I have a co-worker who is 30, lives with his parents rent free, and has probably at least 200K saved. Meanwhile I have 3K in savings. 1 in 6 probably live with their parents and have a full time job. An average of 50k a year can achieve 100k in 2 years with zero expenses. A couple more years after that if you factor in taxes. Average worker contributes 7.4% of salary to their 401k. This isn’t “1 in 6 have 100k in their checking and savings”, it’s 1 in 6 have 100k total saved. Lol if you think 50k salary = 100k in savings in two years even with 0 expenses. You’re completely ignoring taxes How do you only make 50k a year If you are able to live with 0 expenses? I would guess daddy would give you a better paying job along with his black card. I have two Elder Millennials (near 40 years old) with well over $100K in their retirement accounts. Both are college educated and live well below their means. I hope they are not talking about cash only. If you count you car, your house resell value after loan, retirement plan, you should have about that at 40yo. I obviously have noway near that in cash as most my friends, but my house has taken a lot in value in last 10y so after loan and resell I’d probably have that ammount available. Not counting retirement plan has it is obligatory here. As a millennial that owns a home and has >$100k in savings, I’m calling bullshit on this one. Saving over $100,000 dollars from saving and frugal spending is realistic. lol only mileninals I know with that kind of money either got it from parents dying and getting inheritance or they were disabled in an accident and won a lawsuit that barley keeps them surviving as it pays out slowly. No middle ground. No mileninal ever got paid/saved that much that didn’t all go to rent and living expenses already so WTF are they talking about? Maybe Mileninals in alternative universes but not this one.
