I’ve travelled in Milan, Venice, Rome, Calabria, Genova the lakes etc and you see people eating and drinking outside. But I remember in Naples walking into a Piazza and it was just filled to bursting with people standing round with beers / spritz like it was some kind of outdoor party or festival. It wasn’t, it was just a normal weekday night and the local bars served drinks to go. Also lots of little kiosks to buy a spritz and walk.
Tamarindo, costa rica – so trashy, full of cigarette smoke, dust, and American tourists. Yeah. There are even nicer/fancier neighbourhoods (e.g. San Isidro) but if you’re going for the Boston Your Friends Say Boston’s Beautiful Have Heart Shirt in addition I really love this food, chances are most of the top rated restaurants you’d be interested in will be in Miraflores (San Isidro is next to Miraflores anyway). Try to be in between the Larco Mar shopping mall and the Kennedy park if you want to be within walking distance of the “fun”. If you want a quieter/fancier area of Miraflores but a bit further away there’s La Aurora. The buildings on the seaside around Larco Mar are also an excellent option. Barranco imo has better food amd is more reasonably priced than Miraflores. It also has more charming streets and is just as safe. I spent 1 month there and vastly preferred baranco to miraflores. Ok, good to know. Both areas are common for young working professionals though? Seems Miraflores is a little more convenient to central Lima? How about little coastal areas in that part? I’ll be there for 5 days next month.

There are loads of other neighbourhoods with so much to offer if you just get off the tourist trail. For sure didn’t see any other cities, but also wasn’t really worried about petty theft either. Utilizing common sense city logic, I was able to leave with all my belongings. That’s good but Barcelona is notorious (even for Spaniards) for it’s unbelievably high pick pocket and petty thefts Langkawi. I stayed in Kuah to avoid the tourist side a bit, and locals were so miserable and unfriendly. The island was riddled with massive tour busses, so any of the tourist attractions were full. I had such high hopes but really hated it. Just wasn’t for me.

The “tourist” attractions were meh and even my friends from there had trouble coming up with anything entertaining to do outside of going to Samal Island. Well I count it. My first time in Mexico. Booked a luxury apartment with no running water, dirty sheets, no working wifi. I was supposed to spend 5-6 days there but after the first day, I kinda noped out and did the Ha Giang Loop which was the best decision I could’ve made. I was in Hanoi in Februaryish so it was cold, damp, rainy, polluted and chaotic. In contrast, I really liked Ho Chi Minh city and the weather made all the difference
Agree with this notion entirely. HCM over Hanoi any day. Hanoi is cool for a quick visit but not much more. Not worth being there unless you’re a resident so paying low taxes. So many other cities offer all the same without the high cost of food and accommodation. True there is some unique stuff. HK felt very depressing the last time I was there, like it changed after China took over. Also nothing was open late, which felt very out of place for Asia Beautiful scenery in the mountains and some compelling sites, but it was very isolating, the streets were fume-choked, and the food was terrible. I honestly loved Sri Lanka. Super diverse for such a small island. And I’ve found the food to be quite nice as well. I agree on the pollution though. Japan just wasn’t really a pleasant place to stay. The people there are so cold, lots of staring, and just being uncomfortable in public. Being turned away at restaurants, ignored by employees, hostility towards anyone who’s not Japanese. Cool sites to visit etc, but tbh just not a fun or cool place to be. Yellowstone national park, unfortunately. The tourists were too scary. Walking by animals, going on restricted areas with boiling hot water out there that could melt their skin off, SO MANY PEOPLE. We planned two weeks there camping and left after like 5 days because it was just too stressful!
I’ve never been a digital nomad, but I’ve still lived in or visited a good number of places. The vast majority, I’ve loved. A few were “meh.” A tiny handful, I liked or hated. The Jewish memorial in Berlin was so grey and bleak. I didn’t like the food.
