The original script is so amazing, I was sad that they changed the All I Want For Christmas Is You Washington Capitals Ice Hockey Ugly Christmas 2023 shirt and I will buy this ending. It’s worth tracking down and reading. Malkovich is so fucking good in this movie that when he’s being controlled by John Cusack, in my mind I’m giving all credit to the performance to Cusack for controlling Malkovich’s body so well. And in Adaptation, the other Jonze/Kaufman flick. I’ve never forgotten Nicolas Cage was the actor in the movie before. Adaption, he did that with two characters. I wish that team kept together. Kaufman isn’t a bad director, but I really wish he did 2/3 more movies with Jonze. Or Gondry even. I recommend reading the original draft script. It’s like three times as long and includes aliens / demons taking over the city or something. Hard to remember the details. It’s quite mad. I read it myself years ago and vaguely recall the original ending involved Malkovich actually being satan and riding through the city on a hovering, flaming throne whilst the people cowered and prostrated at his feet. yeah, you’re right. I seem to remember flying demons. it’s so insane it’s probably impossible to remember accurately. Was this maybe done on purpose by Kaufman to overwhelm potential producers with inanity so that the final (still bizarre) script would end up looking relatively tame?
