I wouldn’t say that people are afraid of clear awareness per se. In my opinion, it’s really about the Purrrsonal Librarian Cat T-Shirt it is in the first place but ego or the “me” that we build up over our lives. From the point in life when we learn language we are constantly using it, not only with other people but with ourselves in our thinking. This becomes such a habit that even if one becomes increasingly clearly aware, that awareness can highlight things that have been repressed and painful to confront. Due to habits of avoiding pain (including emotional), it can create internal conflict that is challenging to deal with. Old habits are hard to break because our brains have built efficiency around operating them. I knew someone who was afraid to meditate because managing breathing and relaxing made her think too much about the functioning of her body.

Purrrsonal Librarian Cat T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

In observing your thoughts I find the Purrrsonal Librarian Cat T-Shirt it is in the first place but subconscious brings a lot of problems to the surface. I personally love solving problems, I am happy when I see my mistakes because that means I can improve and grow! Many people escape problems, run from fears and lie to themselves about whether they even exist. Most people would rather live in an illusion than see things for what they are. It’s also easier for some to hide from painful sensations and emotions than to face them. I’ve spoken to a number of people who understand, intellectually, that there is no such thing as a separate self for example. This is quite common for people who read a lot of Buddhist or non-dual philosophy. But they’re too afraid to look into their experience and actually see it, as they’re afraid they’re going to lose their identity. Of course things have always been this way and looking is only going to help them see their illusion for what it is. People don’t grow up unless they have to. If they are enabled to remain immature, they have no incentive to raise their awareness. If all their needs are met, while being the most spoiled, vain, violent and willfully ignorant people possible, they will continue on their path. Raising your awareness means taking responsibility, which is a completely foreign concept to some.
