I am an introvert who was dragged into a large friend group. Something I notice in this thread is that people don’t seem to know what an extrovert is. Someone who throws themselves around with reckless abandon is not an extrovert, its just a person with no self-awareness, which can be both an introvert and or an extrovert. Silence does not equate intelligence or self-consciousness, it may also mean insecurity, or even the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this opposite. I know plenty of people who are quiet not because they are intelligent but because they are aloof with a high ego. They don’t speak much, but when they do, it’s to quip at someone sarcastiscally or express disinterest in our “common” affairs. Again, people are people, there are shitty sides to both parties, not just extroverts.

The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt: Show Your Love with Style

Extroverts aren’t reckless people. Reckless people are reckless people. Extroverts are basically the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this golden retriever equivalent of humans. They conversate with ease and carry themselves well. They attract attention because of their upbeat and flowy nature. Quite literally being the facilitator for the group by initiating activities and conversations. One thing I like about them is that they call each other out. In my introvert group, someone could spit out something absolutely horrendous, and everyone would just silently move on. Whereas my extrovert friends would rather challenge the idea and debate an answer. Introverted does not mean definite self-concsious or self-aware and intelligent. Anyone who struggles with social anxiety, shyness, or lack of communication skills can be an introvert. Similar to Extroverts. The only difference is one side gains motivation and energy from being in a group whilst the other starts off strong but slowly dwindles and needs to tap out sooner. I personally wish I were extroverted. They seem wiser to me because of their ability to communicate and understand human social cues and navigate a conversation. They learn a lot by questioning and talking to strangers and each other. They have both the benefit of being able to indulge in knowledge via books and the Internet as well as through the general public. Sorry for the rant.
I’ve known way too many introverts that are just as stupid as extroverts, you don’t notice that much because they don’t speak very much that’s all. Thirty years of teaching high school has given me time to reflect on this issue. I don’t completely understand it but here is my takeaway. The higher you go up the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this IQ scale, the more likely someone is to be on the spectrum. Some of my brightest students have been socially aware. Some of my students on the spectrum have been lower IQ. However, an inordinate amount of my most academically capable students have been geeks who have issues with social communication. If you take your kid in to be evaluated for ASD, they will also do an IQ test because it is believed that giftedness is a characteristic of ASD.

More about this The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt

That doesn’t mean that if you ASD, you’re gifted, or vice versa. Just that if you are gifted, there’s a higher chance that you may also be on the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this spectrum. I have always felt there was a bit of a trade off. As your analytical intellect goes up, your emotional intellect goes down. I am a pretty smart guy and I have figured out how to get along people and make them laugh, but I’m always in my head and have a tough time maintaining relationships. I think the problem is once you intellect you start applying it to everything, including emotional situations and responses. But almost by definition a lot of emotions and relationship cues are subconscious, and normally people just let them happen. They arnt examining why x makes person y act in z and then extrapolating that data to try and develop a theory of their mind, they just go along with their subconscious instincts to act in a certain way. Can we end the introvert v. extrovert thing? It’s complete pseudoscience invented by a guy with no basis in any sort of real science. People get drained at different times of their lives with different people depending on context. I might spend a ton of time with, and feel really rejuvenated by seeing a friend I haven’t seen in a long time. I might be incredibly emotionally drained by seeing my mother for only an hour. If I haven’t seen anyone in a long time, seeing people is energizing. If I haven’t been alone in a long time, seeing people is exhausting. Introverts don’t mind spending a significant amount of time alone learning a particular skill, so they tend to be more “gifted” in a certain area. There are also studies that suggest that introverts think differently thane extroverts and use different parts of their brain more, but none of this means that extroverts are any less intelligent on average.
Like all stereotypes it probably has some truth to it. Logically speaking if someone is introverted then they have to spend all their time doing something that isn’t socializing right? Now if that’s smoking pot and playing video games all day you probably won’t see the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this same results as someone who spends all their time reading physics textbooks. I wonder how difficult it is for geniuses to interact with the rest of us. Honestly, we must bore them to tears ,unless they happen to be gracious. I have a high IQ and am very smart about some things. But I’m also clueless about a lot more things. In my experience, lots of people with average IQ’s are also very smart about some things. If we’re smart about the same things, conversations can be very lively and entertaining. If they’re smart about the things I’m clueless about, conversations can be fascinating and educational. There are always people who are just dull as dishwater, but I haven’t found that to correlate with intelligence. It’s more related to lack of curiosity and low empathy. The folks who don’t know and don’t care—they’re the ones who bore me to tears.
I agree, I was being a bit flippant. There are all kinds of intelligence, and one of my favourite things to do is to point out to people how smart they are – and it often comes as a surprise to them. It’s true. Some have described it as being an adult permanently stuck at the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this “kiddie table.” Even if they are super gracious etc, it must get old. The problem is that communication becomes more difficult as the IQ gap between parties grows. It’s why studies show most people don’t like their boss if it turns out their boss is more than 25 IQ points above them / most people with an IQ over 130 are thought of as poor communicators by the people who don’t understand them. Now of course the genius can learn to “dumb down” their comms, but that’s back to the exhausting kiddy table metaphor.
I think a big part of the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this problem, implicit in the OP’s question, is that we don’t acknowledge the types of intelligence that people display: emotional, somatic, spiritual, etc. So intellect becomes the big measure, and everything else becomes secondary. I was chatting with friends, going on about some book I’d read. One of the dudes was really shy, and mumbled that he doesn’t read, he watches videos. So, I told him that both are basically substitutes for gathering around the campfire and sharing stories – his face lit up, he smiled like “this guy gets it”, and we had a good long conversation. I have a near genius IQ and I love spending time around other people. I think all of my friends are smart and interesting people and the fact that I’m particularly gifted at mathematics doesn’t really affect my relationships with others at all. Genius is a wide range though, 140 IQ and up, so I imagine it’s a little different for people at the extreme end of the scale. (I also don’t believe that IQ is that important and certainly not holistic, I just know mine because I was sent for testing in school). I will say that I find people with low scientific literacy, critical thinking skills, and empathy difficult to be around, especially over the last few years. IYKYK
I’m with you on all this – people with high IQ score well on IQ tests. There are certainly lots of types of intelligence. I was being a bit cheeky with my comment, but you hit the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this nail on the head with the second paragraph. I guess it’s unknowledgeable people insisting they have informed opinions. Non-gendered ” ‘splaining”. Well I can’t carry on a conversation with most people at all. Like nada. Unless it’s about math or music theory. Stereotype, Mensa has more extraverts than introverts. It is pretty much split in half so there is no real correlation That’s why. People who join MENSA are the ones who want to validate their intelligence and want to show it off to others. I agree with that. I would also add that people with a higher EQ may not want to join Mensa because they likely don’t need validation badly enough to pay for it. Emotional orientation occurs independently of intelligence. The so-called “emotional intelligence” is just intelligence combined with a certain personality type. Or so says Jordan Peterson, who I tend to trust here because he’s a clinical psychologist. It’s a side-effect of being bullied by moronic football jocks all through school and being marked wrong on exams for insightful answers. You slowly get the understanding that there’s little point interacting with anyone.
Not a lot of people realise this, but you can only have meaningful conversations with people within 2 standard deviations (30 IQ points) of you. You literally can’t relate to people outside that range. Genius level is more than 2 standard deviations. This means that these people cannot have any sort of meaningful interactions with over 50% of the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this human population. How can you possibly be energised by being around other people when 50% of them you can’t have any sort of meaningful conversation with? Lol Myers Briggs is a huge scam. Literally the entire “personality types” thing is extremely sus and downright pseudo science. It’s not. And you’re wrong. Intelligence as measured by IQ is the the most accurate predictor in all of psychology; personality types is a close second. It absolutely is pseudoscience. If you don’t agree, perhaps you can provide the scientific evidence on which it is based. Provide legitimate sources?! God no, you just have to trust him because he’s clearly very high IQ and introverted!! If you ever had to commute to work on a highway in a dense metropolitan area, I’d think that you’d easily be able to answer this question on your own.
I think those are the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this people that dont have the people skills to market their intelligence. So we get the people who are using them marketing them that way. A genius with people skills is much more likely to be trying to hide in plain sight. i’m an intelligent introvert however in my experience anyone who i deem to also be intelligent are typically extroverted I know some really exhausting very smart people. Family especially. Holy shit mom. I’m exhausted just being her daughter. She won’t shut the fuck up. Can barely walk, looks like she should be dead, endless stuff to talk about. So I don’t know how smart I am I’ve never really considered myself intelligent, but if the pokers and prodders from my youth are to be trusted my intelligence was quantified as 99th percentile. Their stupid prodding couldn’t even provide a concrete number for yours truly. Anywho throughout most of my life I struggled to make connections with others until late teenage years where I really evolved into a social butterfly and relished every conversation I had with folks and would actively seek out people to converse with and understand. My primary interest were the “dregs of society” addicts, alcoholics, homeless, the deranged, and the insane. Unfortunately my travels and curiosity led me to suffer a variety of abused at the hands of others before I’d even have the fortune of reach the ripe old age of 18. Now sometimes thing break and those things can’t be fixed. As a result of my actions I developed a very deep seated fear of everything from sudden sound to the movements of shadows. It wasn’t till a few months ago which I suppose would be roughly 15 years since the greatest of my tragedies, that I decided it would be ok to return to being myself and set about rewiring my brain, and behavior patterns to become a social butterfly and knowledge seeker, for no other reason than because I enjoy learning. So I don’t know if reading any of this helps but. From an extremely young age, it was apparent that something was very different between me and the others and this distinction CAN lead to introvertion or extroversion it’s all very hush hush and subjective to the user. Heck the user might not even be aware of why their behavior patterns are the way they are. Our subconscious be programming them with the goal of protecting us more often than id personally care for. I remember testing into mensa at a very young age and being overwhelming disappointed to not find peers there. I think that’s what spurred my interest in the outcasts of society and that’s what ultimately led to my self-denial and self-destruction. Sure others held the torches and pitchforks but I’m the one that put em into their hands
TL:DR that which separates us can be what brings us together or drives us apart. It is a choice. Hopefully we can all find a way to make the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this right one. Social Anxiety Disorder and a fear of being alone (Autophobia, Anxious Attachment) manifest from a need for external validation (acceptance and security from others). It is often rooted in trauma and how we were raised as children into teens, and it can be very difficult to overcome. I feel like it’s generally true, anyone smart enough will avoid all the unnecessary bullshit being around lots of people brings. I don’t think they’re introverted per say. But, they probably have a hard time finding someone to connect with. Being highly intelligent is supposed to be quite a lonely experience. Interesting question. I may be introverted, but nobody has ever accused me of being a genius yet.Who would these hypothetical geniuses talk to in a world of sub-sufficiency? Each other? For what? (Rhetorical) It is quite an opposite if speak about succesfull “geniuses” – it is very rare or even impossible to have any meaningfull impact in any field if you are not socially adept. Majority of the known top scientists or artists had to have been pretty high on their social ladder. You dont get funding, opportunities or publishers when being introverted secluded genius.. Most people that think they are gifted are not!I think introverts are just more likely to spend all day doing STEM stuff. Leading to them being overrepresented in STEM fields. Not because they are smarter but because they spend friday night at home coding instead of going out with friends like extroverts.
Its the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this stereotype but I can see why it exists. Introverts are usually the nerds and the bookworms so the more you educate yourself the better you develop skills. Introverts have a vast pool of knowledge from the content they consume during their alone time, extroverts from the other hand withdraw more knowledge through experience and social circles. it’s a bit of a stereotype to say that most intellectually gifted people are introverted. while some might be more into their own thoughts or like chilling solo, there’s a whole mix of personalities among gifted folks, just like everyone else. Ofc someone who spends more time alone on thier personal interests are going to seem smart on a particular subject. I was deeply, dysfunctionally introverted until I started drinking in high school. Now I’m a struggling standup comedian in her forties who drinks too much.
You wouldn’t really identity most geniuses unless you are one too. And most couldn’t be bothered to be known as a genius and they just want to fit in, which is often with an average crowd, so they aren’t really giving off any signs that they’re a genius. Two people could be discussing AI algorithms and appear to be geniuses to a non technical person, but nah, they’re just AI specialists in data science. To me, geniuses are exceptionally rare. They’re the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this kind of people that lock down the math to land a rocket on a barge. Or the math that made scientists realize the atomic bomb could be made, etc. When your thinking is at this level it’s difficult to find others with whom you can be open and feel understood.
It’s like the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this old saying: “It’s better to keep silent and be thought a fool, than to opens one’s mouth and prove it” lol Smart people tend to be introverted because they got teased in school because other kids are jealous of how well gifted children do without even trying. Also there’s the reality that constantly trying to explain everything to everyone else and tell them why they’re wrong is exhausting, it’s just not worth the effort. I think, when two people of similar intelligence, one introverted and one extroverted are compared, the extrovert may seem to be less intelligent, as he tends to be not as selective about the thoughts he shares. A dumb sentence is way more likely to be remembered by others than a smart sentence, as people always like to judge. Because of this, an introvert may always seem smarter as an extrovert with similar intelligence. Does that make sense?
I feel like Steven Hawkins or whoever would gladly hang out with 20 other Steven Hawkins, but prefers seclusion over being around people who are in comparison near brain death. 130 is genius, that’s 30 points or two standard deviations above average. If you’re average would you rather go to a gathering where everyone else has an IQ of 70 or stay in your room? From my own perspective, I’m a genius because some numbers somewhere once said I was, blah blah. I’m very outgoing and extroverted. I can socialize with just about anyone in any situation and I thrive in the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this spotlight. I’m just one guy, though, so it doesn’t really mean a whole lot. IQ isn’t really a predictor of charisma as much as intellectual speed. Someone can have a high IQ and not be very charismatic, but can have a lower IQ but be quicker thinkers, which is more likely to result in extroversion/charisma/confidence. I knew a guy who was among top users in MENSA He was so good at math that he taught my math teacher how to help us in class better.
The schools threw that genius word around a lot when I was a kid. Worst thing they could have done. Spent my life trying to live up to it. I’m an introvert as a rule and while there’s some evidence of me being above average theres a lot more that points to me being dumber than a stump… An extroverted genius would be like Elon Musk without the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this awkwardness and purchased publicity, the world couldn’t handle it. Imagine genuinely liking Elon musk. Of course you can, but only because your misinformed or missing knowledge. “genius level intellect” is often referencing your performance on IQ tests, which have certain biases towards specific types of intelligences (Math, Logic, Vocabulary) that you do often see boosted in non-neuro-typical people on the spectrum for instance. When you aren’t born with an innate ability to pick up on social cues, it follows you would probably be an introvert by default. So, that is one chunk of the geniuses who would fall int othe stereotype of being introverted.
Another goes in the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this opposite direction: A lot of socially adept extremely intelligent people have other accomplishments that they would rather be known for. The most intelligent people I know excelled at academics, sports music and language and were VERY social. However, they don’t fit the stereotype, so I wouldn’t think to label them as “genius level” intellect even though they are. And that also means people who identify as geniuses who aren’t particularly accomplished (my ex’s dad for instance) tend to get very bitter about it. After decades of being told you’re special, only to find out intellect alone only gets you so far, you become kind of bitter and introverted. Think of the grumpy professor. The stereo type can become sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
As someone who has been labeled as a gifted kid, I can tell you that the The Beach Bar St. Patricks Day 2025 Whos Your Paddy St. John U.S. Virgin Islands Painting shirt also I will do this more time that you have to yourself, the more time you can spend studying and observing the world around you. Socializing doesn’t often bring about cognitive clarity and introspection unless you are socializing with other intelligent people who are experts at something you are not and something you are interested in learning yourself. Socializing does however build emotional intelligence and social skills, this can be something that plays a part in overall intelligence, but if it’s your main, or only focus to socialize, you miss out on the introspection it takes to build these and other skills concerning overall cognitive ability. YMMV as we all have different modes of learning that we are most comfortable with, but for me personally, balance is key when it comes to the introvert/extrovert aspect of intelligence.
