It’s expensive and annoying! I always wonder this when I see elderly customers struggle to take their meal to their car and then they drive off. Seems dangerous af Because it would be an insanely huge undertaking. Here in the UK there is already several months wait time for a driving test, now imagine how bad it would be if everyone over 65 had to take one every 5 years. As long as the elderly are willing to pay increased insurance premiums on account of their age & reduced faculties, they won’t be tested again unless absolutely required. They bring in too much bank & being retested might put them off. American infrastructure is heavily road based. Lots of families move away from their elderly and don’t provide them assistance on a regular basis. Unless someone is willing to shell out large sums of money to get someone to do all the driving that needs to be done (which can be necessary to go somewhere 2 miles away), then it’s hard to take away elderly driving privileges without causing massive problems.

I’m in Australia and in my state after 75 they need a medical assessment every year to keep their license. There are plenty of people who’re with it, healthy, fit and driving into their late 80s, which is great, and there are some people who have to stop driving much sooner than that.
