My grandpa didn’t talk about his WWII service until he was about 90 years old, he always said he got there after the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this war was over and didn’t have to do anything. Turns out he was a POW camp guard in Okinawa. My grandfather joined the navy at 13. Family was dirt poor, 4 kids and a single mother left penniless by my asshole GGF. You could join with a parent’s signature if you were 15. He started smoking to look/seem older and she got him signed up. He was not the youngest ever, there was a boy younger in the Civil War, who served his whole life and retired like a colonel or general. Calvin Graham was the youngest WW2 service member. After he was discharged he married at like 14 and divorced before rejoining the Marines. His full honors were restored by an act of Carter, but his full medical benefits were restored under Reagan, with one exception. They would only reimburse proven medical treatments with receipts, so he was only reimbursed like $2k because his treating physician had died and records were lost.

Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt- About us

I’d understand the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this mistake if he looked like this 12 year old stripping him of his medals though. Not like the heroism he displayed was any less valid being under the age of admission. It’s not like he was secretly buying lotto tickets or anything. More just charging on Japanese machine gun nests and the like in some of the worst battles of the pacific campaign. Joined army after croatian division hanged his father, mother, grandmother, 4 brothers and 3 sisters, he was just 8 years old. “According to his son Branislav, Momčilo Gavrić had an incident with the law in 1929. He was working in Šabac and Belgrade when he reached the age of conscription, and at the military barracks in Slavonska Požega, he reported that he already had been in the army during the war. He also said that he had been wounded, and had received the Albanian Commemorative Medal. However, an ethnic Croat in the Royal Yugoslav Army tried to push Gavrić into signing a confession that he had told a lie. He refused, and was sent to prison, spending two months there.”
My mom was 12 when WWII started. About 5 years ago she said she wondered how many US WWII vets were still alive. I think at the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this time it was about 300,000. It’s now 119,000 out of 16.1 million. About 131 US WWII vets die every day. The youngest vet to serve was Graham, but he died when he was only 62. There’s a support group for all the US vets who lied about their age to get into the service. Unless Bob Kelso died in the past 2 years, he’s the youngest living WWII vet. He enlisted at age 13.

How to buy this Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt

His enlistment was considered fraudulent. It was voided, per the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this Navy regulations. From the US Government’s perspective, he never enlisted. No enlistment, no discharge, no benefits, no medals. Never happened. Thereupon on April 5, 1943, the enlistment of Calvin Leon Graham was canceled. Since the enlistment was considered void, upon cancellation of his enlistment and release from the Navy he was paid no accrued pay and allowances and no travel allowance. Also, since his enlistment was considered void, he was given no credit for the military service for the period August 16, 1942, to April 5, 1943 (7 months and 13 days including 4 months and 16 days of foreign and/or sea service), and no mustering-out pay.
His medals were …stripped? By the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this corps that he fought for…? Weird. Aged 12, or 80, if he did things to deserve those medals I don’t see why they should’ve been revoked & taken. There’s so many more stories to know about Calvin’s life. I don’t think “mom” saw him on a newsreel, she was just a bitch who squealed on him. He and his bro had moved into a boarding house to get away from the abusive home. He took a face full of shrapnel so his medical benefits were stripped too. He married and divorced by 17 then joined the Marines! He died of CHF at 62 but the Purple Heart was finally given to his widow. The Navy needs to give his medals back to him, he earned them the same as anyone else did, albeit very underage lmao. He went in with some friends that were 14-16 singing up. He kind of slipped in with that group. The dentist inspecting his teeth gave him some shit about how young he was but let him though.
Holy shit – Guadalcanal was one of (if not THE) hardest battles in the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this Pacific theatre. Come on!!!! I hope his citations were reinstalled! “Whoops, it looks like you performed these acts of heroism at an age a few years below the limit. We therefore decide your actions were not heroic and strip you of your medals” Look up the 14 year old 82nd airborne WW2 paratrooper who jumped into combat twice only for his mom or parents to find out he joined He may have had a rare genetic mutation that causes testotoxicosis, also known as precocious puberty. The writer of the attached article had this mutation as did his father and grandfather who was able to join the military in his early teens. A 4 year old trapped in a teenagers body.
It’s ironic there’s people here that wouldn’t agree about a 12 year old not being old enough to do any other things but agree with this story being fine. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter reinstated Graham’s military honors—minus the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this Purple Heart—and granted him an honorable discharge for his Navy service Any reason why the Purple heart was intentionally left out? it was reinstated later, but it seems weird to be left out. It’s absolutely insane to think, that back then you could just be like “yup, I’m 18,” and they’d just hand you papers and then send you to one of the most horrific battles of all time. My grandpa was a dentist at an induction station in WW2. They were often the ones that caught the underage kids trying to enlist. They could usually tell your age by looking at the molars. My Pop Pop lied about his age to enlist to impress my Mom Mom who was just his girlfriend at the time. He was 17. He was a combat medic and took a bullet in the Battle of the Bulge while he was sewing up injured soldiers under heavy machine gun fire. They tried to give him a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star and he declined because he told his mom he was a Chaplain’s assistant and was very far from the front lines. He had to find battlefield witness to testify that he declined the medals and to his actions that day and got the medals when he was in his 60s
If he was outed while he was still underage, just give him an honorable discharge and let him re-enlist when he’s the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this right age. Then count his previous service towards his total years of service. It was so easy not to screw up that situation. Stripped? They should have given him another medal! But then again, they probably don’t want to admit they enlisted a 12 year old. Or encourage other children to join… except via video games. How did he end up joining and passing at 12??? Run away from home, walk in smoking a cigarette and holding a coffee saying that they stunted his growth? Man, meanwhile, my grandfather at 16 got injured by a nearby explosion during training for the Navy and they got his real age in the hospital and gave him an “other than honorable” discharge before he could even get deployed. Some kids have all the fun.
He was supposedly bigger for his age. That plus, at the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this time lots of kids were malnourished/not properly fed, so they were undersized, he blended in with other 16-17 year olds that were signing in early. The real problem was the dentist, you cant fake that. But he blackmailed him saying that he already cleared all the other 16-17 year olds, so he best clear him too. When people say there are no atheists in foxholes I think about my friend who lied about his age at 15 and enlisted ton the Navy. He admitted you can’t dig a foxhole into a destroyer deck but said he wanted to try. There wasn’t a DCS back then and think how bad it was to be called abuse in the 1940’s when you were expected to physically discipline children.
By 17, the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this “baby vet” was a divorced father with few job prospects and no service record. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1948, serving for three years before breaking his back in a fall. While his Corps service allowed Calvin Graham to qualify as a veteran, he spent the rest of his life fighting for his benefits and awards. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter reinstated Graham’s military honors—minus the Purple Heart—and granted him an honorable discharge for his Navy service. President Ronald Reagan later approved disability benefits for Graham. I can just imagine the naval officer that recruited him pretending to be surprised when he’s told that the obviously 12 year old kid is not a strapping lad of 18. How does one earn medals in the navy? 8 medals at age 12 sounds like a lot; either the kid was a phenomenon or medals are kinda participation trophies (inb4 permaban for disrespect army folks)
In World War II, he earned the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, a Navy Unit Commendation with a service star for his ship’s service at the battle of Santa Canal, an American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two service stars, and a World War II Victory Medal. In Korea he earned a Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and a Republic of Korea War Service Medal. In terms of medals awarded for actions in combat, he along with the entire crew of the USS South Dakota were awarded a Navy Unit Commendation Medal for the ship’s performance during the battle of the Santa Cruz and a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for him getting injured during the battle of Guadalcanal while delivering a message to an officer.
Man, I went to middle school with some beasts. But none of them were being mistaken for an adult or an 18 yr old. Why would Carter reinstate his medals but not the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this Purple Heart? That seems one of the more easy medals to qualify for. Why treat it differently? It is one of the most revered military decorations in the U.S. and presumably they were concerned about criticism for awarding it to someone who had lied during their enlistment. But this is just speculation on my part. Youngest known NCO of WWI was Brace Beemer, who joined the US army at 14. Later became the Lone Ranger on radio. I wonder how tall he was. A mature looking 12 year old could probably be mistaken for a young looking 16 year old. Interesting that the dentist caught him and his friends, I didn’t even think about that as a barrier before reading the article. My grandfather was 15 at the time and fought in the navy. Wild how easy it was to get into the military if you looked old enough. These are my awards, Mother. From Army. The seal is for marksmanship, and the gorilla is for sand racing. Now if you’ll excuse me, they’re putting me in something called Hero Squad. There was a Made for TV movie about him made back in the 80’s, with Ricky Schroeder (not plugging the guy, because ugh, but it was a good movie, at least I thought so back then).
My step-grandfather was an underage veteran and he was 14 when he enlisted and went to war. No one knew. He already looked old for his age, but after a year at war he looked a lot older. His age was never found out though until after he left the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this military and got into the VA system. He even had the “Underage Veteran” license plate on his car that my state gave as an option to underage vets. The Wikipedia article on him has some significant differences in his discharge story than those presented in the USO article: Graham’s mother revealed his age after he traveled to his grandmother’s funeral in Texas (he arrived a day late) without permission from the Navy, for which he spent three months in a Texas brig. He was released after his sister threatened to contact the newspapers. Although he had tried to return to his ship, he was discharged from the Navy on April 1, 1943, and his awards were revoked. Times were different at that point in history. My uncle Johnny started working in the steel mill at the age of 12 after his father died. He was big for his age and his pay supported his entire family – his mom and several siblings.
My husband’s grandfather lied about his age in order to fight in WW2. He said he was 17 despite being 12. He was in the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this Navy as well, working as a deck hand that helped install ammunition & such. He passed away in 2012. I don’t believe he won any medals or anything but we have interesting picket signs my husband & his aunt & dad held up during the Veteran’s parade that year with his Navy picture on it. Alright I get taking him out of the service but to strip him of his medals that he rightfully deserved for putting his life on the line is crazy. Like come on bruh I personally think medals should be kept as the boy or adult used his life changed for them though he lied about age. “Dear mom, summer camp is a lot of fun. There is a lot of Japhappenings. My good friend was killed thrilled right before my eyes. I’ve earned lots of medals badges.
Nothing happen to the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this mom? Cuz you know her son was missing for that long to fight a war and she just thought he went out for milk. To discourage other young boys from thinking they can be honored heroes too, they don’t want to encourage child soldiers. Thing is, he’d already earned those medals through valorous service, as a disabled combat vet myself, I am disgusted by her vitriol. She only wanted to see him suffer more It was the military who stripped his medals, for PR reasons. They can’t admit they enlisted a child and are cool with it. Why would you jump to thinking she wanted her son to “suffer more” before thinking a mother might not want her 12 year old child to be at war? Veterans already come home fucked and forgetting… imagine adding betrayal and years of survivor’s guilt and PTSD with no recognition of what brought you to that point. War is hell but so is coming home and being discarded. What fucking betrayal? He was 12, his mother calling attention to that ain’t a betrayal, the government letting a 12 year old get shipped to war is the betrayal you lunatic. Did you read what was written or simply jump off the high dive into the abyss? And yes, after seeing what I’ve seen, and doing what I did… I am a lunatic but be grateful no one “with their good intentions” (such as having no clue where their son is whilst he fights in a war… I digress) decided to have my access to mental health professionals removed and every medal I earned in hell taken from me, leaving my broken and destitute. Heaven forbid he would’ve had: VA, GI Bill, and housing loan that could’ve aided his troubled life. But you know, lunacy and what not.
Yes, you claimed some woman you’ve never met wanted her child to “suffer more” because she did not want her 12 year old son to be at war. Oh! You took it personally on someone else’s behalf…who is long deceased? Even after the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this man had a shitty life afterwards that would have been significantly better had his deeds been recognized? Cool. Guess beatings in the boarding house was preferable. Or maybe living with a step dad who you ran away from? All the best options were at his feet, huh? Suffer more than shrapnel to the face while friends around you perish? He was already enlisted, having him brought home makes sense; as well as the subsequent cover up by the Navy but that doesn’t take away from his actions. Sure. But you have repeatedly said that her intention was to hurt the kid. You then contradict that by using a tired old idiom. Get your fucking story straight.
Why would you assume that? Vitriol? It’s pretty obvious she was trying to save his life. It’s terrible that he was stripped of his benefits, but the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this government did that, not his mom. She would be a pretty terrible mother if she hadn’t gotten him out of there. they were definitely knowingly taking kids under 18 (ie go walk around the block until you are 18) but 12 yeah thats a bit young “His enlistment in the Marines also ended early when he fell from a pier and broke his back in 1951 during the Korean war.[8] Although serving in the Marine Corps qualified him as a veteran, he would spend the rest of his life fighting for full medical benefits and clearing his military service record.” I dislike it when people say „he got awarded this and that many medals“ like they just got the number from Wikipedia. The only medal he personally got awarded are his Bronze Star and his Purple Heart.
I heard in the Disney Minnie Numbers 4 Fourth 4th Birthday Party Gift Shirt Additionally,I will love this military, we now accept out of shape and emotionally unstable recruits. This kid probably did better than the new guys lol! I was 14, just a little older than Bobby. But I knew Uncle Sam needed me, so I lied and signed up. We had beat the Nazzys in Italy, and they shipped me to the Pacific theater. A Tojo torpedo sent our troop ship to the bottom. I could only save three of my buddies: Fatty, Stinky, and Brooklyn. They were kind of like you fellas only one of them was from Brooklyn. Out of the sun came a Tojo Zero and put fitty bullets in my back. The blood attracted sharks. I had to give ’em Fatty. Then things took a turn for the worse. I made it to an island, but it was full of Tojos! They were spitting on the U.S. flag! So I rushed ’em, but it was a trap. They opened fire and blew my shins off. Last thing I remember, I beat ’em all to death with a big piece of Fatty. I woke up in a field hospital, and they were sewing my feet to my knees. To discourage other children from thinking they could be honored heroes too, thereby discouraging child soldiers.
