Same thing happened to me recently. I recently had a friend with a rip in their passport, must have travelled to dozens of countries with it, no problem. Vietnam wouldn’t let him in. He ended up doing a DIY patch job to seal the rip (printed out the same pattern, lined it up exactly etc) and it was fine.

BUT you’d be able to leave. I’d say to bring your passport, flights and attempts to leave the country and explain that to immigration when you leave. They might take a pity and fine you not too much money (not confirmed). But yea, prepare to pay up if you overstay your visa.
