So the guy sees me and he’s like “oh we need to call border patrol” while I’m setting up the gates…at which point you put the pallet back up and left him standing. Right. RiGHT? I’ve dealt with a lot of racist and sexist customers of various races and various cultures and ethnicities. Also, people who are just flat out ignorant and entitled moronic assholes. It comes with dealing with the public. You’ll either have to develop a thicker skin or look for something else. You’ve been lucky to have been kind of shielded from this until this point, many people are faced with it from day one onwards especially if they’re in a customer facing position where they deal with a large number of people. I’ve experienced silent racism where they’ll speak, acknowledge, greet, and make eye contact with white employees but ignore poc employees, I’m a Latino male. Can’t do much so I just do my best to send them on their way as quick as possible. My coworker who’s older than me said “They’re already suffering, if they can find the energy to take time out of their day to be willingly disrespectful and racist then that should give you some perspective into their intelligence.” And ever since then I keep that in my mind and just say a prayer for them. It still sucks though, random encounters with racism leaves me feeling shaken, but I’m also glad when they’re out of sight.
