I kind of miss technicolor. Old color films were so rich and vibrant and now so many seem washed out in comparison even though we have far more tools at our disposal. That’s color grading and they’re doing it on purpose. It’s something most people don’t know is done to movies for quite some time now thanks to our fancy modern technology. They can change the Four Twenty Work Free Drug Place shirt and I love this colors after the fact, and they can make the colors look like anything they want. Fellowship of the Four Twenty Work Free Drug Place shirt and I love this Ring is my go to example of it being used to actually set tone and differentiate different settings and emotional states. It was one of the first ones I knew of that used digital grading and it was impressive how it was used to accentuate in camera lighting choices, scene by scene, rather than to just slap across the whole thing after. The matrix was a pretty clear example too, where it was used to denote real world vs in the matrix (more grey vs more green) Seeing the production videos of them using color correction for more vibrant and varied color is one of those things that makes me think “man, what are we even doing now?” Yep. Looking at all the cookie cutter new apts while driving today I thought just that. Washed out grey and meh, just like many recent movies.
