My (Canadian) parents told me, as long as I’m actively studying, or have a job and am saving for a place I can live with them as long as needed. I’m not in America but in Europe. While I haven’t heard of anyones parents kicking them out, most people voluntarily prefer to leave quite early to enjoy more freedom, like have friends over until late hours. Sometimes parents even help with rent. That said there is a cultural expectation that you are an adult at 18. This manifests sometimes into kids moving out at that age, whether it be to college or starting their own lives and livelihood.
