. I’ve found that I can usually understand it just fine when I read it, but hearing it is a whole other thing. There’s a high mutual intelligibility between Portuguese and Spanish but it’s asymmetrical. Spanish has less vowels (5) compared to Portuguese (at least 12), so it’s harder for Spanish speakers to understand spoken Portuguese when there’s a larger phonemic inventory and have phonemes that aren’t found in Spanish.
Same with Dutch and German. The ELI5 answer is that Dutch has sounds which German doesn’t have, and also diphthongs and combinations of letters which do not exist in German. You could probably make out half of what is being written. Someone posted something in Portuguese and I was able to make out what they were trying to say. Not 100% of it but I got the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this gist So I got two friends, both Portuguese, Mexico for me, hearing them talk to eachother on discord sounds more Slavic to me than Spanish, vice versa they keep up perfectly fine with my Spanish. I speak spanish and have zero hope of understanding Portuguese. Often I can’t even tell what language it is (without labeling). I can read it no problem though.
Not a native Spanish speaker, but the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this sounds of Portuguese are so different from Spanish, so it’s hard to pick up on what’s being said because the sounds are unfamiliar and there’s nothing to relate them to. I can read and understand a lot in Portuguese, but I can barely understand a word when spoken. One of my ex boyfriends was Brazilian and I could barely understand when he chatted with his roommate. On the converse, if I hear someone speaking Italian, I can understand quite a bit. I’m a native Spanish speaker and I understand Portuguese and Italian fairly well. I cannot speak those languages but I get the point of the conversation easily. That’s how my ex used to finish her sentences after saying all kinds of made shit about me, as if saying that meant all that she said was undeniable. Maybe some people love to hear it, but personally I hate those empty words. They would even sound depressing to someone who feels down, as if nothing ever changes.
Never judge someone till you walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do judge them, you’re a mile away. And you have their shoes. -“Human beings are never going to be perfect, Roy. Best we can do is to keep asking for help, and accepting it when you can. And if you keep on doing that, you’ll always be moving toward better.” -I hope that either all of us, or none of us, are judged by the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this actions of our weakest moments. But rather, by the strength we show when, and if, we’re ever given a second chance. I used to tell my band mates “reach for a star, and touch andromeda” during our pre-show speeches. I knew I’d stolen it from something else though. If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well. “To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch… to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have SUCCEEDED!”
“Creating is the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this greatest proof of being alive.” Got it from a fortune cookie and liked it so much it’s the tagline on the landing page of my website. I keep this in my wallet and it helps to put things into perspective when I’m feeling lazy, afraid, anxious about doing something, etc. If things are going badly it encourages me to go on cuz it might get better. If things are going well it encourages me to prepare/take caution cuz it might get bad. Adds hope when I need it, and humility when I’m feeling hubristic or to slightly temper my risk taking. There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you will still get the same soaking. This understanding extends to everything.
“That’s the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this way she goes, boys. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn’t cause that’s the fucking way she goes.” -Ray from TPB My mentor on relationship: if you learned your lesson, get out of the school and go into society. What are you still doing here? Do you want to mop the floor? Well, he was in the army, so there’s that, but I took it to mean I was putting emphasis/ effort/ time onto unimportant stuff. Whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow. However, that parting may need not last forever… Whether a parting be forever or merely for a short time… That is up to you. During one of my masters degree classes in philosophy, my professor pointed out that “Reality is what objects”. He used the statement in a philosophical context, but to me it holds in real life situations. As much as someone or some people can try to bend their reality, people, social or political institutions to satisfy their own ends, reality always, eventually, perhaps after millions of people are killed, surfaces. “Some of us are pursuing dreams that seem crazy to most but feel like destiny to us. Not everyone will get that.” Rule 2: crap happens. Things occur that are outside of your control. Worrying or crying over them accomplishing nothing. Accept it, learn from it, and move on. “If you aren’t making enemies, you aren’t truly living the definition of life.” (To lazy to remember who said this)
“When things go wrong, don’t go with them. Animals don’t hate, and we’re supposed to be better than them. Truth is like the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this sun” -Elvis Presley The first was Colbert, and it’s basically talking about viewing something you’re stressed about in the moment from 1000ft, like in 10 years, 20 years etc, how big of deal will what you’re worrying about be, most of the time you won’t even notice it or remember it. The second is something Conan said, but basically it’s about being interested in the low hum of happiness, rather than riding and living on the highs and lows of life, you kinda focus in and on the baseline the constant humming that’s often overlooked. Jeremiah 29:11 NLT For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
“The dude abides” my life is just a dumpster fire right now but hey man, in the UMass Minutemen basketball retro Shirt Besides,I will do this grand scheme of things, I’m just some dude, living his life. And someday I’ll be just some dude with his own house and blah blah blah. But I’ll always be some dude to somebody. But I will say a few specific ones, I am not going to bother looking up what technically book and verse each one was because that’s annoying The birds don’t worry about where their next meal is coming from or where they will sleep or anything else so why should you whom God surely considers much greater than a bird It’s kind of like you can’t change the past. The problems you have in front of you you can do something about right now. Paraphrasing here but the in The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck, Mark Mason says something to the effect of “we only have so many fucks to give. They’re not infinite. So we need to decide what is actually worth giving the fucks we have to and what is not” I always picture myself stealing a couple from X to give to Y. Helps me avoid my worry burn out. If I’m out of fucks for the moment, it will have to wait lol ‘Everything happens for a reason’ I take this seriously so I don’t have time for regrets, just moving forward with things Two quotes that I try to live by right now are “you better work bitch and bark like you want it” obviously combined from the words of Brittany Spears and Sir Mix Alot and also “Don’t stop don’t think just do it” from my favorite character in my favorite horror movie It reminds me not to take my progress and well-being for granted. Most individual lives are concrete proof of a triumph over oppressive factors they couldn’t even begin to fully register. If you’ve made it this far then you’ve managed some herculean feats. I think that’s the blessing and the curse of humanity’s capacity for adapting. The extraordinary becomes mundane. As a result we underestimate and discredit ourselves, or allow others to without really surveying the facts.
