I know a lot more Chican@s and Mexican-Americans in California who are proud of their Mexican roots and who back their Mexican immigrant family members, friends, and community members, as opposed the SAMURAI Picture Shirt but in fact I love this the smaller percentages that do not, so I’m not sure what part(s) of California you are referring to. On the other hand, I do know more Mexican-Americans from Red States that fit the description you wrote and that feel somehow superior to newer immigrants (which is really just masked insecurities) and who vote conservative. California, Central Valley. Especially around Visalia (where my family is and thus why I know them). But they are older for what that’s worth (my mom grew up there so I’m talking about her friends and adopted “family” mostly. Though the children my age are largely politically conservative too, as far as I know.

SAMURAI Picture Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

Edit to add, and it’s not that they aren’t proud of being Mexican American, or of their culture. Not at all. It’s that they very specifically don’t want any more Mexicans coming to America, because they agree with that “not sending their best” sensibility. THEIR parents were fine of course, but all the SAMURAI Picture Shirt but in fact I love this other people coming now are criminals and to be feared, just like Trump says. I don’t understand the psychology of it, but I’ve heard it from their own mouths my whole life, and continue to see it on their social media. I have seen this, not a whole lot, but I have no problem telling them “trump says you’re not white enough for this country, he wants you to go back where you came from.” They were sitting outside Walmart trying to collect signatures for some stupid shit for Trump, and were shocked enough to not have a reply.
