Some people have amassed enough wealth so that a high salary is no longer necessary. They may not be able to retire but do not feel the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this pressure to seek out the highest paid job. Also many european cultures do not like to show off with brands and unnecessary luxury items. Living comfortably, ethically and demonstrating social responsibility is more highly prized than mere wealth. I moved to Korea from London England in 2017 and although the salary is lower so are the living expenses compared to London. The healthcare is amazing and so is the culture so it’s honestly a win win Even if I earned more money all the extra money just went different variable costs and fixed costs. The amount of money I am left with was actually less. So I was actually able to save a lot of money while living in Seoul.
Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt: Embrace Your Uniqueness
The only thing is for the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this future, I see Toronto as a place to further advance my career. Seoul I feel like I can easily hit a ceiling because I’m a foreigner and don’t have a mastery of the Korean language. I’m not one of these people, but it’s not hard to see why. Western inflation is out of control right now and largely mitigates the higher salaries. Also, just because you can get a job in your home country doesn’t mean it will be in a good location. SK is small and very travelable and all the jobs are concentrated in big cities while not all people who are doing a job can land a job in a good city. Public transportation is good in SK and terrible in America at least. Also, there’s cultural preferences and some people are enamored with kpop/drama and have a crush on the korean aesthetic, so would prefer to date there.
The quality of life in Seoul is much higher than many U.S. cities, if you like the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this city lifestyle. I love being able to walk everywhere and live in mixed zoning, unlike the suburbs and car-centric US. I just got back from a 2 week trip to Seoul a few months ago and I gotta say it had me rethinking my entire life. The biggest thing for me was safety. I have an anxiety problem and the time I spent in Seoul was so refreshing. Not once did I really feel any significant concern for my well being. This was a level of peace I didn’t know I could even achieve. It was very nice. I don’t live in Korea, but my friends love they can take public transportation without being harassed at any time of day. Korean girls. Nah I’m joking, but it’s a lifestyle thing I believe. Living among a different culture is bigger than making more money. Money isn’t everything.

How I can buy this Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt
Health insurance, lifestyle, cost of living, public transportation. I need a surgery that would cost me $45,000 in the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this US, but is only going to cost maybe $6,000 in Korea. Even taking my cat to the vet is 3-4x more expensive in the US. Getting “paid more” doesn’t mean shit if your rent is 50% of your paycheck, and student loans are another 20%. Here I may get paid less, but I have more savings than what I could gather in the states for the same time. Well I am here for the cash, I get paid more. As a teacher I would earn max in London this year 60,000 USD (at today’s fx rate), where as in Korea I get just about 100,000 USD in 2023 (both pre tax), with lower taxes better healthcare/roads etc and free accommodation that would cost me a fortune in London, and UK 4x electricity cost. The only small downside is the teachers pension, but watered down in UK at 1/80th a year when I left. And way less stress and no ofsted. Also low crime is great. living here I’m already off the radar for most bad actors not worth the time or money to extort me they already know we aren’t paid well
Feel like everyone already hit the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this nail on the head about lifestyle > money. Another thing I can think of is safety. Whenever I visit Korea or even Japan for that matter, its a great but sad feeling when I don’t have to worry about the chances of a mass shooting happening when I’m at a crowded event. The amount of shootings we have here in the US makes some of us paranoid of going to crowded places. I’m sure not everyone is like that but it is definitely a factor for others. Do people actually do that? The only westerners I’ve met don’t do jobs in Korea that demand high salaries in the US. Korea is like one of those subs about a non English country where no threads ever go in full korean. None of yall Korean eh It’s similar to people leaving high salary careers to pursue something else. Careers that pay well, or countries that pay well, may not make some people happy and they are willing to “pay” for a new career/location/experience through a pay cut.
Some people don’t make as much outside Korea, so it would net out with thr potentially lower CoL moving to Korea Not everyone in the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this states are in tech or finance making high salaries. In this case, it would be a much more painful compensation sacrifice for sure. LATAM is insecure, S. Korea is not. My expensive private education can help me afford a VISA and an income about double what I would do back home, good and cheap national insurance, cheap rent and a high quality of life Because to some foreigners, living in Korea means a huge increase in QoL. They may earn less, but they can get much more out of their money. There’s also the fact that healthcare is often better, cities are safer and cleaner. There are many reasons why people want to move the Korea and money is not always the main factor.
I got offered a job in America over a year ago. I was planning on leaving and continuing in my field where I have a master’s and experience. Korea was supposed to be initially an experience I wanted as I went back to graduate school. But then I did some math. Like a lot of people said, there is a lifestyle element, but I need to emphasize that the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this take home money hardly changes if you make less than 65K USD and plan to live alone. The place I live at now is about 800,000 won. I live by myself. When searching, apartments back in Arizona (where I grew up) ranged from 1,600-2,100 USD for a 1 bedroom. So, at least double on the rent. In the field I work in, it is likely I would need a car because I would be seeing clients. That’s about 250-350 dollars a month if I am lucky on financing and anywhere from 150-200 in car insurance, whereas it’s only about 60,000 won a month for me here to use transportation for work and leisure. Gas used to be about 40 bucks a fill for me, but from reports from home, it was climbing to 50-60 bucks. And I had to refill weekly. Food prices have sky rocketed as well. 300 a month worked fine with me before. Not sure of the exact figure now. Then we have insurance. Man, I didn’t go to the doctor much, but I was being zapped of 300 a month on average. I only went to a specialized doctor 3 times a year, and that was 40 bucks each time. Compared to paying 5-25 bucks here for OVERALL service AND meds.
So, to compare. A generous minimum estimate of about $2700 a month for basic living essentials would be needed for me to live in the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this US as compared to about 1,800,000 Won for living essentials here. I live in a pretty nice area in an apartment I love, but I know I could get paid more back at home. However, the difference isn’t enough for me, which ultimately leaves me to lifestyle and comfort. Overall, I am more comfortable with a transit centered way of living that utilizes cheaper healthcare and conveniences that you can only find in big, expensive urban areas in the US. The pay gap isn’t big enough to inspire me to be more uncomfortable. Maybe that will change in the future, but I am cool and happy where I am now. I’d make the move purely for medical reasons as my wife is type 1 diabetic if I can work at a US company that has a branch in Korea. I refuse to work for any korean company and work with the toxic work environment. My only concern right now is as a korean born male who gave up his korean citizenship when immigrating to the US, the government is still demanding that I fulfill my mandatory service (fuck that). I’d take the pay cut for a better quality of life
I pretty much agree, there are some exceptions. Most oreigners would need some kind of pretty good reason to justify coming to Korea. For the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this young English teachers it’s just for an adventure and putting off getting a real job. In my situation, we came because my wife is Korean and we have two young kids who now speak Korean perfectly and got to see halmoni and hallabeoji whenever. If not for the help with Korean language, the visa from being married (and free housing in our situation) it would not make sense to come here in my opinion. I want to move back to Korea after being stationed there. I own a car in America but I rather take public transportation, plus eating out is a bit cheaper in Korea. I’d probably choose Gwangju or Daegu though.
Most people aren’t flexers like many Asian countries Americans tend to not care about money as long as they are happy. As long as we have a roof enough for food and enough for trips every once in awhile we happy. We aren’t worried about buying rolexes or having fancy cars or having top brand clothes. Like many other already told you. I value money not that high. Sure, especially in Germany after my bachelor I could easily get 65k+ starting at a company. But “city” life here is boring, overall life quality is pretty bad in my opinion, accommodation is way cheaper in Korea, especially me not going to live in Seoul in the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this first time and so on. I don’t need to earn much money to have a good life. And also huge point is subway, bus and so on, the amount I have to pay here for my car is insane comparable to the convenient system in Korea. And, sadly, safety is also a huge plus. Sounds insane, but Germany is way unsafer than it was 10 years ago..
I think it’s looking relative to the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this average cost of living. If you are someone living in San Fran with a 100k salary you live pay check to paycheck, but if you are in the Midwest or somewhere more rural with an 80k you would have a much higher standard of living So some companies are offering US workers competitive US market pay to take on jobs in Korea. This is probably the vast minority but I’ve been offered a job that had competitive market rates to the US. Of course I would need to move out to Korea and be there for some time (at least). For someone that’s single, a married couple, or even married with kids, this sort of situation provides a lot of different and unique opportunities. If I were single/younger or if i was married and had kids (cultural immersion), I’d seriously consider the move. There are better countries than Korea but incomes in Korea are higher than in other less developed countries because koreans spending more on goods, services, housing which grow the economy to be more better and competitive. Also Korean infrastructure is better than in less developed countries. The education is better because high competition create a competitive educational market. Safety is important factor sometimes it is stressful to live in dangerous conditions, environment. Clean roads, public transportation, infrastructure is a luxury in less developed countries. I know that Koreans pay more taxes for this kind of services but it really makes life more comfortable. The issues is salaries for local people because it affects their wellbeing.
So I make more in America but my money went further in Korea. I made about 60k a yr in Korea. In America 100k but after you factor every cost etc its about the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this same I did make less money than I would have in my home country, but I’m from California and everything else is way more expensive. Housing, insurance, food, a car, the list goes on. Quality of life as a foreigner in Korea is much better and easier to maintain, in my opinion. I made less, but I was able to save much more. With teaching English, 10 or 15 years ago, I could see the logic. But coming to Korea to teach for anything other than an extended holiday in your 20s seems like a terrible idea in 2024. What I want to say is that looking at this post Yeah this post has been removed by moderator, I don’t know why.
But if you could see that posting, many many foreigners do other job than just English teacher, and they are making quite a lot of money. I guess you don’t have to worry about that. There are a number of Korean people living in a cheaper area (like Southeast Asia) for less pay but a subjectively more comfortable life. USA has no support compared to a civilized Asian country I can take a train get healthcare nearly free and eat good food and cheap no rent One reason could be that other countries might be out of “reach” for those ppl. Yknow visa issues, having a diaspora and etc I know lots of people have replied to this post already but I would like to add my opinion. I think it all boils down to cost of living and value in life. Even though they are getting paid less, they’re getting more for the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this money that they’re earning. Also even though Korea has many, many social issues, it’s safer, more convenient, and has more opportunities for foreigners living there. I know for a Korean it might be hard to grasp that even though countries might be seen as “richer” are truly not even that rich. I live in America for example and my non-American friends always wonder why I want to leave. My answer always boils down to “I’m not happy here, it’s too expensive, and it’s dangerous.” I love America, this is the only place I have ever lived but the older I get the more I realize the “America dream” does not exist anymore. Every country has problems. There isn’t a place in the whole world that is perfect. But speaking for a lot of Americans here, we want out. For plentiful of reasons. I think the reason is the same for anyone in the world who wants to migrate to anywhere else besides where they come from. A better value of life. A better cost of living. A new experience. A reset of life and overall mindset. I don’t live in Korea but I know so many people who have moved there and it’s simply because they are happier. More fulfilled. They are also very open about the struggles of being in Korea too but at the end of the day none of the negatives outweigh the positives for them. I also think Korea is such a hotspot now for immigration because Korean government is overall very welcoming to the idea of tourism and immigration. I work with elderly people and almost all of them have grandchildren, nieces, nephews etc. who have either done an exchange in Korea, went on a government funded trip to Korea, did internships in Korea, or have moved permanently to Korea. Koreas government is pushing immigration and in my opinion it’s both a good and a bad thing. I think they’re doing this to raise birth rates, become less of a homogeneous society, develop businesses more, expand Korea more so the countryside stops dying etc. while all of those can be seen as good things this also contributes to loss of culture, becoming more whitewashed, small businesses being pushed out of places at a faster rate then they already are, and unfortunately, eventually cost of living becoming worse than it already is. So, all in all, foreigners are coming to Korea for a plethora of reasons. But I think once immigration starts to really settle in Korea you’ll start to see people leaving once things become more difficult for them to progress further.
I am kind of comfortable in my job. I don’t get paid very much, and I do stress about money a lot in my life, but there is something to be said for a job where everyone is happy to see you every day. After bouncing around from place to place for a while I found a place where I trust my boss and I think things are run competently. I earn the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this same money in Korea as I would in the US with similar costs (my costs may be higher here than they would be in the US, but it’s hard to compare). In comparison the the US Jeju has jobs at the international schools that pay way more than the US would. The cost of living is lower if you don’t just eat American food. And culturally Korea is very cool and frankly overly tolerant of Americans Pretty much already answered, but sticking to money, keep in mind: money made does not equal money kept or money free to spend.
English teacher salary is roughly only 33% more than the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this poverty line in the USA, but being smart with money, I was saving half my salary. According to rough results I found googling, after 5 years, I had way more savings than many Americans would have had in more than 5 years. For me, I just love the people. Back home in the US, it’s nothing but crackheads and drug addicts polluting the streets. My experience in Korea is that the people are so polite and civilized, and just generally a pleasure to be around. Plus, I love dressing nicely and I can wear the things I like there. Whereas people dress like trash here in the US, and if I dress nicely and walk outside, I get harassed by crackheads and poors. Lived in SK for 3 years. Life was much easier and simpler in Korea. Nuff said. Your country hosted me with the utmost class and I miss it every day.
It’s mostly yellow fever and wanting to feel special. Back home most are just normal and don’t stand out. In Korea, they stand out by simply existing. OP one consideration to have is whether the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this move is permanent or temporary. I would guess most are temporary and the biggest factor would be a sense of adventure. Why do korean college kids do work-study programs overseas flipping burgers in the summers or taking a year off when they can intern at a korean company? It’s not a perfect comparison but both sides are looking at benefits other than dollar per hour but both are not permanent. “As a American, I can’t understand why foreigners who can get paid more in their home countries would come to the USA and get a job that gives them less money.” There’s almost no financial reason to work in Korea if you’re an American citizen with marketable skills. For example, I’m mid-30’s with a BA from an average university and work at a large American firm. Gross pay is about $200K and I save $80K of that per year after taxes and living expenses are paid. Someone in my profession wouldn’t even gross $80K in Korea.
This isn’t a hard rule, but I noticed that foreigners that teach English in Korea tend to either (1) have non-financial incentives, such as fans of Korean culture, or (2) don’t have marketable skills and can’t get good jobs at home. I find that foreign women tend to fall into #1 and men tend to fall into #2. There’s even an acronym, “LBH” losers back home, that describes #2 perfectly. I think this applies to most foreigners, but not all. There are definitely high ranking executives poached by Hyundai, Kia, etc and offered extremely high pay. But this is a small minority. Majority are like you said #2 and have no degree or a worthless degree. I got the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this answer for you… cause theyre losers in their own country I am american.. so i see this all the time. Thats the non politically correct answer. Korea pays a lot, in fact I want to go back to Korea since I can earn at least 100k and everything is cheap and basically no taxes. Side bonus is that because of my bachelor’s in Kaist I felt very valuable, no one cares about it outside Korea
Life style I guess. I have a friend who earned equal salary here in Canada and Korea, he chose to live in Seoul. One thing I cannot stand is driving and parking in Seoul Looks like most of the Autism Mom Only Because Full Time Multi-Tasking Ninja Is Not An Actual Job Title Shirt But I will love this comments are from Canadian/American perspectives, a lot who live in Seoul. I’d like to make a comment about foreign workers from SEA, who often toil in rural areas. I remember a few months ago hearing about this proposed bill the bill would allow employers to pay foreign workers the KRW equivalent of their home country wages, drastically reducing their already slim pay. Nominally to ease the burden on childcare expenses but in reality another way that factories and farms can exploit labor from SEA.
